BROCCOLINI WITH SESAME AND GINGER

Broccolini with Sesame and Ginger image

Broccolini is delicious when used in place of broccoli or asparagus in recipes. This side dish goes well with broiled fish or roasted or sauteed chicken.

SESAME BROCCOLI, REALLY..IT'S GOOD!

Sesame Broccoli, Really..it's Good! image

The dish is a nice and easy change from the norm, and quite different from some of the other broccoli recipes I have seen here. Try it, you might like it as much as we do! Due to a great suggestion from a reviewer, I have added toasting the sesame seeds, a marvelous idea! Also, PLEASE don't substitute the sesame oil as one review did here, you loose the entire flavor of this great dish! This is an adopted recipe and the above comments were made before I inherited it. Now having made this dish, I can concurr: it's a sesame oil that turns your head and gets your taste buds going in this recipe, and toasting the seeds also adds fuller flavour. I'm delighted to have adopted this recipe and will be making it often:) I hope that you will enjoy it too!

GARLIC & SESAME BROCCOLI

Garlic & Sesame Broccoli image

This is an adaptation of recipe #17398 by Risë. I was out of red pepper flakes so I substituted Sesame Seeds instead.

Provided by Teddys Mommy

Categories     Vegetable

Time 20m

Yield 4-5 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 tablespoons olive oil (light)
1 teaspoon sesame seeds
4 garlic cloves, minced
1/2 cup chicken broth
2 lbs broccoli

Steps:

  • Cut broccoli into bite sized pieces.
  • Boil in water for about 5 to 7 minutes.
  • (broccoli should just start to soften).
  • Rinse under COLD water (to stop the cooking).
  • Dry to remove any excess water.
  • In a large skillet, heat the oil until hot.
  • Add the garlic and sesame seeds.
  • Sautee for 1 minute.
  • Add the broccoli and"some" of the broth.
  • (I say "some" as you don't want it soaking in it, you just want it to help steam and add flavor) Cook for 2 to 4 minutes (depending on the way you like your broccoli, tender or crisp) stirring the entire time Season lightly with table salt.
  • As everyone has their own tastes, increase or decrease the garlic and or sesame seeds as desired.
