I found something similar to this on the Hillshire farm website. It sounds really good and I can't wait to make, maybe for the Super Bowl.

8 ounces smoked sausage
16 ounces Velveeta cheese, cubed
1 cup salsa
tortilla chips

Steps:

  • Cut sausage into 1/4 inch sliced and then quarter them. Saute until brown. then drain on paper towel.
  • Put the cheese and salsa into a bowl. Melt in the microwave, stirring often. When the cheese mixture is melted stir in the cooked sausage. Consume with tortilla chips. The yield is a guess.

16 ounces Eckrich smoked sausage, halved lengthwise and sliced thick
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
3 tablespoons horseradish
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 cup chopped green onion

Steps:

  • Stir-fry sausage in large non-stick skillet approximately 3-5 minutes. Mix remaining ingredients in microwave safe bowl. Microwave on medium (50% power) 1 minute. Stir. Heat 1 minute. Serve sausage on party picks with dip.

This appetizer can be as made hot as you like it by adjusting the number of peppers. I have never taken it anywhere without being asked for the recipe. I serve it in a small crock pot to keep it warm. This makes a large amount and it freezes well. I hope you enjoy it!

1 lb lean ground beef
1 lb hot Italian sausage
1 large onion
1 (10 ounce) can mushroom soup
1 (19 ounce) can diced tomatoes with seasonings (regular diced would work)
2 lbs Velveeta cheese
5 jalapeno peppers (chopped small)
2 cups hot salsa
tortilla chips (for dipping)

Steps:

  • Brown ground beef, sausage meat and onion.
  • Drain fat.
  • Add the rest of the ingredients (except the tortilla chips).
  • Simmer until the cheese melts.
  • Serve warm with tortilla chips.
