Hungarian Paprika Sour Cream Pork Chops image

An easy and delicious Hungarian paprika sour cream pork chops recipe using traditional Hungarian sweet paprika... These tender and juicy pork chops smothered in a spicy sour cream sauce are sure to be a new family favorite!

Provided by Tara Kuczykowski

Categories     Main Dishes

Time 35m

Number Of Ingredients 13

6 pork chops
salt and pepper
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
2 tablespoons butter
2 medium onions, sliced
3 garlic cloves
1 bay leaf
1 cup chicken broth
1 1/2 tablespoons Hungarian sweet paprika
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup water
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
3/4 cup sour cream

Steps:

  • Season pork chops on both sides with salt and pepper. Drizzle the olive oil in a large skillet set over medium-high heat. Brown pork chops on both sides, then remove the browned chops to a plate.
  • Add the butter to the skillet and sauté the onion slices over medium heat until translucent. Add the garlic and sauté for about one additional minute. Then add the broth to the skillet and use a wooden spatula to scrape up any brown bits from the bottom.
  • Add the bay leaf, paprika, and salt to the onion mixture, and then place pork chops back in the skillet. Cover tightly, and reduce the heat. Simmer over low heat for about 20 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 145 degrees F.
  • Remove the chops to a plate again and cover with aluminum foil. Remove the bay leaf from the remaining hot liquid.
  • Whisk the flour and water together well, and pour them into the broth mixture. Heat the sauce to boiling, whisking constantly. Allow to reduce and thicken. Remove the skillet from the heat and let cool slightly. Stir the sour cream into the gravy mixture and return the pork chops to the sour cream sauce.

BASIC PAPRIKA PORK CHOPS

Basic Paprika Pork Chops image

A bit of paprika gives pork chops a real kick of flavor with almost no effort. It's the perfect dish for easy weeknight cooking.

Provided by Molly Watson

Categories     Entree     Dinner

Time 15m

Yield 4

Number Of Ingredients 5

4 pork chops
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon fine sea salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
2 tablespoons vegetable or canola oil

Steps:

  • Pat the pork chops thoroughly dry with paper towels.
  • In a small bowl combine the paprika, salt, and pepper.
  • Sprinkle both sides of all the pork chops evenly with the spice mixture. Set aside the chops while you prepare the pan.
  • Heat a large frying pan over medium-high heat. Once the surface of the pan is hot, add the oil and heat until the oil shimmers. Add the pork chops-they should make a bright sizzling sound immediately upon touching the pan; if they don't, take them out and let the pan and oil get a bit hotter. Reduce the heat to medium and cook the chops, undisturbed, until they're well browned and they release from the pan of their own accord, about 4 minutes. Turn and repeat on the other side.
  • Remove the chops from pan and let sit, covered loosely with foil, for about 10 minutes. Serve hot.
