TAHINI CAROB SHAKE (GLUTEN & DAIRY FREE)

Tahini Carob Shake (Gluten & Dairy Free) image

Yummy, yummy and pretty healthy too. With ingredients both used in Cypriot and Greek cooking. The scientific name of the carob tree is 'Ceratonia siliqua' derived from the Greek word 'keration' which means horn as the shape of the pod itself. In Cyprus, another common name is 'terratsi', a word that is probably derived from its Latin scientific name, Ceratonia. Carob is also referred to as St John's bread following the legend that St' John the Baptist was feeding on the pods of this tree while in the desert. I made this up when I wanted the taste of Carob in a cold drink that was also dairy free.

GREEN MANGO SMOOTHIE (RAW VEGAN)

Green Mango Smoothie (Raw Vegan) image

(LFRV) This is a quick delicious way to get some greens in and ensure all the iron is absorbed properly thanks to the Vit C in the mangoes. The spinach amount is a starting point and you can always increase it if your tastebuds will allow. You can also switch the water out for coconut water if that's something you do. ENJOY!

Time 12h30m

Yield 3 loaves, 16 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 cups golden flax seeds
1 cup almonds, soaked for 12-48 hours
1 cup raisins, soaked 4-6 hours (I forgot to soak mine and it still came out okay)
2 apples, grated (I was lazy and just chopped mine into little tiny pieces)
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 tablespoon cinnamon (I suggest adding a lot more if you like the taste of cinnamon)
1 teaspoon celtic sea salt

Steps:

  • Grind flax seeds in a blender or coffee grinder (do not over grind them--the thicker the mixture, the better the bread).
  • Process almonds to a meal in the blender.
  • Process the raisins in a blender until smooth, adding some of the raisin soak water to blend.
  • Combine the flax, almonds, and raisins in a mixing bowl, then add grated apples, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt. Mix well.
  • Form into 3 loaves about 4 by 8 by 1 inch and dehydrate at 105 degrees for 12 to 14 hours.

SWEET BANANA-CAROB SHAKE

Sweet Banana-Carob Shake image

I invented this one morning when I was just dying to combine these ingredients... worked very well, I must say. It's best if you give it 1/2 hour or so in the freezer so it gets more like ice cream than a thick drink.

Categories     Smoothies

Time 25m

Yield 2 cups, 2 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 medium bananas, frozen
1 cup cold vanilla-flavored soymilk or 1 cup plain soymilk
1 tablespoon carob powder, sifted
4 soft dates (I used Parnoosh dates)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract, to taste

Steps:

  • If dates have been refrigerated, warm them a bit in the microwave, to make softer and easier to blend.
  • Slice the frozen bananas, this helps out your blender :-).
  • Combine all ingredients in a food processor or blender, and blend till very smooth (you'll have visible flecks of date skin but who cares).
  • Pour into 2 mugs and let them sit in the freezer for 20-60 minutes.
  • Enjoy your freezy treat!
