1 medium tomato, diced
1 cup sliced radishes

Steps:

  • In a salad bowl, toss the first five ingredients. In a small bowl, whisk the remaining ingredients. Pour over salad and toss to coat.

Steps:

  • If using, make the Homemade Croutons.
  • Wash and chop the romaine. If necessary, wash the mixed greens. (You can use any mix of greens here; measure about 2 cups of greens per serving.)
  • Thinly slice the red onion. Thinly slice the green onion.
  • Peel and chop the cucumber.
  • Shred the carrot (we used this Handheld Julienne Shredder).
  • Thinly slice and half the radishes.
  • Choose and make the dressing (select from the dressing recipes above!).
  • Toss together the greens, red onion, green onion, cucumber, carrot, radishes, and pepperoncini. Top with sunflower seeds and croutons, and drizzle with dressing.

1 envelope Fleischmann's® Pizza Crust Yeast or RapidRise Yeast

¾ teaspoon salt
⅔ cup very warm water (120 degrees to 130 degrees F)*
3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
¼ teaspoon Spice Islands® Garlic Powder
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
¼ cup chopped onion
¼ cup chopped or thinly sliced carrots
4 cups chopped romaine lettuce
1 cup chopped fresh tomatoes or halved grape tomatoes
¼ cup prepared Italian salad dressing
¼ cup shredded Parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.
  • Combine 1 cup flour, undissolved yeast, sugar and salt in a large bowl. Add very warm water and oil; mix until well blended, about 1 minute.
  • Gradually add enough remaining flour to make a soft dough. Dough should form a ball and will be slightly sticky. Knead** on a floured surface, adding additional flour if necessary, until smooth and elastic, about 4 minutes. (If using RapidRise Yeast, let dough rest at this point for 10 minutes.)
  • Pat dough with floured hands to fill greased pizza pan or baking sheet. OR roll dough on a floured counter to 12-inch circle; place in greased pizza pan or baking sheet. Form a rim by pinching the edge of the dough.
  • Brush crust with 1 tablespoon olive oil and sprinkle with garlic powder. Combine mozzarella cheese, onions and carrots; spread over the crust.
  • Bake on lowest oven rack for 15 to 18 minutes, until cheese is bubbly and crust is browned. Remove from oven and let cool 2 to 3 minutes. While pizza is baking, toss together lettuce, tomatoes and Italian salad dressing. Spread over pizza and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. Serve immediately!

This Everyday Tossed Salad is an easy garden salad to pull together to serve as a starter or have as a light main. I've tossed this salad with a delicious light dressing made with avocado oil, lemon juice, turmeric, garlic, Dijon mustard and honey.

1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons avocado oil
3 tablespoons lemon juice
2 teaspoons pure clover honey
2 teaspoons turmeric powder
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
salt and freshly ground black pepper
1 large head Romaine lettuce, core removed, rinsed, dried and chopped (or 1/2 head Romaine and 2-4 cups mixed greens)
1 cup cooked corn, fresh or frozen (barely blanched so its crisp))
3/4 cup cherry tomatoes, sliced in half lengthwise
1 cup sliced cucumber (peeled and seeded if you prefer)
3/4 cup sliced radishes
3/4 cup cauliflower, grated on a box grater or finely chopped
1 avocado, peeled, remove seed and chop meat
1/2 cup raw sunflower seeds
1/2 cup golden raisins

Steps:

  • Rinse, spin and chop lettuce.
  • In a large bowl, combine the ingredients and gently toss to combine.
  • Drizzle 1/3 to 1/2 cup of the vinaigrette over the salad, then toss gently to coat the ingredients with the dressing.
  • Taste for seasoning and add more vinaigrette if desired.

2 hearts romaine lettuce
2 small plum tomatoes, diced
1 Kirby cucumber or 1/4 European seedless cucumber, diced
1 small yellow onion or 1/2 red onion, chopped
1 carrot, peeled and shredded
1/4 cup (a couple of glugs) extra-virgin olive oil
2 to 3 tablespoons (a couple of splashes) red wine vinegar
1 teaspoon sugar
Coarse salt and black pepper

Steps:

  • Place salad greens in a salad bowl and top with tomatoes, cucumbers, onion, and carrot. Place oil, vinegar and sugar in a small plastic container. Put the lid on the container and shake dressing until sugar dissolves, about 1 minute. Pour dressing over salad. Season salad with salt and pepper, to taste, and toss to combine.

