Categories     Breads

Time 1h50m

Yield 1-2 crusts

Number Of Ingredients 6

3 1/2 cups white whole wheat flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon active dry yeast
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
1 1/2 cups warm water
1 teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, dissolve sugar in warm water. Sprinkle yeast over the top, and let stand for about 10 minutes, until foamy.
  • Stir the olive oil and salt into the yeast mixture, then mix in 2 cups of the whole wheat flour until dough starts to come together. Tip dough out onto a floured surface, and knead until all of the flour has been absorbed, and the ball of dough becomes smooth, about 10 minutes. Place dough in an oiled bowl, and turn to coat the surface. Cover loosely with a towel, and let stand in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  • When the dough is doubled, tip the dough out onto a lightly floured surface, and divide into 2 pieces for 2 thin crust, or leave whole to make one thick crust. Form into a tight ball. Let rise for about 45 minutes, until doubled.
  • Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). Roll a ball of dough with a rolling pin until it will not stretch any further. Then, drape it over both of your fists, and gently pull the edges outward, while rotating the crust. When the circle has reached the desired size, place on a well oiled pizza pan. Parbake for 5 minutes Remove from the oven and add toppings.
  • Bake for 16 to 20 minutes (depending on thickness) in the preheated oven, until the crust is crisp and golden at the edges, and toppings are done.

PIZZA DOUGH HALF WHITE/HALF WHOLE WHEAT (CPK)

Pizza Dough Half White/Half Whole Wheat (Cpk) image

Make and share this Pizza Dough Half White/Half Whole Wheat (Cpk) recipe from Food.com.

Provided by TaterBug

Categories     Breads

Time 35m

Yield 16 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 teaspoons yeast (105F to 115F) or 1 1/2 cup warm water (105F to 115F)
2 cups white bread flour
2 cups whole wheat flour
4 teaspoons sugar
2 teaspoons salt
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

Steps:

  • Dissolve yeast in the water and set aside for 5 to 10 minutes. Do not get water above 115, it will kill the yeast and the dough will not rise. Also, I use filtered or bottled water because the chlorine in tap water can also kill the yeast.
  • Place dry ingredients in large mixing bowl, make a well in the middle and pour in the liquids, reserving a teaspoon of olive oil.
  • Use a wooden spoon to combine the ingredients. Once the intial mixing is done, you can oil your hands and begin kneading the dough.
  • Knead dough for about 5 minutes or until dough is smooth and no longer sticky.
  • Lightly oil a bowl and put dough in bowl, wrap cover of bowl with plastic wrap and let dough rise for 2 hours. It should double in size.
  • The dough can now be used but will be much tastier if you let it sit in the fridge over night wrapped in plastic.
  • After removing it from the fridge, let the dough come to room temperature. Knock it down to get the extra air out and either roll out or stretch by hand, whatever you prefer. Thick or thin according to your tastes.
  • Preheat pizza sone to 450-500 for 1 hour.
  • Top pizza as you like and bake 8-10 minutes or until bubbly and golden brown or according to your individual pizza recipe.

HEALTHIER ALTERNATIVE WHOLE WHEAT PIZZA CRUST

Healthier Alternative Whole Wheat Pizza Crust image

I have been trying to remove the "white" in my diet as much as possible but its hard when most "healthier" foods are 2xs more expensive, I just dont get that. In my transition I needed to adjust our regular quick dinner of pizza into something I have to make on my own. I started with a basic recipe and started tweeking from there. I think that this is the final draft and I am pretty satisfied on how this crust has turned out. Try it you may like it.

DOES WHOLE FOODS' REFRIGERATED PIZZA DOUGH MAKE THE CUT?
The toppings are a big part of how a pizza tastes, but if the crust is a bad consistency it can ruin a good pie. Thankfully, this crust performed well: after about 10 minutes in a 500 F oven on a pizza stone, the crust had puffed up quite a bit. The bottom was nicely browned and the inside was chewy and elastic.
