SIMPLE SANGRIA

Simple Sangria image

I had a craving for sangria and I found this on about.com. I just clarified the directions a little bit. It's a very simple recipe. Ideally you want to chill overnight but I tried after seven hours (couldn't wait) and I thought it tasted really good. Time doesn't include chilling.

Provided by flygirl 5

Categories     Punch Beverage

Time 5m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 (750 ml) bottle red wine (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Rioja reds, Zinfandel, Shiraz we use a cheap shiraz)
1 lemon
1 orange
2 tablespoons sugar
3 tablespoons brandy (one shot)
2 cups ginger ale (or club soda)
1 lemon (or orange, sliced for garnish) (optional)

Steps:

  • Slice the orange and lemon into thin slices. You can also cut them into smaller pieces (wedges) if you wish. Throw out the ends and any seeds.
  • Pour wine into large pitcher, slightly squeeze fruit juice into the wine. Put fruit into the pitcher.
  • Add the sugar and brandy.
  • Stir and chill overnight.
  • When ready to serve add the ginger ale and stir gently.
  • Add lemon or orange slices as a garnish (optional).

THE BEST SANGRIA

The Best Sangria image

The longer sangria sits before drinking, the more smooth and mellow it will taste. A full day is best, but if that's impossible, give it an absolute minimum of two hours to sit. Use large, heavy, juicy oranges and lemons for the best flavor. Doubling or tripling the recipe is fine, but you'll have to switch to a large punch bowl in place of the pitcher. Categories     Beverages

Time 2h10m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 large oranges, washed, one orange sliced, remaining orange juiced
1 large lemon, washed and sliced
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup triple sec
1 (750 ml) bottle inexpensive fruity medium-bodied red wine, chilled

Steps:

  • Add sliced orange and lemon and sugar to large pitcher; mash gently with wooden spoon until fruit releases some juice, but is not totally crushed, and sugar dissolves, about 1 minute.
  • Stir in orange juice, Triple Sec, and wine; refrigerate for at least 2, and up to 8, hours.
  • Before serving, add 6 to 8 ice cubes and stir briskly to distribute settled fruit and pulp; serve immediately.

QUICK SANGRIA

Quick Sangria image

Though this recipe makes a great sipping sangria, you can also make it into ice cubes. Serve sangria with sangria ice cubes, or add the ice cubes to a glass of red wine for a fun twist.

Provided by Alex Guarnaschelli

Categories     beverage

Time 20m

Yield 6 to 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 9

1/4 cup brandy
1/4 cup dark brown sugar
1 pint fresh raspberries
Two 750-milliliter bottles red wine
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
1 cinnamon stick
2 cups coconut water, chilled
1 small Fuji apple, cored and diced
1 small Granny Smith apple, cored and diced 1 tangerine, cut into thin rounds

Steps:

  • Combine the brandy, sugar and half of the raspberries in a medium saucepan over medium heat and cook, stirring, until the sugar dissolves, 2 to 3 minutes. Add the red wine, vinegar and cinnamon stick and cook until the wine reduces by half, 8 to 10 minutes. Transfer to a bowl set over a bowl of ice to chill it quickly. Once the wine is cool, stir in the coconut water, apples and tangerine slices. Discard the cinnamon stick. If too strong, add some cold water.

EASY SANGRIA RECIPE IN LESS THAN 1 MINUTE | WINE FOLLY
The wine used to make sangria was most likely Rioja (an official Spanish growing region since 1953). Rioja is made with Tempranillo grapes and is a fruity red wine with light tannin. Perhaps by coincidence, sangria is best made with wine varietals that are fruity and have lighter tannin. Consider these: Merlot; Garnacha (aka Grenache) Zinfandel; Tempranillo
