1 ½ cups sugar
1 cup sour cream
½ cup butter, softened
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups mashed bananas (about 3 large)
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ cup butter
3 3/4 cups powdered sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
4 to 5 tablespoons half and half

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a 10×15 jelly roll pan.
  • In bowl of an electric mixer (or you can use a hand mixer), combine the sugar, sour cream, butter and eggs. Mix on low speed, scraping bowl occasionally, until combined. Add bananas and vanilla and mix on low speed for about 30 seconds.
  • Add flour, salt and baking soda and mix on medium speed just until combined (about 1 minute). Pour into prepared pan and bake 18 to 22 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean. Cool until just slightly warm and frost with Browned Butter Frosting (recipe below).

Steps:

  • Beat white sugar, sour cream, 1/2 cup softened butter, and eggs in a bowl with an electric mixer until creamy. Beat in bananas and 2 teaspoons vanilla extract. Add flour, baking soda, and salt; mix for 1 minute. Stir walnuts into batter until evenly incorporated. Spread batter in prepared pan.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until golden, about 27 minutes. Cool.
