PUMPKIN EGGNOG

Pumpkin Eggnog image

Provided by Marc Murphy

Categories     beverage

Time 40m

Yield 4 to 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 8

One 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
1 1/2 cups heavy cream
1 cup pumpkin puree
Pinch ground cloves
8 large egg yolks
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup bourbon
8 ice cubes

Steps:

  • Prepare a bowl set into a large bowl filled with ice and water and set aside.
  • Combine the condensed milk, cream, pumpkin puree and cloves in a medium heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium heat. Cook, whisking, until just below simmering. Place the egg yolks in a bowl and whisk to combine. Slowly add some of the warm cream mixture (about 1/4 cup) to the yolks, whisking constantly (this is called tempering and will prevent the yolks from curdling). Then, whisk the tempered egg yolk mixture into the saucepan. Remove from the heat and cool down by pouring the mixture into the prepared bowl. Stir occasionally, until completely cooled down.
  • Place the mixture into a blender along with the sugar, bourbon and ice cubes. Blend until smooth. To serve, fill rocks glasses with ice and pour the eggnog over.

PUMPKIN DOG BISCUITS

Pumpkin Dog Biscuits image

Posted this recipe by request. Dogs love these dog treats! I can't remember how many treats this recipe makes, so I just guessed.

Provided by Kim D.

Categories     Healthy

Time 55m

Yield 20 treats

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 eggs
1/2 cup canned pumpkin
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons dry milk
2 1/2 cups flour (wheat is probably better!)
water

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Blend eggs and pumpkin together; add salt, dry milk, and flour.
  • Add water as needed to make the dough somewhat workable.
  • The dough should be dry and stiff, don't be concerned with crumbs being left in the bowl.
  • You will need to mix this with your hands because it is too stiff for an electric mixer.
  • Roll to 1/2-inch thick.
  • Cut into shapes.
  • Place 1" apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
  • Bake for 20 minutes on one side, then turn over and bake another 20 minutes.

5 GREAT BENEFITS OF PUMPKIN FOR DOGS | PETCARERX

From petcarerx.com
Estimated Reading Time 3 mins
  • Pumpkin as a Nutrient-Rich Veggie. Pumpkins are choc-full of nutrients. They contain loads of vitamin A, respectable amounts of vitamin C, and good quantities of other enriching minerals like potassium.
  • Pumpkin as a Weight Loss Aid. Adding an appropriate serving of pumpkin to your dog’s food adds both volume and fiber to their diet. This can help fill them up while you’re trying to slim them down.
  • Pumpkin as Medicine. The fiber in pumpkin can serve to both loosenor tighten your dog’s bowels. It knows what it’s doing, and will magically (aka, scientifically) address whichever issue your dog faces.
  • Pumpkin as an Antioxidant. Pumpkin is rich in antioxidants from the carotenoid family. These carotenoids are very absorbable and sit in your dog’s cell membranes to fight oxidative damage.
  • Another Pumpkin Upside. Dogs usually enjoy the taste! So if you’re adding pumpkin to your dog’s diet for medicinal purposes, the sneaky pill-slipping tricks we often employ should not be necessary.

10 HEALTH BENEFITS OF PUMPKIN FOR DOGS - HOMES ALIVE

From blog.homesalive.ca
Author Amy Dyck
  • Pumpkin is Nutrient-Rich. If you look at the nutritional information for one cup of cooked pumpkin (USDA Nutritional Database), you can see that pumpkin is low in calories, but rich in a host of essential vitamins and minerals.
  • Pumpkin Benefits Eyes. Vitamin A is essential for your eye health, and it’s no different when it comes to your dog. Vitamin A promotes eye health and the development of night blindness and other eye degeneration.
  • Pumpkins Boost Immune Health. Vitamin C is integral for immune health all-around. When combined with vitamin A (beta-carotene), E, and other antioxidants in pumpkin for dogs, it can possibly help prevent certain cancers from developing.
  • Pumpkins Moisturize Skin & Coat. A number of nutrients in pumpkin, including vitamin A and zinc, improve your pet’s skin and coat. The high water content in pumpkin flesh also contributes to supple skin and a lustrous coat.
  • Pumpkin Seeds Prevent Urinary Incontinence. Don’t just look to the pumpkin flesh for your pet’s health – give him a taste of the seeds, too! Pumpkin seeds and flesh contain antioxidants and the seeds, in particular, contain a healthy dose of Omega 3 fatty acids.
  • Pumpkins Encourage Digestive Regularity. A sign of your dog’s good health is whether he is pooping normally. Hard stools or those that are difficult to pass put a strain on your dog’s intestines.
  • Pumpkin Can Help Naturally Control Parasites. Parasites, such as tapeworms, can wreak havoc with your dog’s digestive system and cause unpleasant symptoms including weight loss, nutrient deficiency, dry skin, and a shabby coat.
  • Pumpkins Aid in Weight Loss. Pumpkins have a high moisture and fibre content, which makes them a powerful tool for your pet’s weight loss. Replacing a little of your dog’s regular food with canned pumpkin (a few teaspoons for a small dog up to half a cup with a large dog) can help your dog lose some excess water and weight.
  • Pumpkin Hydrates. Many dogs fed a kibble-only diet suffer from mild, but chronic dehydration. Dry dog food has very low moisture content and dogs do not possess a very strong thirst drive.
  • Pumpkin Tastes Great. Like many people, dogs relish the rich, creamy flavour of pumpkin. And anyone who has tried to feed a dog something healthy that does not taste like goodwill appreciates this benefit thoroughly.
