MOM'S COLESLAW WITH A KICK
My mother developed this recipe for my father to enjoy while watching sports on T.V. We called sports day meals "indoor picnics". My father loved spicy foods (as do the rest of the family), so my mother kicked this up a notch with mustard seed and mustard powder. My parents had 10 children, and took in many others over the...

Steps:
- 1. Prepare the cabbage, carrots and onion as stated in ingredients. Put in a lage bowl or roast pan. Set aside.
- 2. Whisk together all remaining ingredients until well blended. Pour this over the vegetable mixture. Toss until all is well coated. Put into a large bowl and cover tightly. Put in refrigerator overnight to let the flavors meld. When ready to serve, stir it and taste it... if it isn't hot enough... add a bit more mustard seed and hot mustard powder (I buy it in bulk at food co-op) and toss well.

KICKED-UP COLESLAW
I've been lucky enough to live and travel a lot in Asia, and the most important lesson I try to take with me every day is not to be afraid of bold flavor. This dish is a perfect example of that. Yes, coleslaw is a somewhat ubiquitous and familiar side, but that doesn't mean it has to be boring. You can subtly change the flavors without alienating the traditionalists and make it more exciting for everyone. A coleslaw is just a cabbage salad, and if you skip the mayonnaise-based dressing, it's a blank canvas. With ginger, salt, and zesty lime, this dish is light and fresh and frames cabbage in a whole new way.

EASY COLESLAW WITH A KICK!
This is a recipe that gives regular old coleslaw a spicy kick. Very easy to make with great results! If you have never had wasabi, please, start out with a teaspoon and work your way up from there. Wasabi is Japanese horseradish and it is powerful stuff! But it sure does goes well with the rest of the ingredients.

Steps:
- Mix everything but the coleslaw together.
- Pay special attention to be sure the wasabi is well blended. A trick I learned that works very well, is to put all the ingredients but the coleslaw mix into a big ziploc bag, then squish, shake, and massage the ingredients into a nice smooth blend.
- Then add the coleslaw mix and the ingredients together in a large bowl and mix well.
- Cover and put it in the fridge for a couple hours to overnight to allow all the flavors to blend inches It will be soupy on the bottom, but the salad will be crisp.

A KICK IN COLESLAW
This is something that I get asked to make frequently. It my children's and husbands favorite. My four-year-old has been eating it since he has been eating since he has been two and constantly asks for seconds.

Steps:
- Shred your cabbage in a food processor or chop it by hand as I do. If you are going to chop it by hand make sure you cut it in half, then slice it. Once you have it sliced, chop it into smaller bits. We like the chunks.
- Put your cabbage in your bowl.
- Peel your garlic and put it through your garlic pressure. If you do not have one use your cheese grater one of the finer grates that will work just fine.
- Add it to the cabbage .
- Take the skin off of the ginger, and grate it directly into the bowl of cabbage.
- Add the mayonnaise depending on the size of cabbage you will want to add more or less.
- For the avocado, cut in half take the pit out. Scoop out the avocado and slice and chop into small pieces. add to the bowl.
- Mix it all together. Let sit for about 5 minutes before serving. This allows the flavours to set.
- Enjoy it, I hope your family likes it as much as we do. You can always play with the amount of garlic and ginger you put in it.
