Slow Cooker BBQ Green Beans are sweet and tangy, easy to make, and perfect for cookouts or as a side with your weeknight dinner.

Number Of Ingredients 12

6 - 8 cups fresh green beans, ends snipped. Cut larger beans in half. (OR you can use 4 (14.5 oz.) cans green beans, rinsed and drained)
8 slices cooked bacon, chopped
2 tablespoons bacon drippings (OR 2 tablespoons butter)
1 small onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 cup ketchup
1/3 cup light brown sugar
1/3 cup BBQ sauce (I used Sonny's Sweet BBQ sauce)
1/4 cup raw honey
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (more if you like)
salt and pepper, to taste

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine ketchup, brown sugar, BBQ sauce, honey, Worcestershire sauce and cayenne until combined. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Heat 2 tablespoons reserved bacon drippings in a skillet over medium-high heat and sauté onion until softened.. Add the garlic and cook for another 30 seconds. Remove from heat.
  • Place green beans and onions in slow cooker. Then pour BBQ ketchup mixture over them.
  • Mix everything together until incorporated, then top with crumbled bacon
  • Cover slow cooker and cook on high for 2-3 hours, or on low for 4-5 hours.

8 slices of bacon
2 pounds of rinsed and trimmed fresh green beans
1/2 cup yellow onion (diced)
1 potato (diced)
1 1/2 cups chicken broth or stock
salt and pepper to taste

Steps:

  • Cut the bacon into small pieces and cook over medium heat until the bacon is fully rendered and crispy.
  • Add the onions and saute with bacon until transparent.
  • Lightly spray a slow cooker with cooking spray and add green beans. and pepper and stir making sure the bacon drippings are getting mixed in well.
  • Add bacon and onion mixture followed by the diced potatoes.
  • Add chicken broth, salt and pepper to taste. I frequently don't even add salt because the bacon has so much already.
  • Cover and cook on low heat for 6 to 8 hours or high heat for 3 to 4 hours or until beans reach your desired level of tenderness.
  • Add salt and pepper to taste. Serve immediately.

1/2 cup chopped onion
1 pound fresh green beans, stem ends trimmed
3/4 cup barbecue sauce

Steps:

  • Ideal Slow Cooker Size: 3- to 4-Quart.
  • In a small nonstick skillet set over medium heat, cook the bacon until crisp. Drain well on paper towels, crumble and set aside.
  • Grease the slow cooker with some of the bacon drippings.
  • Add the onion to the skillet and cook, stirring often, until softened, about 5 minutes.
  • Put the beans, crumbled bacon, and onion in the slow cooker. Pour over the barbecue sauce.
  • Cover and cook on LOW until the beans are tender and glazed, 6 to 7 hours.
  • Serve hot.

2 lb. green beans, ends trimmed
8 bacon slices, sliced
1 onion, diced
1/4 cup BBQ sauce
1/2 cup homemade ketchup
2 tbsp. raw honey (optional)
2 tbsp. coconut aminos
2 tbsp. apple cider vinegar
2 tsp. hot pepper sauce (optional)
Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper

Steps:

  • Place the green beans and diced onions in a slow cooker. Cook the bacon in a skillet 4 to 5 minutes, then add the bacon to the slow cooker. Pour any remaining bacon fat into the slow cooker too, up to 1/4 cup. In a bowl, combine the BBQ sauce, ketchup, honey, coconut aminos, vinegar, hot pepper sauce, and season to taste. Add this to the slow cooker and mix everything together. Cover and cook on low 3 to 4 hours, until beans are tender. Mix everything gently again and serve.

2 slices pork bacon or 2 slices turkey bacon
1 small yellow onions or 1 small white onion, chopped
1 lb fresh green beans, stem ends snapped off
3/4 cup barbecue sauce, of your choice

  • In a small skillet over medium-high heat, cook the bacon until crisp. Drain on paper towels, crumble and set aside.
  • Grease the inside of the slow cooker with some of the bacon drippengs.
  • Add the onion to the skillet and cook, stirring, until softened, about 5 minutes.
  • Put the beans, crumbled bacon, and onion in the cooker. Pour over the barbecue suace, cover, and cook on Low until the beans are tender and glazed, 6 to 7 hours. Serve hot!

Found this in an old cookbook of mine. I tried this with a combination of ketchup, and BBQ sauce, and we liked the results.

1 lb bacon
1/4 cup onion, chopped
1/2 cup ketchup
1/4 cup barbecue sauce
1/2 cup brown sugar
3 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 cups green beans

Steps:

  • Brown bacon in skillet until crisp, and then break into pieces, reserving 2 tablespoons bacon drippings.
  • Saute onions in the bacon drippings.
  • Combine ketchup, barbecue sauce, brown sugar, worcestershire, and salt, and stir into bacon and onions.
  • Pour mixture over green beans, and mix lightly.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes, or until beans are tender.

  • Cut 6 of the bacon slices into 1/2-inch pieces. Cook, stirring often, in a large skillet over medium-high until crispy, about 8 minutes.
