This simple pulled pork recipe for your slow cooker doesn't include any highly processed ingredients like refined brown sugar, corn syrup, or ketchup. Make this for your next outdoor bbq or cookout!

Provided by Lisa Leake

Categories     Dinner

Time 7h5m

Number Of Ingredients 11

3 tablespoons paprika
1 tablespoon kosher salt
2 teaspoons pepper
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon thyme (dried)
½ cup honey
¼ cup red wine vinegar
3 tablespoons olive oil
1 onion (peeled and cut in half)
3-5 pounds pork shoulder (cut in half)

Steps:

  • In a medium size mixing bowl, mix together the first six ingredients (all of the spices) with a fork.
  • Pour in the honey, vinegar, and olive oil and stir to form a paste.
  • Place the onion in the bottom of the slow cooker. Top it with the 2 pieces of pork and then pour the honey paste over all sides of the pork pieces. It's okay if some of it (or a lot of it) just drips down to the bottom.
  • Turn the slow cooker on to low and cook for 7 to 8 hours or until the meat is tender enough to be easily shredded with a fork.
  • Serve the shredded pork warm with fixings like homemade coleslaw and cornbread. My husband also likes his dipped in a little hot sauce. Refrigerate or freeze the leftovers.

SLOW-COOKER PULLED PORK WITH FRIED SHALLOTS AND CHILES

Slow-Cooker Pulled Pork with Fried Shallots and Chiles image

Provided by Valerie Bertinelli

Categories     main-dish

Time 6h45m

Yield 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 21

3 pounds pork shoulder, cut into 2-inch pieces
1 cup barbecue sauce
3 tablespoons light brown sugar
2 teaspoons chili powder
1 teaspoon chipotle powder
6 ounces light lager beer, optional
3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar, plus a splash
Kosher salt
1 medium onion, thinly sliced
3 scallions, chopped
Vegetable oil, for frying
2 egg whites
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon ground cumin
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
4 Fresno chiles, sliced crosswise into rings
4 large shallots, sliced crosswise into rings
Celery salt, for seasoning
12 slices white sandwich bread
Bread-and-butter pickles, for serving

Steps:

  • For the pulled pork: Combine the pork, barbecue sauce, brown sugar, chili powder, chipotle powder, lager, 3 tablespoons vinegar, 2 teaspoons salt and the onions in a 6-quart slow cooker. Cook on high power for 6 hours.
  • With a slotted spoon, transfer the pork to a cutting board and shred using two forks. Transfer to a bowl and add enough of the liquid from the slow cooker to generously moisten. Stir in the scallions and a splash of vinegar and season with salt to taste.
  • For the fried shallots and chiles: Set a cooling rack over a baking sheet and set aside. Add enough oil to a medium saucepan to fill by 2 inches. Over medium heat, bring the oil to 340 degrees F. Meanwhile, put the egg whites in a medium bowl and whisk with a fork until frothy. In a separate bowl, combine the flour with the chili powder, cumin and some salt and pepper. In batches, add the chiles and shallots to the bowl of egg whites and toss to coat. Remove from the egg whites, allowing excess liquid to drain off, then place into the flour. Put the coated chiles and shallots onto the prepared cooling rack. Fry in batches until golden brown, about 2 minutes. Remove to a paper-towel-lined baking sheet and sprinkle with celery salt.
  • Serve the pulled pork topped with fried shallots and chiles, or assemble into sandwiches:
  • Add the pulled pork to 6 slices of bread, then top with fried chiles and shallots, pickles and the remaining 6 slices bread.

BBQ PORK TENDERLOIN IN THE CROCK POT

BBQ Pork Tenderloin in the Crock Pot image

This easy Crockpot BBQ Pulled Pork recipe only needs a few simple ingredients, with practically no prep!

Provided by Melissa Griffiths - Bless this Mess

Categories     Dinner

Time 4h10m

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 pork tenderloin (1.2 to 2 pounds)
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1 cup chicken broth or water
1 cup BBQ sauce (store bought or homemade)

Steps:

  • Remove the pork tenderloin from the package, and place it on a cutting board.

