Steps:
- Toss vegetables together in a medium bowl.
- In a medium saute pan, heat the butter and water together over medium heat. Add the vegetables to the pan and turn the heat to medium high. Toss the vegetables, by gently moving the pan back and forth over the flame. Cook the vegetables for 3 to 4 minutes, or until heated through. Season with salt and pepper. Transfer the vegetables to a serving bowl and serve immediately.
- Cook the vegetables in 1 to 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil or butter, without the water. Do this over high heat and brown and crisp the vegetables slightly.
- Add 1 to 2 teaspoons of minced garlic, minced shallot, a teaspoon of grated peeled fresh ginger to the pan before adding the vegetables. - Enhance the vegetables at the end of cooking with a tablespoon or so of minced fresh herbs, like chopped flat-leaf parsley, dill, mint, basil, cilantro, or thyme.
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil and salt it generously. Fill a large bowl with ice water, and put a colander or strainer in it. Add the vegetable to the boiling water and cook, uncovered, until crisp tender, or the desired degree of doneness. Scoop the vegetable from the water and immediately put them in the ice water, to stop the cooking and set their color. Cool and drain, and use as desired. When blanching a mix of vegetables, don't cook them together since they may not all cook at the same time. Start with the lightest colored or mildest flavored vegetable, and blanch and refresh each vegetable, one after the other, until cooked as desired.

Steps:
- You'll need a 3 quart saucepan with a steamer insert and lid. Fill your saucepan 1/2 full with water. Add 1 tbsp of black pepper and 1 tbsp of Mrs. Dash Seasoning Mix.
- Wash, peel and chop turnip (if you don't like turnips, substitute a 2nd unpeeled potato). Chop onions, carrots, and potato (don't peel the potato). Slice bell pepper into rings.
- Place turnips and potatoes in your steamer insert. Cover with frozen turnip greens, then add other ingredients. Sprinkle with 1 tbsp of black pepper and 1 tbsp of Mrs. Dash Seasoning Mix. Steam until turnips and potatoes can be easily pierced with a fork.
- After medley is done, remove steamer insert, add 1 cup of water to broth and boil a few 1/2 ears of corn for a special treat. Your corn will soak up the vegetable flavors from the broth and won't need any salt. Remove the corn when done and freeze remaining broth as a base for your next soup or stew.

HOW TO BRING MORE FLAVOR TO STEAMED VEGETABLES | SO …
From sodelicious.recipes
Estimated Reading Time 4 mins
- Salt and pepper. A dish is never going to taste great if salt and pepper aren’t involved in it in the slightest. It’s remarkable to me when I see how many people forget to add any of those in their dishes.
- Olive oil. Olive oil has a very important purpose in cooking: being a type of fat, it absorbs the flavor of everything around it and helps transfer it to the food items.
- Vinegar. You can use something acidic like vinegar (any type of vinegar, balsamic or red wine) or apple cider to bring some extra flavor to your veggies.
- Soy sauce or broth. Start with one or two tablespoons of soy sauce, vegetable broth, or chicken broth and add them to the water in the pot before adding the vegetables.
- Lemon juice. The acidity of the lemon juice can only do wonders for the vegetables. Don’t go overboard, though, just use a drizzle of it on the veggies before adding them to the steamer basket or colander.
- Garlic. What doesn’t garlic improve? I know I don’t have to advertise it anymore, but its flavor is so amazing, I could add it to anything. For steamed vegetables, it’s best to mince or crush the garlic and then saute it while the vegetables are steaming.
- Herbs. You can add whole sprigs of fresh herbs to your steamed veggies, but also do it near the end of the cooking process, because they might lose their flavor otherwise.
EIGHT WAYS TO MAKE STEAMED VEGETABLES TASTE AMAZING - KITCHN
From thekitchn.com
- Fresh herbs – Toss whole sprigs of fresh herbs, like parsley, thyme, or dill, over the steaming vegetables, or chop up the leaves and sprinkle them over the vegetables after they’re cooked.
- Garlic – Add sliced or chopped garlic to any vegetable, but leafy greens like kale really benefit from this extra zing. You can also sauté garlic with olive oil and toss it with vegetables after they’re steamed.
- Ginger – Place thinly sliced ginger at the bottom of the steaming basket and cover with butternut squash or other winter root vegetables. Like garlic, sauté ginger in olive oil first before tossing with steamed vegetables.
- Lemon – Add a few slices of lemon or lemon zest to vegetables, like broccoli, green beans, and summer squash. You can also add lemon juice to the steaming water.
- Olive oil – Before steaming, toss vegetables in the classic combination of olive oil, salt, and freshly ground black pepper.
- Sesame oil – Toss Asian vegetables, such as bok choy or gai lan, with toasted sesame oil, salt, and white pepper before steaming.
- Fish sauce or soy sauce – Add a couple tablespoons of fish sauce or soy sauce directly to the steaming water.
- Vinegar – Toss sweet vegetables, like sweet potatoes or carrots, with a splash of balsamic, red wine, or other vinegar before steaming to play off their natural sweetness.
