Provided by Elaine Lemm

Categories     Beverage     Cocktail

Time 8m

Yield 4

Number Of Ingredients 7

Ice (to fill the jug)
200 milliliters Pimm's No. 1
600 milliliters carbonated lemonade (chilled)
1 sprig mint leaves
1 small cucumber (sliced, peel on)
1 medium orange (sliced, peel on)
1/2 cup strawberries (washed, hulled, and halved)

Steps:

  • Gather the ingredients.
  • Fill a glass jug with ice.
  • Mix the Pimm's with the chilled lemonade in the jug with ice. For a single serving, go with one part of Pimm's per three parts of lemonade.
  • Lightly crush the mint in your hand to release the scent and oils, and add it to the Pimms along with the cucumber slices, orange slices, and strawberry quarters. The rule of thumb is to add 2 slices of cucumber to one of orange and strawberry, but add as much or as little as you'd like to achieve the fruity flavor of your liking.
  • Stir with a long-handled spoon and serve in tall glasses with ice.

ENGLISH PIMM'S ON THE LAWN - PIMMS NO.1 CUP COCKTAIL

English Pimm's on the Lawn - Pimms No.1 Cup Cocktail image

The last time I had a glass of Pimm's with all the trimmings, was on the lawn at a lovely old Elizabthan Hall, on a beautiful English summer's evening......so, I named my cocktail, Pimm's on the Lawn!! Nothing beats a glass of Pimms on a summers day. The British beverage is almost as much a tradition as the cup of tea, and the British down the gin-based drink by the gallon during the summer months. A history of Pimms: Step back to a London oyster bar in the 1840s where owner James Pimm invented the thirst-quencher. Using gin, quinine and a secret mixture of herbs, good old Pimm served up the brew as an aid to digestion, dishing it out in a small tankard and the No. 1 Cup moniker was born. After the Second World War, Pimms extended their range, using a number of other spirits as bases for new cups. Scotch lent its name to No. 2 cup, whilst No. 3 used brandy, No. 4 rum, No. 5 rye and No. 6 vodka. Of all of these, the vodka cup is the only one in production along with the original No. 1 cup, which still reigns supreme in popularity. Cheers!

TRADITIONAL PIMM'S CUP (A.K.A.) PIMM'S AND GINGER

Traditional Pimm's Cup (a.k.a.) Pimm's and Ginger image

A favorite warm-weather drink, this is light, crisp, and refreshing. Excellent for guests as it's not too alcoholic. The story of Pimm's: Created by James Pimm in his 1820's Oyster Bar. Pimm began to market it ready-mixed in 1859, such was its popularity. It was taken as a digestive tonic, due to the high level of quinine and the mash of herbs involved in its production. Fashionable society began to drink Pimm's as a cocktail during the later part of the 19th century, partially for the alcoholic lift and partially because it was weak enough to be drunk all afternoon. Try serving it as a punch, with lemon and lime slices floating in the punch bowl.
