SOUTHERN PECAN PIE RECIPE

Southern Pecan Pie Recipe image

This Southern Pecan Pie is the best classic pie that you can prepare in no time. Nutty, sweet and oh so buttery, this pie was made to be on your holiday table!

Provided by Jocelyn Delk Adams

Categories     Dessert

Time 1h15m

Number Of Ingredients 10

1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup light corn syrup
3 tbsp Land O Lakes® Butter with Canola Oil or Regular Butter (melted)
3 eggs (beaten and room temperature)
2 tsp vanilla extract
2 tsp all purpose flour
pinch of salt
1 1/2 cups pecan halves
1 pie crust

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375˚F. In a medium sized bowl, whisk together both sugars until combined.
  • Next whisk in corn syrup, melted Land O Lakes® Butter with Canola Oil, beaten eggs and vanilla until mixture is smooth.
  • Quickly whisk in flour and pinch of salt until mixture is smooth but somewhat thickened.
  • Add pecan halves and use a spatula to combine.
  • Pour pecan filling into pie shell. If using my pie crust recipe, roll one of the disks out into the pie plate then use a fork to poke holes along the sides and bottom of the pie crust. Line the pie crust with parchment paper. Fill with pie weights, making sure the weights are evenly distributed around the pie dish. Pre-bake the crust for 10 minutes. Carefully remove the parchment paper/pie weights then add the filling. If you would like, you can brush some egg wash on the outside of the crust as well (just take 1 egg and whisk together with a teaspoon of water).
  • Bake for 15 minutes then lower temperature to 350˚F and bake 30-40 minutes or until center of pie jiggles only slightly. If it shakes too much, leave it in the oven to bake longer. The pie should be almost stable. If you find that the crust is browning too quickly, add a pie shield or some foil on the outside halfway through the bake.
  • Remove pie from oven and allow to cool to room temperature, then serve.

SOUTHERN PECAN PIE

Southern Pecan Pie image

Follow step-by-step, photo illustrated instructions for making one of the South's favorite desserts - Pecan Pie. We're using an old recipe that calls for Brown Sugar and just a little Karo Corn Syrup. Wait, did I mention it also has a little bit of Corn Meal? We're using a made-from-scratch pie crust, but you could certainly use one ready made. See just how easy it is to make a great pie.

Provided by Steve Gordon

Categories     Desserts

Time 1h

Number Of Ingredients 9

2/3 cup Dark Brown Sugar
1/3 cup Karo Corn Syrup, light or dark
2 Tablespoons Milk
1 heaping Tablespoon Corn Meal
2 Eggs
Dash of Salt
1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
1 cup Pecan meats, chopped
3 Tablespoons melted Butter

Steps:

  • In a medium mixing bowl, add the following.
  • Add brown sugar.
  • Add corn syrup.
  • Add milk.
  • Add corn meal.
  • Add the beaten eggs.
  • Add salt.
  • Mix all ingredients well, making sure the eggs are fully incorporated and smooth.
  • Add vanilla extract.
  • Add pecans.
  • Add melted butter.
  • Stir well.
  • Dust the pastry in the pie plate with a mixture of one teaspoon sugar and one teaspoon flour, to prevent the bottom crust from getting soggy.
  • Pour the filling into the pie plate, being careful not to overfill.
  • Place the pie on a baking sheet before placing in oven.
  • Bake at 350º for 30 to 40 minutes, or until pie reaches internal temp of 200ºF.
  • If the edges of the crust begin to burn, cover edges with aluminum foil or a pie shield.
  • Tap the center of the pie lightly, it should spring back if done.
  • A wooden toothpick inserted into the center will pull out clean if the pie is done.
  • Remove pie from oven when done, sit on a cooling rack and let cool for several hours.
  • Slice when cool, serve and Enjoy!

BLACK FOLKS SOUTHERN PECAN PIE RECIPE

Black Folks Southern Pecan Pie Recipe image

Black folks' Southern pecan pie recipe is an old-fashioned African American soul food classic that yields an abundance of sweet flavor with each bite. Brown sugar is combined with a syrupy pecan filling, caramelized, and then baked.

