A 50's staple if you lived in a quonset hut or fallout shelter and the nearest grocery store was 25 miles away. The ever beatifully outfitted and coiffed housewife would surely have these ingredients on hand! A piquant afterburn the likes of which cannot so much be described as experienced. A real treat for all risk-taking gourmands. You'll be belchin' Dixie!

1 cup Miracle Whip (NO substitutions)
1 cup marshmallow cream ("Jet Puff")
1 teaspoon powdered ginger (NOT fresh)
2 teaspoons fresh orange zest

Steps:

  • In serving bowl mix all ingredients together well. If fluff doesn't blend well, nuke a few seconds or set outside your fallout shelter overnight, loosely covered.
  • Refrigerate for at least an hour.
  • Use as a fruit dip-bananas, apples, cantaloupe; or for mortar.
  • *Be sure to use non-irradiated oranges for the zest.

This recipe is from my grandmother. She made it every summer till she passed away, and the thought of it always brings back fond memories. After she died I looked everywhere for it with no luck, until this last Easter when I was looking through my moms cookbooks (She was given all of my grandmothers books). Down on the bottom of a page I notice my grandmothers writing and it was this recipe that she had written in. What a gift! It makes me cry just writing about it. I'm so excited to be able to share it with others and help my grandmother's gift of cooking live on. Hope you like it!

1 cup milk
3 cups marshmallows
2 cups whipping cream (not pre-whipped)
1 (15 ounce) can crushed pineapple
2 cups graham cracker crumbs

Steps:

  • Scald milk. Add marshmallows and stir till melted. Let cool.
  • While mixture cools, whip cream.
  • Fold marshmallows and cream together.
  • Gently fold in drained pineapple.
  • Sprinkle 1-1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs on bottom of a 9 by 13 pan. Spread fluff over crumbs and sprinkle top with remaining crumbs.
  • Refrigerate till served.

Just Learned This recipe Came from the StageCoach in CookBook, and also from a restaurant in Columbia, Calif, & The Owner's grandfather's Diary dated back to 1934-1935. Needs to Chill and set for several Hrs. NO COOKING Required. No Baking. only 5 ingredients. Serves about 6 servings

1/2 lb - miniature marshmallows
1/2 C - chopped nuts
1/2 C - marachino cherry juice
1/4 C - chopped pineapple (fresh or canned) drained but not dry.
1/4 C - chopped marachino cherries
1/2 C - heavy whipping cream

Steps:

  • Soak the Marshmallows overnight in the Cherry Juice.
  • Whip cream, then Add to Marshmallow Mixture, with the Pineapple and nuts. Chill Several Hrs. (4 hrs at least) Serve in Dessert Dishes. (OPTIONAL) Top with a Marashino Cherry with a stem, and a Sprinkle of Chopped Nuts.
