TOFFEE APPLE FRENCH TOAST WITH CARAMEL SYRUP
When I was growing up, I loved waking up to the scent of French toast. I have adapted my mom's oven-baked version of he recipe to include one of my other all-time much loved treats; a caramel apple. -Suzanne Forsberg, Manteca, California

Steps:
- Place half of the bread cubes in a greased 13x9-in. baking dish. Top with apples and sprinkle with cider drink mix. In a small bowl, beat the cream cheese, sugars, 1/4 cup milk and 1 teaspoon vanilla until smooth. Stir in toffee. Spread over apples. Top with remaining bread cubes., In another bowl, whisk the eggs and remaining milk and vanilla. Pour over top. Cover and refrigerate overnight., Remove from the refrigerator 30 minutes before baking. Bake, uncovered, at 350° for 40-45 minutes or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving., Meanwhile, in a Dutch oven, combine the sugar, buttermilk, butter, corn syrup and baking soda. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Cook, stirring occasionally, until mixture turns a golden amber color, about 7 minutes. Remove from the heat; stir in vanilla. Serve with French toast.

- To make the French toast:.
- Place half of the bread cubes in a greased 13x9-inch baking pan, top with apples.
- In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese, sugars, apple juice and 1 teaspoon vanilla until smooth; stir in toffee bits. Spread over apples.
- Top with remaining bread cubes.
- In another large bowl, beat the eggs, milk and 1 teaspoon vanilla until well blended; pour over bread.
- Cover with foil and refrigerate overnight.
- Remove from the refrigerator 30 minutes before baking.
- Bake, uncovered, at 350 degrees for 40-45 minutes or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
- While the French toast is baking, prepare the syrup.
- To make the apple syrup:.
- In a medium-size saucepan, whisk together the sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, apple juice and lemon juice; heat to a boil, whisking constantly.
- Boil for 1 minute; then stir in butter.
- Serve over warm Apple Toffee French Toast.
- Enjoy!

BAKED APPLE FRENCH TOAST
I found this recipe at my mother in law's house. You can try other flavors of pie filling like blueberry but apple is the favorite at our house.

Steps:
- Grease a 9 x 13 baking dish.
- Spread pie filling in dish.
- In a pie plate, beat the eggs, milk and vanilla.
- Dip bread slices into the egg mixture for about a minute per slice, turning once.
- Arrange 2 rows of bread on top of pie filing overlapping slices slightly.
- Mix cinnamon and sugar.
- Brush bread with melted butter and sprinkle with sugar mixture.
- At this point, the dish may be refrigerated overnight, if needed.
- Preheat oven to 350°.
- Bake dish uncovered for 30-35 minutes or until slightly browned.
- Serve fruit side up.

- Prepare the night before.
- Combine butter, brown sugar and water in saucepan, and heat on medium until bubbling stirring frequently.
- Place in 9x13 inch pan and allow to cool for 20-30 minutes.
- Peel and core apple slices, and place slices in rows together overlapping on top of sauce in pan.
- Sprinkle with raisins and cinnamom.
- Cut bread 1 - 1 1/2 inches thick.
- Place bread on top of apples.
- Mix together milk, eggs, and vanilla and pour over bread.
- Cover and refrigerate overnight.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 60 minutes or until golden brown.
- Serve upside down.
- Spoon sauce in pan over French toast.
