Want something a little different? Try this one.. it has a bit of heat from the shredded radishes. This is a favorite for a picnic, potluck or a Baked Bean Saturday night supper. From my friend, Carol.

4 cups cabbage, shredded fine (I use green and red mixed)
1 cup carrot, shredded
10 radishes, shredded
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon malt vinegar
1 cup mayonnaise

Steps:

  • Shred cabbage, sprinkle with sugar and salt.
  • Let set for two hours or longer.
  • Turn mixture over a couple of time while cabbage is leaching its juices.
  • Drain liquid from bowl.
  • Add rest of the ingredients, toss and serve.
  • May be chilled and served the next day.

3 tablespoons red-wine vinegar

5 radishes, thinly sliced

Steps:

  • Toss cabbage with salt in a large bowl and let stand, stirring occasionally, 20 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, whisk together oil, vinegar, honey mustard, and pepper in a small bowl until combined.
  • Rinse cabbage with cold water in a colander, then firmly squeeze handfuls to remove excess water and transfer cabbage to cleaned bowl. Add radishes and dressing to cabbage, tossing to combine.

1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons canola oil
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro
4 scallions, sliced
1 small head red cabbage, thinly sliced
1 small cucumber, peeled, seeded and thinly sliced
1 bunch radishes, thinly sliced (about 2 cups)

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, whisk together the cider vinegar, canola oil and sugar. Season with salt and pepper. Add the cilantro, scallions, three-quarters of the cabbage (reserve the remaining cabbage for another use, such as Round 2 Recipe Cabbage and Beef Stir Fry), cucumbers and radishes. Toss to combine. Cover and keep in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

1/2 small head green cabbage
1/2 small head savoy cabbage
1 medium watermelon radish or 1 bunch red radishes
2 poblano chilies
3 tablespoons fresh lime juice, more to taste
1/2 cup minced fresh cilantro
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
Freshly ground pepper to taste
Pinch cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon sugar
3 1/2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Steps:

  • Make slaw: Remove tough outer leaves of cabbage halves and core halves. Using a food processor, a mandoline or a knife, shred cabbage as finely as possible.
  • Peel watermelon radish and cut into matchsticks, then cut matchsticks in half. Alternatively, trim radishes and roughly chop. Stem chilies and deseed them, then chop in pieces smaller than a dime. In a large bowl, mix all ingredients together. Set aside.
  • Make vinaigrette: In small bowl, whisk together all ingredients except oil. Let cilantro steep in mixture for a few minutes, then whisk in the oil in a steady stream to emulsify.
  • Taste and add more lime juice, salt or pepper if needed. Pour over slaw and blend well. Serve.

1/2 head green cabbage, split lengthwise,and shredded crosswise
1 medium daikon radish, peeled,cut crosswise in 1 1/2 inch pieces,pieces finely julienned lengthwise
1 green bell pepper, seeded and finely julienned
1 red bell pepper, seeded and finely julienned
3 -4 green onions, sliced lengthwise and julienne pieces cut in 1 1/2 inch long
1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro leaves
1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon kosher salt, to taste
1/2 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper, to taste
1/2 teaspoon garlic granules
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil

Steps:

  • Combine veggies in a medium bowl, and toss to combine.
  • Whisk together all dressing ingredients, except olive oil, and then slowly whisk in olive oil.
  • Pour over veggies, and toss to combine.
  • Allow to set at room temperature for about 20 minutes for flavor to develop, taste, and adjust seasonings.
  • Cover, and refrigerate until ready to serve.
  • Best if served within a couple of hours, but still tasty, even though it's a little limp, for several days.
