Want the most perfect restaurant-style onion rings at home? This recipe for Vidalia Onion Rings will give you just that. They will turn out super crispy and crunchy, every single time.

Number Of Ingredients 15

3 large Vidalia onions
1 1/2 C buttermilk
2 to 3 TBLS Sriracha
2 C flour
1/2 C rice flour or cornstarch
1 1/2 TBLS kosher salt
1 TBLS black pepper
2 tsp paprika
2 tsp garlic powder
oil for frying
3/4 C mayo
2 TBLS ketchup
2 to 4 TBLS horseradish
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp paprika

Steps:

  • Start heating oil in a deep cast iron pan.
  • Cut the onions into 1/4″ to 1/2″ slices.
  • In a bowl, mix together the buttermilk and Sriracha. (Use more/less Sriracha depending on your liking).
  • Place onions in buttermilk mixture. Toss to separate and coat.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the flour, rice flour, kosher salt, black pepper, paprika and garlic powder.
  • Coat the onion rings with the flour mixture. Double dipping is encouraged.
  • Once the oil is to temperature (350° to 375°), fry onion rings in batches until they are browned and crispy on both sides. This should take only a few minutes.
  • While the onion rings are frying, combine all of the ingredients for the dipping sauce. Adjust the horseradish to your liking.
  • Lay the finished onion rings on paper towels or cooling rack.
  • Salt right out of the fry.
  • Serve immediately with the dipping sauce.
  • ENJOY!

Inspired by Paula Deen and posted on cheese-burger.net, this is a great way to use those sweet vidalia onions! I have not tried this yet, posting to try out.

2 lbs large vidalia onions, chopped small
1 medium red bell pepper, chopped small
2 celery ribs, chopped small
3/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup water
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon celery seed
1/4 teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • Its best to use a heavy bottomed skillet or Dutch Oven for this recipe. Melt the oil in the pan and toss in the Vidalia onion, bell pepper and celery stalks.
  • Saute the mixture over medium heat for about 20 minutes or until everything is tender, be careful not to let the onions brown.
  • Now add the vinegar, water, brown sugar, celery seeds and salt. Bring everything to a boil then turn down the heat and simmer for another 20 minutes.
  • Let the mixture cool then transfer it into jars and refrigerate overnight.

1 lb vidalia onion (or other sweet)
1 egg, beaten
1 cup half-and-half
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Slice and separate onions into rings.
  • Cover with water and boil for 1 minute.
  • Drain and put into a 8x8 baking dish.
  • Combine egg, cream, salt and pepper and pour over onions.
  • Top with cheese and sprinkle with paprika.
  • Bake for 25 minutes.
