ITALIAN SAUSAGE AND CARAMELIZED PIZZA

Italian Sausage and Caramelized Pizza image

A yeast free pizza dough topped with mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, Italian sausage and caramelized onions.

Provided by Janette

Categories     Pizza

Time 50m

Number Of Ingredients 13

For the dough:
½ cup (118 ml) warm water warmed to 100- 115 °F (38 - 46°C)
1 ½ teaspoons honey
1 teaspoon olive oil
1 ½ cups (192 grams) all-purpose flour
1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
¼ teaspoon salt
For the toppings:
4 ounces (113 grams) mozzarella
5 ounces (142 grams) cherry tomatoes, halved
3 sweet or spicy Italian sausages, removed from casing
Caramelized onions
Fresh basil, chopped

Steps:

  • For the dough:
  • To a bowl add the warm water, honey and olive oil. Mix until the honey is dissolved.
  • Add the flour, baking powder and salt to a large mixing bowl. While drizzling in the water, mix with a fork until the dough comes together. If it is too dry, add a little more water until it holds together to form a ball. You can switch to using your hands.
  • Flour your counter and turn out the dough. Knead, sprinkling lightly with flour so it doesn't stick to your hands. Knead for 3-4 minutes until the dough is no longer sticky.
  • Coat the mixing bowl with a little oil and put the dough back in the bowl and cover with a towel. Place in a warm place. This can be the microwave or oven (both turned off) for 30 minutes to allow the dough to rest after kneading and make it easier to roll and keep the dough tender. Remove from the oven after 30 minutes.
  • Position the oven rack on the top ¾ portion of the oven and preheat to 450°F/230°C.
  • Place the dough onto a 12-inch (31 cm) round pizza pan or large baking sheet. Use your hands to press into a pizza shape.
  • For the toppings:
  • Spread the mozzarella all over, top with the cherry tomatoes, crumble the Italian sausage all over and finish with an even layer of caramelized onions.
  • Bake for 20 until the crust is golden brown and the sausage is cooked.

VEGAN ITALIAN SAUSAGE CRUMBLES WITH TVP

Vegan Italian Sausage Crumbles with TVP image

Vegan Italian Sausage Crumbles are so easy to make and a great meat replacement for certain plant-based recipes. Made with Textured Vegetable Protein along with a mix of herbs and spices like ground fennel seeds, sage, thyme, and more, these veggie crumbles are the perfect addition to favorite savory plant-based recipes like chili, pasta sauce, pizza, and more. Low-fat, high in protein, and gluten-free.

Provided by Shane Martin

Categories     Vegan Side Dish Recipes

Time 15m

Number Of Ingredients 15

1 cup of water
1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce or 2 1/2 tablespoons Bragg's liquid aminos
1 tablespoon pure maple syrup
2 teaspoons liquid smoke
1/2 teaspoon blackstrap molasses (may be omitted, used primarily for color)
1 cup TVP (textured vegetable protein)
1/4 cup nutritional yeast
1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
2 teaspoons garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon ground sage
1 teaspoon ground fennel
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/8 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
salt to taste if needed

Steps:

  • Start by heating a non-stick skillet over medium heat.
  • In a small saucepan add all of the wet ingredients and bring to a boil.
  • While waiting for the water to boil, add the TVP with all of the other dry ingredients to a large bowl and mix together until well combined.
  • Pour the boiling water into the dry TVP mixture, and stir until everything is completely mixed. Let the mixture sit for about 5 minutes so all of the water can be absorbed. There may be a little moisture in the bottom of the pan but it will cook off once you add the mixture to the frying pan.
  • Pour the TVP crumbles into the frying pan, stirring occasionally, and cook until most of the moisture is gone. Usually about 2-3 minutes. The mixture will be more "chewy" like sausage and not crisp.
  • Taste and adjust any seasonings as needed.
  • Serve right away or store in an airtight container for later use.

  • Truffles. This is a popular type of food that is common in high-end restaurants. It upgrades all flavors of food no matter what recipe they might be because of its creamy texture.
  • Spicy Italian Salami. If you thought pepperoni pizza is great, then this one will blow your mind away. Often dubbed as the Devil Pizza, the Diavola pizza consists of a topping that will surely get you fired up.
  • Eggplant. Now, this is not the most common type of topping that you will see in a pizza and it certainly is not the most appealing but it is surprisingly good.
  • Burrata. If you are tired of the plain mozzarella cheese that you commonly find in pizzas, we recommend that you try its sister, the Burrata, which is lighter and softer.
  • Prosciutto. A truly authentic pizza topping, the Prosciutto is a delicious type of meat that will surely put the basic pepperoni, sausage, or chicken to shame with its flavor.
  • Tuscan Sausage. This is another pizza topping that will add a little spice in your mouth. Tuscan sausage is a sausage made out of pork and it has a little bit of spiciness in it.
  • Garlic. One of the most simple and healthiest toppings of all is garlic. It has a lot of health benefits and it actually tastes so good when combined with tomato sauce, pizza crust, and cheese.

WHAT ARE THE BEST CONDIMENTS & TOPPINGS ON PREMIO SAUSAGE?

From premiofoods.com
Estimated Reading Time 7 mins
  • Caramelized Onions. Caramelized onions offer the perfect combination of sweet and savory to take any quality sausage to the next level. If you like your onions on the sweeter side, use Vidalia onions instead of standard yellow onions.
  • Sauteed Peppers. Sauteed red, green and yellow peppers are a traditional and tasty choice to top Italian sausage, and they work well on nearly any type of sausage.
  • Mustard. Mustard is another one of the best condiments on sausage, and there are many kinds to choose from. Yellow mustard and spicy brown mustard are both classic options, but you can also try other types like dijon, beer mustard or whole grain mustard.
  • Ketchup. Let’s start with one of the most popular condiments in the U.S. — ketchup. Ketchup is an all-purpose condiment that works well when you want to keep it simple and enjoy the taste of a quality bratwurst.
  • Sauerkraut. Sauerkraut is a more controversial sausage topping, but for those who love it, nothing else can compete with the sharp tanginess it adds to a kielbasa or other sausage.
  • Russian Dressing. Russian dressing is known as the signature condiment on a Reuben sandwich, but it can be delicious on sausage, as well. Add some sauerkraut, and you’ll have yourself a Reuben-inspired sausage.
  • Pickle Relish. Pickle relish is a classic condiment on hot dogs, and it’s great on sausage, as well. Use it by itself or add it along with other toppings.
  • Jalapeño Peppers. If you like some heat with your sausage, try adding some jalapeño peppers. You can enjoy jalapeños either fresh or from a jar or can.
  • Cheese Sauce. No list of condiments for sausage would be complete without cheese. There are many types of cheese you could add to sausage, but one of the best and easiest ways to enjoy cheese as a sausage condiment is to drizzle cheese sauce over your sausage.
  • Chili. While you’re adding cheese, why not add some chili, as well? A sausage chili sandwich is a gourmet take on the all-American chili dog, so you can expect it to be a crowd-pleaser every time you serve it to your family or friends.

7 BEST SAUSAGE FOR PIZZA: PERFECT TYPES SELECTION
