MILLION-DOLLAR FUDGE A FAVORITE RECIPE OF FIRST LADY MAMIE EISEN
A window into the social scene of the nation's capital. First lady Mamie Eisenhower was invited to be the guest of honor at the Arlington Republican Women's Club luncheon held on Dec. 12, 1967, at the Washington Golf and Country Club. She could not attend, but she made arrangements to have a foil-wrapped square of this fudge for each luncheon guest. The Fudge Party Was a Hit.

MAMA'S MILLION-DOLLAR FUDGE
No other fudge I've tasted comes close to the smooth, chocolate taste of this recipe, which my mother-in-law introduced me to one Christmas (I've never been able to make it as good as she does, though). Since it makes such a large batch, I always save some for last-minute gifts. -Gloria Heidner, Elk River, Minnesota

RICH MILLION DOLLAR FUDGE
The only fudge my family eats around the holidays. For the marshmallow creme, we always get one large jar and one small, because you can never get all the marshmallow cleaned out in time. Also, this is at least a 2-person gig. usually it's my mom, brother, and me. not too sure on cooking time, I never pay attention. When I was younger, it felt like forever, but doesn't feel so long now. Servings depends on how big you cut the pieces. we usually do 1-inch square.

- Combine sugar, salt, butter and evaporated milk in a medium sized sauce pan and boil for 6 mins. When boiling, the sauce will expand 2 to 3 times so use a large enough sauce pan, keep stirring and be careful it gets very hot!
- In a large bowl, add chocolate bars (break into small pieces), chips, marshmallow cream and nutmeats (optional). Tip: I prepare this part before boiling the items in step 1 so that it's ready to go.
- Pour boiled syrup over chocolate, marshmallow and nutmeats and beat until chocolate is melted.