  • Rub your spice mixture all over the tenderloin, and then place it in the bottom of your slow cooker.
  • Add the water or chicken stock to the bottom of the slow cooker (don't pour it over the pork, though, so that you don't wash off your spice rub).
  • Add the lid and cook on high for 4-5 hours, or until the tenderloin is easy to shred with a fork.
  • Remove the pork from the crock pot, and shred with 2 forks. Return it to the slow cooker, and mix it with any liquid that might have remained in the bottom of the slow cooker.
  • Add your BBQ sauce, and stir to combine. Adjust salt and BBQ amounts to your liking, serve warm.

PULLED PORK (CROCK POT)

Pulled Pork (Crock Pot) image

I found this pulled pork recipe years ago, and it's a favorite at potlucks. Freezes well for easy quick meals.

Provided by duonyte

Categories     Pork

Time 18h30m

Yield 10 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

4 lbs pork roast (shoulder or butt)
2 large onions
1 cup ginger ale
1 (18 ounce) bottle favorite barbecue sauce (I like Sweet Baby Ray's)
barbecue sauce, for serving (optional)

Steps:

  • Slice one onion and place in crock pot.
  • Put in the roast and cover with the other onion, sliced. Pour over the ginger ale. Cover and cook on LOW for about 12 hours. See Note2 below regarding amount of time needed!
  • Remove the meat, strain and save the onions, discard all liquid. With two forks, shred the meat, discarding any remaining fat, bones or skin. Most of the fat will have melted away.
  • Return the shredded meat and the onions to the crock pot, stir in the barbecue sauce. Continue to cook for another 4 to 6 hours on LOW.
  • Serve with hamburger buns or rolls and additional barbecue sauce. Any leftovers freeze very well.
  • TIP: freeze ready-made sandwiches - a scoop of meat on a bun, well-wrapped. These make a great quick meal or snack. To reheat, remove wrapping, wrap in a paper towel, and zap 1-2 minute in the microwave.
  • Note: Shoulder or butt are recommended because the meat shreds very well. Other cuts do not shred as readily. It is a fattier cut, but the fat melts away in the cooking and is poured away when you discard the liquid.
  • Note 2: I have an older, smaller crock pot. The above times work perfectly for me. But if you have a newer or bigger crock pot, you may need to revise times downward, esp. after the bbq sauce is added. I think you need at least a couple of hours for it all to meld, but that may be all you need. Update: I recently bought a bigger crockpot, I think 5 or 6 qts. I cooked a 6 lb pork shoulder in it for 8 hours and it was shreddable at that point. Shredded, added the sauce, and cooked for another hour or so to meld everything. So use your best judgment on timing!
  • Note3: You might want to turn your roast over after it's cooked a while, to ensure more even cooking. I think this may depend on the size and shape of your roast and the size of your slow cooker. Remember that each time you remove the lid you lose heat and be careful, as turning a large piece of meat is awkward.
  • Note4: my sister says this takes 2 hours in the Instapot. I don't have one, up to you to figure out the steps.

SLOW COOKER PULLED PORK

Slow cooker pulled pork image

Succulent pulled pork spiced with paprika and cinnamon is oh-so simple when you make it in the slow cooker. Serve with fennel and apple slices in bread rolls

Provided by Miriam Nice

Categories     Dinner, Main course

Time 8h10m

Number Of Ingredients 18

2kg pork shoulder, skin removed
1 onion, sliced
2 tsp smoked paprika
½ tsp cinnamon
1 tbsp flour
2 tsp oil
4 garlic cloves, crushed
160ml cloudy apple juice
1 tbsp black treacle
2 tbsp honey
3 tbsp apple cider vinegar
50g onion marmalade
1 fennel bulb, sliced thinly
1 apple, sliced thinly
juice 1 lemon
8 - 10 bread rolls
English mustard
mayonnaise (optional)

Steps:

