2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 cup KRAFT Shredded Low-Moisture Part-Skim Mozzarella Cheese
3 Tbsp. KRAFT Grated Parmesan Cheese

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350°F.
  • Cut bread lengthwise in half. Place, cut sides up, in shallow pan.
  • Mix margarine and garlic until blended; spread onto bread. Sprinkle with cheeses.
  • Bake 15 min. or until mozzarella is melted. Cut each bread half crosswise into 6 slices. Serve warm.

1 1/2 sticks (12 tablespoons) unsalted butter
4 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 large soft Italian or French loaf
1/4 cup grated Parmesan
Kosher salt
2 tablespoons flat-leaf parsley leaves, finely chopped

Steps:

  • Arrange a rack in the center of oven and preheat to 450 degrees F.
  • Melt the butter in a small skillet over medium heat. Add the garlic and cook, stirring occasionally, until the butter is golden and the garlic is very fragrant, about 3 minutes.
  • Slice the bread in half lengthwise. Liberally brush the crust with the garlic butter. Turn the bread cut-side up. Slice each loaf crosswise at 2-inch intervals without cutting all the way through, making "pull-apart" garlic bread. Liberally brush the cut sides of the bread with more garlic butter, spreading any remaining garlic evenly over top. You should use all the garlic butter. Carefully transfer the bread to a rimmed baking sheet.
  • Sprinkle the loaves with the Parmesan and a pinch of salt and bake until the edges of the bread are a deep golden brown, 10 to 15 minutes. Top with the parsley. Serve warm.

1 Tbs. extra-virgin olive oil
2 large cloves garlic, very finely minced or grated on a rasp-style grater
1 tsp. finely grated lemon zest
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
1 medium loaf artisan-style bread with a tight crumb (I like wide bâtard shapes, not baguettes)

Steps:

  • Heat the oven to 425°F.
  • In a food processor or a large bowl, combine the butter, Parmigiano, oil, garlic, lemon zest, 1/4 tsp. salt, and 1/8 tsp. pepper. Pulse a few times to blend but don't overprocess or the butter might separate. If mixing by hand, mash together with a fork or a wooden spoon.
  • Slice the bread 1 inch thick, cutting almost but not all the way through the bottom crust, so it's easy to pull apart. Spread a light, even coating of the butter mixture on both sides of each slice of bread. (You may not need all the butter; refrigerate any leftover for up to a week or freeze for up to three months.) Wrap the bread in foil and put the loaf on a baking sheet to catch any butter that runs out. 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
2 tablespoons finely chopped flat-leaf parsley
1 (15") loaf Italian bread (about 3 1/2" wide)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F with rack in middle.
  • Mince and mash garlic to a paste with a rounded 1/4 teaspoon salt using a heavy knife.
  • Stir together butter, oil, and garlic paste in a bowl until combined well; stir in parsley.
  • Halve loaf horizontally and divide butter mixture between halves, spreading it evenly.
  • Divide cheese between halves and spread it in an even layer.

I decided that was rather ridiculous and it's not that tasty, so I decided to make my own. This is what I came up with and it's very simple, but one of the best breads I've served. Add more or less garlic to suit your own tastes.

1/2 cup butter
1/2 teaspoon minced garlic

NOTE - no garlic was listed in the ingredients or mentioned in the instructions so would suggest if you wish to add I think 2 to 4 cloves of roasted garlic minced through the mix would add a lovely flavour to the dish, though if your garlic is sweet you could add raw but I find a lot of people are not keen on the flavour of raw garlic in dishes.

1 1/4 cups water (room temp to warm, not ice cold)
2 teaspoons yeast (or one packet)
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
1 tablespoon garlic, minced
3 1/4 cups bread flour (my favorite is still King Arthur)
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon Italian herb seasoning, blend (or 1 t each of basil, thyme and rosemary)
1 teaspoon sea salt
1 teaspoon black pepper, cracked
1/4 cup parmesan cheese
1 tablespoon oil
1 egg
1 tablespoon water
1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional)

Steps:

  • In a bowl or large measuring cup combine the water, sugar and yeast. Stir to mix. Set aside for about 10 minutes.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, herbs, salt, pepper and Parmesan. Stir to mix.
  • Add the oil and the garlic to the yeast-water mix. Stir to mix.
  • Add the liquids to the dry ingredients. Stir to mix thoroughly. A dough ball will form.
  • Knead dough in bowl or lightly floured surface for about 8 minutes.
  • When finished kneading, coat all sides of the ball of dough with the 1T extra olive oil. Let rest in a draft free place (inside the oven will work) for about 1 1/2 to 2 hours -- until the dough has doubled in volume.
  • After that, 'punch down' the dough and knead briefly.
  • Form into loaf, place in baking pan (I line the pan with parchment paper so it doesn't stick to the pan) and let rest again for about 40 - 50 minutes.
  • Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Combine egg and water by whisking with fork. This is your 'egg wash'.
  • Using a soft basting brush or pastry brush, paint loaf with egg wash. If you are using the sesame seeds, sprinkle them on top now. Make 1 long superficial slice down the middle of the loaf or 4 diagonal slices.
  • Bake for about 33 - 35 minutes. Bread is done when it sounds hollow when tapped.
  • Enjoy with Italian foods, as toast or later on, dry and use as croutons.

Stir in the Parmesan, parsley, lemon zest, red pepper flakes, 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt, and 1/2 teaspoon black pepper.
  • Slice the baguette in half lengthwise and place both halves, cut sides up, on a cutting board. Score each half diagonally (don't cut all the way through) in large serving-size pieces. Spoon all of the garlic mixture generously on the cut sides of the bread. Cut each half of the baguette in half crosswise along a score and place the 4 pieces on a sheet pan lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake for 5 to 7 minutes, until the topping is bubbly and starting to brown and the bread is crisp. Transfer to a board, cut in serving pieces along the scores, sprinkle with fleur de sel, and serve warm.

This cheesy garlic bread is to-die-for! It will have your family begging for seconds and it is unlikely you'll have leftovers. Whether you serve this as a side with dinner or bring it to a party as an appetizer or pot luck contribution, this recipe is an absolute hit!

1 loaf Italian bread
2 heads garlic
2 tbsp olive oil
8 tbsp unsalted room temperature butter
1/2 tsp sea salt (more or less to taste)
1/2 tsp ground black pepper (more or less to taste)
1/4 cup chopped flat leaf Italian parsley
1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup shredded parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Peel the outer layers of the whole head of garlic. Making sure to leave the garlic cloves intact.
  • Use a sharp knife and cut the top 1/4 of the head of garlic. You want to be able to expose the garlic. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Cover with aluminum foil. Bake for 40 minutes. Set aside to cool.
  • Once the garlic is cool enough to handle, squeeze in a large mixing bowl. Add room temperature butter, parsley, parmesan cheese, salt and pepper. Mix until smooth.
  • Make 1/2 inch wide cuts in your bread. Make sure to cut about 90% of the way down, leaving the bottom of the bread connected. Spread compound butter in between the slices, and across the top of the crust. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese on top of the bread and cover with aluminum foil.
  • Set your oven to 400 degrees F and bake the loaf for 35-40 minutes.
  • Remove from the oven and serve warm. You can cut through the bottom of the bread with a knife or pull off a slice with your hands!
