This is a really quick and easy topping to make for your bread. It's lighter than those that have cheese, and is different in that it doesn't include garlic or butter.

Number Of Ingredients 4

1/2 cup parmesan cheese, grated
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup green onion, chopped
French bread, sliced

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients except French bread in a small bowl; stir well.
  • Spread topping on sliced French bread, and place on an ungreased baking sheet. Broil 5 1/2 inches from heat (with electric oven door partially opened) until lightly browned. Serve warm.

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 package (1/4 ounce) active dry yeast
3/4 cup warm water (110° to 115°)
1 cup warm 2% milk (110° to 115°)
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup butter, softened
1 egg, separated
2 teaspoons salt, divided
4 to 4-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon water
1 teaspoon each poppy seeds, sesame seeds and caraway seeds
1 teaspoon dried minced onion

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Add the milk, sugar, butter, egg yolk, 1-1/2 teaspoons salt and 2 cups flour. Beat on medium speed for 3 minutes. Stir in enough remaining flour to form a soft dough (dough will be sticky). , Turn onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 6-8 minutes. Place in a bowl coated with cooking spray, turning once to coat top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour. , Punch dough down. Turn onto a lightly floured surface; divide in half. Shape into two round loaves. Place each on a baking sheet coated with cooking spray. Beat egg white and water; brush over loaves. , Combine the poppy seeds, sesame seeds, caraway seeds, onion and remaining salt; sprinkle over loaves. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 30 minutes., Bake at 375° for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Cut into wedges; serve warm.

This is kind of like frosting for french toast. My sister makes it every year when our family gets together for Christmas. All 37 of us look forward to the morning when she serves this sinfully delicious topping for our french toast (always made from old French bread).

1 (8 ounce) package light cream cheese, softened
2 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons light sour cream
2 tablespoons Cool Whip

Steps:

  • Mix all ingredients thoroughly with blender until it reaches a smooth, firm texture.
  • Add a GENEROUS amount to the French toast.
  • If desired, sandwich topping between two slices of French toast and pour syrup over the top.

  • Cream ingredients (except bread). You can do this by hand.
  • Cut 2" verticle slices into bread; not slicing through to the bottom.
  • Spread butter mixture in slits.
  • Wrap in foil; bake 15-20 minutes at 350 degrees.
  • Can cook on grill.

3 tablespoons flour
1 1/2 teaspoons sugar
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon dry mustard
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 tablespoons vinegar
1 1/2 cups tomato juice
1/2 cup water
1 loaf French bread, cut in 1 cm slices
25 g butter, softened
1 clove garlic, crushed (optional)
1 tablespoon French mixed mustard
chives, chopped
1 clove garlic
parsley

Steps:

  • CRUSTY TOPPING French bread cut in1 cm slices 25g soft butter 1 clove garlic, crushed (opt) 1 Tbsp French mixed mustard chopped chives, garlic cloves or parsley Cut steak in pieces, 6 cm by 4 cm.
  • Place in casserole. In a bowl mix all ingredients except crusty topping.
  • Pour over beef, and cover tightly.
  • Bake at 160 C for 2 hours.
  • Combine butter, add garlic (opt), mustard and herbs.
  • Spread on one side of each bread slice (use sufficient slices to cover the top of casserole). Arrange bread, buttered side up, on meat, pushing slices firmly down to soak up juices.
  • Return uncovered casserole to oven at 200 C for about 10 minutes or until bread is crisp and golden.