  • Put the onion slices at the bottom of the slow cooker. In a small bowl mix together 1 tbsp salt with 1 tsp ground black pepper, the smoked paprika and cinnamon. Put the flour onto a plate then rub the spice mixture over the pork.
  • Heat the oil in a large frying pan and roll the spiced pork in the flour before putting it into the pan to sear it on all sides. Once the meat is starting to pick up a golden colour pop it on top of the onion slices in the slow cooker.
  • In a large jug combine all the ingredients for slow cooking the pork then pour over the meat. Pop the lid on and cook on the low setting for 8 hours.
  • When you're ready to serve, take the meat out of the slow cooker leaving the cooking liquor behind. Put the cooked meat on a roasting tray or large shallow bowl and pull it into bite-size chunks and shred with 2 forks. Ladle a little of the cooking juices over the pork and mix together.
  • Toss the fennel and apple slices in the lemon juice and season well then serve along with the pulled pork in bread rolls. Spread the rolls with a little English mustard and mayonnaise if you like.

V'S EASY PULLED PORK SAMMY'S (CROCK-POT)

V's Easy Pulled Pork Sammy's (Crock-Pot) image

Sometimes I don't post recipes because I make them all the time and they seem so basic to me. Recently a friend asked if I would share my technique for my BBQ Pulled Pork Sammy! This is a little similar to some I've seen on Zaar, but instead of adding water to the pot, I dilute BBQ Sauce with water which adds even more BBQ Flavor to these sandwiches. Great for Tailgating or make and wrap them up, steam in the Microwave in the roll bag for 1 minute then quickly wrap them individually and sneak them into the football game ;) as well as camping!

Provided by Vseward Chef-V

Categories     One Dish Meal

Time 8h5m

Yield 12 sammys, 6-12 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

3 lbs pork shoulder butt roast (Bone in or not, doesn't matter)
1 (21 ounce) bottle barbecue sauce (your favorite- I use Hunt's Original)
0.5 (18 ounce) bottle bottle hickory smoke flavored barbecue sauce, divided
3/4 cup water
1 teaspoon garlic pepper seasoning
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon minced dried onion
1 teaspoon smoky paprika (Spanish)
12 sesame seed kaiser rolls

Steps:

  • Make several slices half way down the roast.- cut roast in half to make for even cooking.
  • Season with garlic pepper and salt on one side, place fat side up in crockpot and season other side. Sprinkle with dried onions and paprika (Note: smoky paprika adds to the flavor without adding heat).
  • Mix 1/4 cup BBQ sauce and 3/4 cup water in measuring cup. Pour into crockpot beside the roast, not over it.
  • Set on low (8 hours).
  • One hour before, drain excess liquid and shred right in the crockpot, I remove fat at this point. Pour Remaining BBQ sauce over the shredded pork and continue to cook another 45 min - 1 hour.
  • On a clean surface, place open rolls on counter and add pork by heaping spoonfuls onto rolls. Place rolls inside bread bag and twist to close. Microwave for 1 minute. Leave the rolls inside the bag for a few minutes. This steams the rolls. Either serve immediately or wrap indivually and sneak into the football games like we do . LOL.
  • ENJOY!

  • Trim off any large pieces of fat from the surface of the pork. Sprinkle the salt, sugar, and pepper evenly over all sides of the pork, then pat the seasonings into the meat. If not cooking immediately, place in a large bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate overnight.
  • When ready to cook, place the pork shoulder (and any accumulated juices if seasoned overnight) in a 6-quart or larger slow cooker. Pour the water, around, but not on top of, the pork. Scatter the garlic and onion around the pork.
  • Cover and cook on the LOW setting until the meat is tender and can be easily shredded, 10 to 12 hours. Transfer the pork to a clean cutting board or rimmed baking sheet. When it is cool enough to handle, use 2 forks or your fingers to shred the meat into bite-sized pieces. Discard the bone (if present) and any large pieces of fat.
  • Pour the cooking liquid through a fine-mesh strainer into a measuring cup or bowl and discard the solids. Skim the fat from the surface of the cooking liquid. Reserve the cooking liquid to keep leftovers moist. Transfer to a serving bowl if serving as-is. If serving as tacos or barbecue sandwiches, transfer back to the slow cooker for seasoning.
