PLUM SAUCE GLAZED HAM WITH SOY & SCALLION BUTTER ROASTED POTATOES

Plum Sauce Glazed Ham with Soy & Scallion Butter Roasted Potatoes image

This glazed ham recipe is about as simple as it gets. Just buy bone-in spiral ham, and mix together a glaze of plum sauce, a little honey, soy sauce, Dijon mustard, and a bit of five-spice powder for a slightly non-traditional twist on a holiday favorite.

Provided by Sarah

Categories     Pork

Time 2h45m

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 spiral sliced bone-in half ham ((about 10-12 pounds))
2/3 cup plum sauce ((for a milder flavor, substitute plum jam))
¼ cup honey
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1/2 teaspoon five spice powder
3 lbs Yukon gold potatoes ((scrubbed and cut into chunks))
olive oil
salt and pepper
2 teaspoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon butter ((melted))
2 scallions ((chopped))

Steps:

  • Place the ham flat-side down in a roasting pan, cover tightly in foil, and begin warming according to the package instructions. Mix together the plum sauce, honey, soy sauce, dijon, and five spice powder to make the glaze. Before the last 30 minutes of cooking, remove the foil and brush the glaze all over the ham. Roast for the last 30 minutes uncovered, basting the ham with more glaze halfway through.
  • Meanwhile, toss the potatoes on a baking sheet in olive oil and season lightly with salt and pepper (Not too much! Remember, you'll be tossing it in soy sauce, which is also salty). Roast the potatoes for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally to get them to brown evenly. Toss the potatoes in the soy sauce, melted butter, and scallions. Serve alongside the ham!
  • Note: This recipe obviously is easier if you have a double oven, but it can be done with one oven by allowing the ham to rest, covered, after it's baked. During that time, you can roast the potatoes and serve everything together once they're done!

Sweet-Hot Plum-Glazed Ham Recipe image

If you're looking for a new glaze for your Easter ham, give this sweet and spicy recipe a try. Garnish your ham with tropical fruits like pineapple and kiwi to complete the plate.

Provided by Southern Living Editors

Time 3h53m

Yield Makes 10 servings

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 cup plum preserves
1/2 cup orange juice
2 tablespoons lime juice
1 tablespoon yellow mustard
1 tablespoon honey
2 teaspoons minced fresh ginger
1/2 teaspoon dried crushed red pepper
1 (7-lb.) smoked fully cooked, bone-in ham
Garnishes: pineapple, kiwifruit, green onions, black sesame seeds

Steps:

  • Stir together first 7 ingredients in a saucepan over medium-high heat; bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Reduce heat to medium-low; simmer, stirring constantly, 5 minutes or until preserves are melted and mixture is blended. Pour half of plum preserve mixture into a microwave-safe bowl.
  • Trim excess fat on ham to 1/8-inch thickness. If desired, make long, shallow cuts (about 1/16-inch deep) over entire ham, forming diamond patterns. Place ham on a wire rack in an aluminum foil-lined roasting pan. Brush ham with a portion of plum preserve mixture in saucepan.
  • Bake ham, uncovered, at 350° on lower oven rack 1 hour and 30 minutes, basting with remaining plum preserve mixture in saucepan every 30 minutes. Loosely cover with aluminum foil, and bake 1 hour and 45 minutes or until a meat thermometer inserted into the thickest portion registers 140°, basting every 30 minutes. Let ham stand 15 minutes before slicing. Garnish, if desired.
  • Microwave plum preserve mixture in bowl at HIGH 1 minute or until thoroughly heated. Serve ham with warm mixture.

PLUM-GLAZED GINGERED HAM

Plum-Glazed Gingered Ham image

Tossed aside my plans for a traditional ham when I found this recipe on Christmas Eve. It was worth the last minute run to the grocery store, and will become our ham for the holidays recipe for years to come. Served with recipe Lemony Green Beans (#201257) to offset the sweet glaze and gravy from this ham. Since it was just the two of us this year, I opted for the small boneless ham, and halved the recipe and it was great, but I really do think we'll go for the bone-in ham in the future, as they tend to be a little less salty. Thanks to Taste of Home for this recipe.

Time 2h20m

Yield 8-10 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 (12 ounce) jars plum preserves
2 tablespoons lime juice
1 tablespoon lime zest
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
2 tablespoons gingerroot, grated (or substitute refrigerated brand grated ginger)
3/4 teaspoon pepper
1 (5 -10 lb) ham, bone-in
2 tablespoons cornstarch, dissolved in water, for thickening

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 325°F.
  • Glaze: Combine first 6 ingredients in a saucepan, and bring to a boil, stirring constantly.
  • Place ham on rack (or on celery ribs, if you don't have a rack that fits) in shallow pan (I used a covered cast-iron pot with celery ribs to keep the ham off the bottom).
  • Score surface of ham, making diamond pattern around the ham, about 1/2 inch deep.
  • Spoon half of glaze over the ham.
  • Cover and bake at 325°F for approximately 90 minutes.
  • Remove drippings from pan and bake an additional 30 minutes (or until temp reaches 140°F), uncovered, basting 1-2 times with remaining glaze.
  • Gravy: Skim fat from drippings, and combine with dissolved flour or cornstarch, stirring until thick and smooth.
