1 1/2 to 2 sticks salted butter, cut into pieces, plus more for greasing
8 slices hearty wheat bread, diced
3 apples, preferably Granny Smith, peeled, cored and diced
1 1/2 packed cups brown sugar, plus more if needed

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Generously butter a 9-by-13-inch rectangular baking dish.
  • Place half the diced bread in the baking dish, and then sprinkle on half the diced apples, half the brown sugar and half the butter. Repeat with another layer of bread, apples, brown sugar and butter. End by sprinkling 1/2 cup water all over the surface, a spoonful at a time.
  • Bake, covered in foil, until the apples are tender, about 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 to 15 minutes to brown.

10 -12 baking apples, peeled, cored and sliced
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 1/4 cups flour
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 lb butter
2/3 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup hot water
1/2 lemon, juice of

Steps:

  • Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Arrange slices in the bottom of a lightly greased 12x9 pan.
  • Sprinkle with cinnamon.
  • Mix flour and brown sugar.
  • Cut in butter until crumbly and set aside.
  • Syrup: Combine ingredients and stir well.
  • Drizzle half of mixture over apples.
  • Cover with flour mix.
  • Pour remaining syrup over top.
  • Bake at 350 for one hour.

15 graham crackers, crumbled
3 cups crushed pineapple
1/2 cup light brown sugar
1 teaspoon grated lemon, rind of
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
4 tablespoons butter

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400°.
  • Layer 1/3 of graham cracker crumbs in bottom of a greased 1½ quart baking dish.
  • Add half the pineapple.
  • Mix together sugar thru cinnamon and sprinkle half over pineapple.
  • Repeat crumb and pineapple layers and sprinkle with remaining sugar mixture.
  • Dot with butter.
  • Bake approximately 30 minutes until the top is brown and crusty.
  • Serve hot or cold with whipped cream, if desired.

I have been making this since I was a young girl. Always been a favorite of mine and others. I got this out of an old cookbook by Betty Crocker.

1 lb hamburger
1/2 cup dry breadcrumbs
1/4 cup milk
2 tablespoons finely chopped onions
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 egg
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 (13 ounce) can pineapple chunks
1/3 cup vinegar
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 small green pepper, chopped

Steps:

  • Meat Balls.
  • Mix meat ball ingredients well and shape into balls.
  • Cook over medium heat, turning occasionally until brown, about 20 minutes.
  • OR bake in an ungreased oblong pan (13x9x2 inches), in 400 degree Fahrenheit oven until light brown, 20-25 minutes.
  • Drain fat from meat balls.
  • Sweet& Sour Sauce.
  • Mix brown sugar and cornstarch in pan.
  • Stir in pineapple (with syrup), vinegar and soy sauce.
  • Heat to boiling, stirring constantly, reduce heat to simmer.
  • Add meat balls.
  • Cover, simmer, stirring occasionally, 10 minutes.
  • Stir in green peppers.
  • Cover, simmer until green peppers are crispy-tender, about 5 minutes.

2 T lemon juice

1 t vanilla
1 T lemon juice

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350°F.
  • In large bowl, beat dry angel food cake mix and crushed pineapple on low speed 30 seconds; beat on medium speed 1 minute. Pour into ungreased 10-inch tube pan.