1 pound store-bought pizza dough,room temperature
3 tablespoons plus 1/3 cup extra-virgin olive oil
3 garlic cloves, finely grated
Kosher salt, freshly ground pepper
1 large head of Bibb lettuce, leaves separated and torn
4 ounces Gorgonzola, crumbled (about 1 1/2 cups)
1/2 cup pickled red onion
3 tablespoons sliced chives
4 ounces thinly sliced prosciutto, but any good thinly sliced ham will be delicious here
2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
1 teaspoon sugar

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 475°F. Place dough on a rimmed baking sheet and drizzle with 1 Tbsp. oil; turn to coat. Stretch dough outward with your hands until it covers the entire sheet (it should be thin, which is what you want). If dough springs back, let it rest a few minutes to relax before stretching again.
  • Mix garlic and 2 Tbsp. oil in a small bowl. Drizzle over dough, using your hands to spread across entire surface; season with salt and pepper. Bake dough, rotating baking sheet once, until golden, puffed, and crisp all over, 10-12 minutes. Let cool slightly (so lettuce won't wilt).
  • Toss lettuce, Gorgonzola, pickled onion, and chives in a large bowl; season with salt and pepper. Whisk vinegar and sugar in another small bowl, then, whisking constantly, gradually stream in remaining 1/3 cup oil. Pour dressing over salad and toss to coat.
  • Arrange salad on top of pizza crust and drape prosciutto over. Slice pizza into squares.

2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1 tablespoon grated Parmesan
1 clove garlic, crushed and peeled
1/2 cup halved cherry tomatoes
1 Persian cucumber, diced
1/4 small red onion, sliced
1/2 cup drained giardiniera, chopped
1/2 cup drained marinated artichoke quarters, chopped
1/4 cup pitted black Italian olives, such as Gaeta, halved
2 ounces thickly sliced provolone, cut into strips
1 ounce sliced Genoa salami, cut into strips
2 hearts of romaine, chopped
1 cup fresh ricotta
1 clove garlic, finely chopped
2 to 3 tablespoons heavy cream or whole milk
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
Extra-virgin olive oil, for brushing
1 pound prepared pizza dough, at room temperature
1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella
1/4 cup grated Parmesan
1/4 cup grated pecorino
Crushed red pepper flakes, for garnish

Steps:

  • Prepare a grill for medium heat.
  • For the salad: Whisk the vinegar, 1/2 teaspoon salt, several grinds of pepper and the oregano together in a large salad bowl. Slowly whisk in the oil to make a smooth dressing. Whisk in the Parmesan. Add the garlic clove and let sit for about 30 minutes to infuse (about as long as it takes to prepare the pizza).
  • Just before serving, discard the garlic clove. Add the tomatoes, cucumber, red onion, giardiniera, artichokes, olives, provolone and salami to the bowl and toss to coat. Add the romaine and toss again.
  • Meanwhile, for the pizza: Stir together the ricotta and chopped garlic in a small bowl. Stir in enough cream or milk to make a spreadable mixture. Season with salt and pepper. Brush a 14-inch or larger pizza pan with oil. Form the pizza dough into a ball and place on the pan. Brush the dough with oil. Use your fingers to gently stretch the dough to a 12- to 13-inch round. Brush the top of the dough once more with oil.
  • Quickly flip the pizza over the grill and remove the pan, leaving the dough round on the grill. Grill, covered, until the bottom of the dough is golden, has distinct grill marks and the top is set, about 3 minutes. Flip the dough so the grilled side is up. Brush the crust with olive oil. Spread the ricotta mixture almost to the edges. Sprinkle with the mozzarella, Parmesan and pecorino. Cover the grill and cook until the cheese is melted and the bottom crust is crisp and golden, 6 to 7 minutes.
  • Remove the pizza from the grill and cut into 8 slices. Sprinkle the pizza with red pepper flakes and oregano. Pile the salad on top and serve.

  • To prepare the dough: whisk flour, salt, and yeast in a large mixing bowl. Gradually add 1.5 cups water while stirring with a wooden spoon. Stir until well incorporated. Knead dough gently with your hands to bring it together and form into a rough ball. Add more flour if needed until it's no longer sticky to the touch, or alternatively more water if it's too dry. It should be plush and dough-like. (You might have to add lots more flour - this is normal. I used approx. 1/2 cup more).
  • Transfer dough to a large clean bowl. Cover with bees wrap and let dough rise at room temperature, in a draft-free area, until its surface is covered with tiny bubbles and the dough has doubled in size, approx. 6-10 hours.
  • Transfer dough to a floured work surface and gently shape into a rough rectangle. Divide into two equal portions and mold portions gently into a ball. Dust dough balls with more flour, and cover with bees wrap until ready to use. (Bring dough back to room temperate before baking).
  • Preheat oven to 240C/475F. Place dough balls each on a rimmed baking sheet and drizzle each with 1 tsp oil, turn to coat. Flatten dough with hands, until it covers most of the sheet. You want it to be thin. (If dough springs back, let it rest a few minutes, then try again).

While blending, slowly drizzle in the olive oil through the opening in the blender lid. Blend until ingredients are combined and thicken ever so slightly. Transfer dressing to a sealable glass container (like a mason jar) until ready to serve if not serving immediately.
  • To assemble the salad, add the lettuce to a large bowl. Toss with the Italian dressing now if serving immediately. You don't have to dress the salad though, you can just pour over individual servings if desired.
  • Top the lettuce with the cherry tomatoes, black olives, onion slices and pepperoncini. Top with extra freshly grated parmesan cheese if desired. Serve immediately or cover and refrigerate until ready to serve. Do not add the salad dressing until ready to serve.
