A healthy and easy recipe for infants and toddlers. Oats, bananas and coconut oil combine with optional spices to make a yummy and cheaper alternative to commercial teether wafers. This recipe was adapted from Healthy Homemade Teething Biscuits by Super Healthy Kids.

Provided by Becky's Best Bites

Time 30m

Yield 28-30

Number Of Ingredients 6

4 cups quick cooking or old fashioned oats
2 medium bananas, very ripe
4-5 tbsp. coconut oil, melted (I needed 5)
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cinnamon

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Line a baking sheet with either parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Set aside.
  • Place oats in the bowl of a food processor or high speed blender and pulse until they become oat flour.
  • Peel bananas and add in small chunks to the food processor.
  • Add coconut oil (start with 4 tbsp.), vanilla, nutmeg and cinnamon (if using) and pulse until a thick dough forms. If the dough is too dry or crumbly, add the additional 1 tbsp. of coconut oil.
  • Scoop out an approximately 1 inch portion of the dough and form into a rectangular (wafer) shape with rounded edges that is about ¼ inch thick and place on the baking sheet.
  • Complete the previous step until you have used up all of the dough.
  • Place in the preheated oven for 10 minutes.
  • Flip all of the biscuits and cook for an additional 5-10 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Cool completely.
  • Store in airtight container for up to a week or freeze for up to 3 months.

THE BEST WHOLE WHEAT BISCUITS

The Best Whole Wheat Biscuits image

This homemade whole-wheat biscuit recipe is so quick and easy-plus it has only 5 ingredients! Make sure to bake a double batch to freeze for later and pull out for breakfast or dinner. They go great with homemade gravy or even jam.

Provided by Lisa Leake

Categories     Breakfast     Holiday     Lunch     Snacks & Appetizers

Time 25m

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 cups whole-wheat flour (or whole-wheat pastry flour)
4 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
4 tablespoons butter (cold, unsalted)
1 cup milk (any kind)

Steps:

  • In a medium sized bowl combine the dry ingredients. Mix well with whisk or fork.
  • Cut the ½ stick butter into little pea sized pieces and then mix the pieces into the flour mixture.
  • Using a fork or pastry blender, try to mash the butter pieces as you mix it together with the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. It is okay if the outcome just looks like the same pea sized pieces of butter covered with flour.
  • Then pour in the milk and mix it all together. Knead the dough with your hands 8 to 10 times (for best results do not over-knead the dough) and then turn out onto a floured surface (like a counter or cutting board).
  • Pat it out flat with your hands until the dough is a somewhat even ¾-inch thickness (sprinkle with a little flour if necessary).
  • Turn a drinking glass upside down and cut out biscuit rounds. I have also used shaped cookie cutters (like a heart or star) if you have little ones helping you!
  • Then place biscuits on an ungreased baking sheet or in a cast iron skillet and bake at 450 degrees for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. Enjoy!

TEETHING BISCUITS FOR BABY

Teething Biscuits for Baby image

Make and share this Teething Biscuits for Baby recipe from Food.com.

Provided by Olha7397

Categories     Lunch/Snacks

Time 20m

Yield 45 biscuits

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 egg
1 tablespoon honey or 1 tablespoon maple syrup
2 tablespoons sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon soy flour
1 tablespoon wheat germ
1 tablespoon instant nonfat dry milk powder
1 cup whole wheat flour, more if needed

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F and use ungreased cookie sheets.
  • Put the egg in a large mixing bowl and beat well. Add the honey and sugar and blend. Add the salt, soy flour, wheat germ, dry milk, and whole wheat flour and mix thoroughly. Dust a working surface and your rolling pin with whole wheat flour, and have some extra handy. Roll the dough into a rectangle about 9 by 12 inches, and about 1/4 inch thick. Sprinkle the dough with a little whole wheat flour if it is sticky, lifting and moving the dough as you are rolling it out so it won't stick to the surface.
  • Trim the edges neatly and cut the dough into strips 1 inch wide by 2 1/2 inches long. Place the biscuits on the cookie sheets about 1/2 inch apart.
  • Bake for 7 minutes or until colored on the bottom. Turn them over, using a spatula, and continue to bake for about 4 more minutes. Remove from the oven and cool on racks. Store in an airtight container or wrap well and freeze. Do not give under a year old if you are worried about honey or your child having allergies to milk.

GRAIN-FREE TEETHING BISCUITS

Grain-Free Teething Biscuits image

When I create a new recipe for my kiddos, I love to pack in as much nutrition as possible. This means more ingredients, but it also means more nutrients. These teething biscuits pack a lot of nutrient-dense foods!

Provided by Kate

Categories     Baby & Kid Food

Number Of Ingredients 14

1 1/2 cups Otto's Cassava Flour
1/2 cup coconut flour
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp sea salt
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 cup apple sauce
2/3 cup water
2 Tbsp real maple syrup
3 Tbsp coconut oil
3 Tbsp unsulfured molasses
2 egg yolks
1 tsp vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 300°F.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine dry ingredients and whisk until combined (my daughter was helping whip these up and she snuck apple sauce in with the dry ingredients).
  • In another bowl combine the wet ingredients and stir until combined.
  • Add wet ingredients into the bowl with dry ingredients and stir to combine, it will be crumbly.
  • Then (take off your wedding ring) mix the dough with your hands until it sticks together.
  • Shape dough into small biscuits (like a large date).
  • Place the biscuits onto a Silpat lined baking sheet and bake for 50-60 minutes, or until very firm. You want your teething cookies to be completely hard and dried out so that they do not break off easily in the baby's mouth.
  • Allow to cool (they will crack a little bit).
  • Store in the freezer for a nice cool teething biscuit.
  • They last for months in the freezer.
