Time 3h

Yield 12

Number Of Ingredients 15

1 ounce unsweetened chocolate, coarsely chopped
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup butter or margarine, at room temperature
1/4 cup solid vegetable shortening
1 1/4 cup sugar, PLUS"PLUS" means this ingredient in addition to the one on the next line, often with divided uses
1 tablespoon sugar
2 eggs
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon almond extract
1 tablespoon strong brewed coffee or water
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
fudge frosting (homemade or from a mix of your choice), if desired

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour two 8-inch round cake pans. Melt chocolate in top of a double boiler over hot (not boiling) water, stirring until smooth. Cool slightly. Combine flour, baking powder and salt on a sheet of waxed paper. Beat butter and shortening in a large bowl until smooth and creamy. Gradually add 1 1/4 cup sugar, beating until light and fluffy. Beat eggs, one at a time. Beat flour mixture alternately with milk into butter mixture, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Beat in the vanilla and almond extract. Spoon 1 cup batter into a small bowl. Stir in melted chocolate, remaining 1 Tbsp. sugar, coffee, cinnamon and baking soda. Spoon chocolate and vanilla batters in equal amounts in alternating blobs on each prepared pan. Using a knife or thin metal spatula, cut through batter to marbleize. Bake in heated 350 degrees F oven, 30-35 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pans on racks 10 minutes. Turn cakes out, invert top side up; cool completely. Place a cake layer, top side down, on a platter. Spread 1/2 cup fudge frosting over layer. Place remaining layer, topside up, on top. Spread a thin layer of frosting over sided and top of cake. Spread any remaining frosting over cake.

SPECIAL MARBLE FUDGE CAKE

Special Marble Fudge Cake image

Marble cake was one of the first cakes that I ever learned how to make, this is an adult version of the easy cake I made in brownies. I don't remember where I got this recipe from, it was on a hand written card in one of my cookbooks. I have been making this cake for at least 5 years. This cake gets better after it has sat for a day or two, so make in advance of occasion for best results. Store in an airtight container.

FUDGY MARBLED CHEESECAKE BROWNIES

Fudgy Marbled Cheesecake Brownies image

Combine two favorite desserts in these super fudgy hybrid bars. A wooden skewer makes the marbled effect easy, but you could also use a toothpick or the probe-end of a digital thermometer instead.

Provided by Food Network Kitchen

Categories     dessert

Time 3h45m

Yield 16 brownies

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 sticks (16 tablespoons) unsalted butter, plus more for buttering the foil
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (not Dutch process)
1/2 teaspoon fine salt
1 3/4 cup all-purpose flour (see Cook's Note)
4 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped
2 1/3 cups sugar
5 large eggs, at room temperature
12 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Position a rack in the middle of the oven and preheat the oven to 325 degrees F. Line a 9-by 13- inch baking pan with foil, leaving a 2-inch overhang on at least 2 sides. Butter the foil.
  • Whisk together the cocoa powder, salt and 1 1/2 cups of the flour in a medium bowl.
  • Melt the butter and chocolate, stirring frequently, in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Transfer to a bowl and let cool for 10 minutes. Whisk in 2 cups of the sugar and 4 of the eggs. Add the flour mixture, and stir to combine. Chill for 10 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, beat together the cream cheese, vanilla extract, remaining 1/3 cup sugar and 1 egg with an electric mixer in a large bowl on medium-high speed. Add the remaining 1/4 cup flour and beat until just combined.
  • Use 2 ice cream scoops or large spoons to drop alternating scoopfuls of the 2 batters into the prepared pan. (You will have more brownie batter than cheesecake batter and that's okay; just make sure to disperse the batters as evenly as possible.) Spread a couple of kitchen towels on your countertop. Gently drop the baking pan onto the countertop a few times until the batter evens out (the towels should catch the splatters).
  • Make the swirls: Drag a long wooden skewer through the batter, making sure the skewer reaches down to the bottom of the pan. This will marble the colors in a tie-dye effect. Tap the baking pan on the towels a few more times to smooth out the batter.
  • Bake the brownies, rotating about halfway through, until the top is set and the skewer inserted in the center of the brownies comes out with only a few moist crumbs, about 50 minutes.
  • Let the brownies cool completely in the pan set on a rack. Use the foil overhang to help lift them out of the pan. Cut into 16 pieces. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.

THE BEST MARBLE CAKE

The Best Marble Cake image

I found the recipe of the cake some time ago on Duncan Hines. While the icing comes from one of the books of BHG. It is the best marble cake I ever had. Made on several occasions for company, and they couldn't stop eating it.

Provided by Engineer in the Kit

Categories     Dessert

Time 1h

Yield 12 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 (18 ounce) box yellow cake mix
4 large eggs
3/4 cup sour cream
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/4 cup butter (I use I can't Believe it is not butter light)
1/2 cup sour cream
2 cups powdered sugar

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375.
  • Spray Bundt cake with non-stick.
  • Microwave chocolate with 20-30 sec intervals. Stir and repeat until most of the chocolate is melt but not all (usually takes 1 minute). I usually do not let it melt completely, which creates a nice effect in the cake.
  • Combine cake mix, eggs, vanilla extract, sour cream, vegetable oil, sugar and water. Beat on high for around 3 minutes.
  • Stir third of the batter into the melted chocolate, mix well.
  • Spread half of the vanilla batter in the pan, then the chocolate batter and then the rest of the vanilla batter. Swirl the batters with a butter knife to create the marble effect.
  • Bake for 35-40 minutes, cool for 20 minutes in pan, remove from pan and cool completely.
  • For the icing: melt the chocolate and butter (you can do this in the microwave as well, but be careful).
  • Cool the mix for 5-10 minutes, add sour cream and then the powdered sugar 1 cup at a time.
  • Spread the icing on the cake when it has cooled completely.