Provided by Shaunda Necole

Categories     Dessert

Time 1h5m

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 ½ cups pecans (halved & coarsely chopped)
¾ cup light brown sugar
1 ½ cups corn syrup (I used dark Karo syrup - you could also use light corn syrup)
1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
¼ cup butter (unsalted)
2 eggs
½ teaspoon salt
1 unbaked pie shell

Steps:

  • Grease a deep-dish pie pan or pie dish and add the pie crust to it.
  • Use a fork to poke holes in the bottom of the dough so the pie crust can vent when cooked with the filling in it.
  • Optional - Here is where you can crimp or flute the pie crust if using dough crust or homemade crust.
  • Bake the pie crust in the conventional oven at 350 degrees F for 7-10 minutes or the Instant Pot Omni Plus oven for 5-6 minutes.
  • Set the pie crust aside.
  • Open the Instant Pot lid and turn on the sauté setting for 5 minutes, although you may need all of this time.
  • Pour the sugar and corn syrup into the stainless-steel inner pot and let the mixture come to a boil, simmering for 1 minute. (If you're not using an Instant Pot, you can do this step on the stovetop.)
  • Turn off the Instant Pot and set the mixture aside to cool.
  • Stir the butter into the warm mixture so that it melts.
  • Next, add the vanilla extract and salt, and stir to combine.
  • Then when the mixture is cool enough to add the eggs without the eggs scrambling, whisk the eggs in a small bowl.
  • Slowly pour the eggs into the syrup mixture, constantly whisking until blended.
  • Now add the chopped pecans, slowly stirring them into the mixture.
  • Pour the finished pie filling into the pie crust.
  • Cover the edges of the crust with foil to prevent them from overcooking or burning.
  • Bake at 350° F in the conventional oven for 40-45 minutes, in the Instant Pot Omni Plus oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the pie filling sets and is firm and not liquidy when you give the pie a jiggle.
  • Allow the pecan pie to cool off and set for about 4 hours at room temperature before slicing, then serve and enjoy this Southern homemade pecan pie!

35 CLASSIC SOUTHERN FOODS GRANDMA USED TO MAKE — EAT …

From eatthis.com
  • Deviled Eggs. The roots of "stuffed eggs" can be traced back to ancient Rome. But the term "devil" was introduced to describe spicy or highly seasoned food in great Britain in the 1700s.
  • Buttermilk Biscuits. Southern grandmothers often had a bread bowl where they kept flour ready to mix biscuits for the dinner meal. They perfected the art of biscuit-making as an easy way to fill up hungry bellies at their table, and you can do the same today with a simple biscuit recipe.
  • Fried Chicken. There may be nothing more iconic to the Southern food canon than fried chicken. The meat, dredged in thick flour and fried to a golden crisp, is a salty and satisfying meal.
  • Peach Cobbler. While peaches are grown across the United States, there is something very special about the versions harvested in Georgia. Known as "The Peach State," connoisseurs swear by the quality of fruit grown in the state.
  • Grits. If you're not from the South, I bet you've wondered what grits are. Similar to polenta, grits are made by grinding white corn called hominy. Before the kernels are ground, the hulls are removed, resulting in a fine consistency.
  • Banana Pudding. Banana pudding is a staple at potluck dinners, comfort food at funerals, and a sweet ending for summer suppers. Southerners have enjoyed scoops of the cool custard topped with whipped meringue and studded with bananas and Nilla wafers for years, and it's not going away anytime soon.
  • Chicken Pot Pie. While no one down South can claim that meat pot pies got their start in the area, there is hardly a family who doesn't sit down to this dish often.
  • Chicken and Dumplings. Many memories of Southern grandmas involve them rolling out the dumpling dough right on the counter, flouring the surface to prevent it from sticking.
  • Blackened Catfish. A funny-looking fish inhabits the creeks and rivers of the lower South, and it has whiskers. They are a fun fish to catch, simply caught by many Southern children with a cane pole loaded with a piece of a hot dog.
  • Coca-Cola Cake. Some bakers in the South swear by the addition of Coca-Cola to cake to punch up the sweetness and add airiness to the texture with the carbonation.
