Number Of Ingredients 7

2 tbsp. GOYA® Extra Virgin Olive Oil
½ medium yellow onion, finely chopped (about ½ cup)
¼ green bell pepper, finely chopped (about ¼ cup)
1 medium tomato, finely chopped, (about ½ cup)
1 packet GOYA® Powdered Chicken Flavored Bouillon
1 packet Sazón GOYA® with Saffron
1 cup CANILLA® Extra Long Grain Rice

Steps:

  • Step 1 Bring 2 cups water to a boil. Turn off heat; set aside. Step 2 Heat oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Stir in onions and peppers; cook until soft and translucent, 5 - 8 minutes. Stir in tomatoes, chicken bouillon and sazón; cook until warmed through. Step 3 Pour rice into pot; stir to coat. Cook rice 1 minute. Pour in hot water; stir to combine. Bring rice mixture to a boil. Lower heat to medium-low and simmer, covered, until rice is tender and water is absorbed completely, about 25 minutes. Step 4 Fluff rice with a fork and let it sit, covered, for 5 minutes before serving.

Basic Puerto Rican Rice Recipe image

Fluffy, flavorful, firm and filling this easy to make Puerto Rican rice recipe is one the whole family will love!

Number Of Ingredients 15

2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
2 ounces of salt pork (optional)
1/4 cup of homemade sofrito (optional and see note)
1/2 cup of chopped onions
1/2 red bell pepper (chopped -if not using sofrito)
1/2 green bell pepper (chopped -if not using sofrito)
2 cloves of garlic (finely chopped)
1/4 cup of cilantro (rinsed and chopped)
4 ounces of tomato sauce
2 tablespoons of salt
1 tablespoon of dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon of ground thyme (optional)
1 packet of Sazon seasoning packet
3 cups of long grain rice (rinsed and drained)
4 1/2 cups of good quality chicken broth or water (see note)

Steps:

  • Rinse and drain rice, set to the side.
  • Warm oil in a caldero over medium high heat.
  • Add salted pork and cook for about two minutes before adding in sofrito and onions or chopped vegetables, except for garlic.
  • Cook vegetables until softened, about 4 minutes, occasionally stirring.
  • Add in garlic and cook for thirty seconds before adding in tomato sauce, seasonings, and cilantro.
  • Let sauce come to a bubble and stir in rice.
  • Stir rice occasionally for two minutes for the rice to absorb the sofrito sauce.
  • Allow to cook about a minute, stirring occasionally before adding in the rice.
  • Pour in chicken broth or water with chicken bullion.
  • Bring the liquid to a boil and then lower to a steady simmer (think medium).
  • Cook uncovered for 12-14 minutes not stirring until the water levels evaporate to where you see the top of the rice and it the rice looks like craters.
  • Stir once and cover.
  • Lower heat to low. DO NOT UNCOVER!
  • Cook rice for twenty minutes. DO NOT TOUCH OR UNCOVER!
  • After 20 minutes DO NOT UNCOVER YET, remove pot from heat and let it steam for about 15 minutes before uncovering.
  • Uncover and gently fluff with a fork before serving.

2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil (or 2 tablespoons annatto/achiote oil )
2 to 4 tablespoons sofrito (homemade or store-bought)
1 packet sazón with annatto (omit if you are using annatto/achiote oil)
10 pimiento-stuffed Spanish Manzanilla olives (whole or chopped)
1 bay leaf
Salt (to taste)
Pepper (to taste)
1/2 cup corn kernels (fresh, frozen, or canned and drained)
1 cup rice (long-grain white)
4 cups water (or chicken broth)

Steps:

  • Gather the ingredients.
  • In a medium saucepan with a tight-fitting lid, heat the oil or annatto/achiote oil over medium heat until it shimmers.
  • Add the sofrito and sauté lightly until fragrant, about 1 to 2 minutes.
  • Add the sazón packet (if not using annatto oil), Spanish Manzanilla olives, bay leaf, salt, and pepper. Stir the mixture to combine the ingredients.
  • When the mixture starts to bubble, add the corn kernels and rice. Thoroughly stir the mixture again to coat the rice and corn with color.
  • Slowly pour in the water (or chicken stock ), while stirring. Bring the ingredients to a rolling boil over high heat.
  • Allow it to boil undisturbed for 1 to 2 minutes, then stir the rice mixture again.
  • Reduce the heat to low and cover with the lid. Continue to cook over low heat for 20 minutes.
  • Remove the lid and fluff the rice.
  • Then cover again, remove from the heat, and let it sit about 5 minutes more. Remove and discard the bay leaf and serve.

1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
1/2 lb ham, chopped
1/2 cup sofrito sauce
1 sazon goya con culantro y achiote
15 1/2 ounces pink beans, undrained
2 cups rice, preferably long grain
2 cups chicken broth
1/2 cup roasted red pepper, chopped
1 bay leaf
1 teaspoon dried oregano, crushed
1 tablespoon green olives

Steps:

  • In a medium sized pot heat olive oil and add ham. Cook until browned.
  • Add sofrito and simmer over medium heat for 2 or 3 minutes.
  • Add all remaining ingredients, mixing thorougly.
  • Taste broth for reseasoning, if necessary. It should be very slightly on the salty side being that the rice will absorb most of the seasoning.
  • Cover. Cook over medium low heat for about 25 minutes. Stir, cover and cook for an additional 15 minutes.

1 tablespoon olive oil
½ cup sofrito
2 cloves garlic, chopped
1 (1.41 ounce) package sazon seasoning with achiote
½ tablespoon adobo seasoning
2 cups medium-grain white rice
2 cups chicken broth
1 ½ cups water
1 (15 ounce) can gandules (pigeon peas), drained and rinsed
2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro

Steps:

  • Heat olive oil over medium heat in a medium-sized caldero or nonstick pan. Stir in sofrito, garlic, sazon, and adobo; cook for 4 minutes, making sure not to burn garlic. Stir in rice until coated well; pour in chicken broth and water and stir once more.
  • Bring mixture to a boil and cook over medium-high heat until all liquid has been absorbed and rice looks like it has little holes throughout, 20 to 25 minutes. Reduce heat to low. Stir in peas and cilantro gently from bottom to top, once or twice only. Cover and let sit for 10 minutes.
  • Turn off heat and let rice sit, uncovered, for 10 minutes more.

1/2 cup chopped lean ham
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup green bell pepper
1/2 cup chorizo sausage, optional
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 (19 ounce) can red kidney beans, rinsed
1 (8 ounce) can unsalted tomato sauce
1 tablespoon Tabasco sauce
2 cups uncooked white rice
1/2 teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • Over medium heat, heat oil in a large saucepan.
  • Add ham, chorizo, onion and green pepper, garlic and cumin.
  • Sauté until vegetables are tender.
  • Add beans, tomato sauce and Tabasco sauce.
  • Simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Add in remaining ingredients and 4 cups water.
  • Bring to boil.
  • Reduce heat, cover and simmer until rice is tender.
