GRILLED TEQUILA LIME SHRIMP

This grilled tequila lime shrimp is absolutely perfect for a nice summer day when the sun is out and your friends are expecting some killer food to munch on! The tequila adds such an incredible flavor and works with the lime to make these shrimp incredible!

Categories     Seafood

Time 4h14m

Number Of Ingredients 6

1-1.5 pounds large shrimp, peeled and deveined with tails on
1/4 cup tequila
1/4 cup fresh lime juice
2 tablespoons olive oil
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon ancho chile powder

Steps:

  • Ensure the shrimp are peeled and deveined. I like to keep the tails on for a more finger-food-friendly serving option.
  • Add the tequila, lime juice, olive oil, garlic, and chile powder to a large bowl. Thoroughly mix to combine all ingredients.
  • Add your shrimp to the marinade and cover the bowl with plastic wrap. Place it in the fridge for 1-4 hours so the shrimp can marinate and soak up all of the flavors.
  • Soak some bamboo skewers in water while the shrimp marinates. This prevents them from burning while on the grill (see recipe notes)
  • Preheat your charcoal grill. You want a grill that is fairly hot with direct heat.
  • Pierce 4-5 shrimp on each skewer (see recipe notes).
  • Place the shrimp skewers on the grill and cook for 1-2 minutes on each side. The shrimp will cook very quickly and should form a "C" when fully cooked, not an "O" (see recipe notes).

TEQUILA-ORANGE GRILLED SHRIMP

Tequila-Orange Grilled Shrimp image

This is one of those recipes that you will treasure. I make this allot for entertaining and everyone always RAVES about it. I ALWAYS make the Lime Cilantro Rice and Avocado Salad posted by me with this dish. The combination is a truly amazing meal. That is guaranteed to impress! Hint: DO NOT make this marinade ahead (like the day before) the zest will cause it to get very bitter tasting! Also it says to cook mixture 7-8 minutes until gets thick and syrupy. I low boil it for 20-25 minute and it still isn't that thick, but it works! This is a Martha Stewart recipe.

  • Put your shrimp in a big zipper-log bag. Pour the marinade over them, squeeze out the air, and seal the bag. Put the bug in the refrigerator, and let the shrimp marinate for at least a few hours, turning the bag now and then.
  • When it's time for dinner, drain off the marinade into saucepan, and grill or broil your shrimp(3 to 4 minutes per side). While the shrimp is cooking, boil the marinade hard for a few minutes. This kills the germs so you can serve it as a dipping sauce for a grilled shrimp.
