PERFECT OVEN-COOKED BACON

Perfect Oven-Cooked Bacon image

This recipe differs from others in method - it produces bacon slices which are perfectly flat - better for sandwiches and some recipes which call for cooked bacon. You will not be using the 1/4 teaspoon water. Food.com will not let you upload a recipe that only has one ingredient, so I had to make up a second ingredient. I tried putting in "love" but it wouldn't let me. You should always be cooking with love, btw.

Provided by xtine

Categories     Breakfast

Time 25m

Yield 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 2

1 lb bacon
1/4 teaspoon water

Steps:

  • DO NOT pre-heat the oven.
  • You will not be using the 1/4 teaspoon water. I had to add it to the ingredients list because Food.com will not let you upload a recipe that only has one ingredient, so I had to make up a second ingredient.
  • Place the bacon in a single layer on a cold, rimmed baking sheet. If you like, you can line the pan with parchment paper to make clean-up easier, but I like to save my bacon grease to cook with, and the parchment makes it difficult to get it all out of the baking sheet, so I just leave the pan unlined.
  • Place the pan on the center rack of a cold oven. Set the oven to 400º.
  • Cook for 15 to 20 minutes. Very thin bacon will only take about 15 minutes, thick-cut bacon will take 20. After 15 minutes, keep an eye on the bacon to make sure it is not getting too brown.
  • Immediately remove the bacon to a plate lined with paper towels.
  • Blot the top of the bacon with paper towels to remove extra grease.
  • If you like, save the bacon grease in a heat-proof container. The grease can be stored in the fridge and used later in other recipes - you just got two products for the price of one :).

BACON IN THE OVEN

Bacon in the Oven image

Now you can make bacon in no time! It's easy, not messy at all and everyone loves it! Also there is no exact amount. It has a great smokey taste.

Provided by anichka20

Categories     Breakfast

Time 25m

Yield 6-8 bacon slices, 2-3 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 2

bacon
1 pinch black pepper

Steps:

  • First all you need to do is take the bacon and lay it down on any of the following, cookie sheet, parchment paper (not wax paper as the wax can melt and/or the paper can catch fire), or aluminum foil. We do this for an easy clean up but if you want just lay down on your baking pan. Then sprinkle the bacon with black pepper.
  • Next turn on your oven to 400 degrees fahrenheit.
  • Put your bacon in and wait about 15 min to check on it then as soon as the bacon is crispy brown or golden brown take it out and you're done!

  • Continue cooking the bacon in the oven for 8-10 more minutes. Depending on thickness the bacon will vary in how long it takes. I used thick cut bacon for mine.
  • Once the bacon is done, remove pan from the oven and place the baked bacon on a paper towel lined plate then serve and enjoy.

  • Heat the oven to 400°F and prepare the baking sheet. Arrange rack in the middle of the oven and heat the oven to 400°F. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil, making sure there is overhang on all 4 sides (overlap a few sheets if needed, this makes cleanup easier).
  • Arrange the bacon on the baking sheet. Arrange 12 ounces bacon on the baking sheet in a single layer. The slices can be close together or touching, but don't let them overlap or they'll stick together during cooking.
  • Bake the bacon. Bake until the bacon is deep golden-brown and crispy, about 14 minutes for regular bacon and 18 minutes for thick-cut bacon. Exact baking time will depend on the thickness of the bacon and how crispy you like it. Begin checking the bacon after 12 minutes. The bacon fat will sputter and bubble as the bacon cooks, but shouldn't splatter the way it does on the stovetop.
  • Transfer the bacon to a plate lined with paper towels. Use tongs to transfer the bacon to the paper towels to drain and finish crisping. Serve immediately.

  • Line a large baking sheet with aluminum foil (up the edges), and then lightly spray foil with non-stick baking spray.
  • Lay strips of uncooked bacon onto the foil in a single layer, leaving a bit of space between each slice. IMPORTANT: Place baking sheet into oven, and THEN turn the oven on to 400°F. THAT'S RIGHT! Don't preheat the oven!
  • Turn on the oven AFTER you add the bacon. Cook bacon slices at 400° for 15-20 minutes, without disturbing. Check them at 15 minutes, because due to varying thicknesses of bacon, cooking times can vary slightly. There is no need to turn the bacon over, or do anything else to it!
  • Once bacon is done cooking to your desired amount of "crispness", remove baking sheet from oven. Transfer cooked bacon to a couple layers of paper towels. The paper towels will absorb any extra bacon grease left on the bacon. Serve, and enjoy!

  • Grab a half sheet pan and cover it with either foil or parchment paper. If you plan to collect the bacon grease after the bacon is cooked, it's easier to pour it off of parchment paper.
  • Add the bacon slices to the pan, nestling them in closely together. The bacon shrinks a lot during cooking, so you don't need extra room around the individual slices.
  • Place the pan in the oven and cook for 15-20 minutes. The cook time will depend on the thickness of your bacon, but for standard medium cut bacon, 18 minutes is about perfect. If you like super crispy bacon, cook it an additional 2-3 minutes.

  • Unroll enough parchment paper to cover the base of the baking sheet, and then double it — so you have enough to cover the bacon strips as well.
  • Fold the excess parchment paper over the top of the bacon and tuck below the bottom layer. (The bacon will be in the middle, with parchment paper on the top and bottom of it.
  • Turn the oven on to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. (This seems to be the best temperature to bake bacon.)
  • Set the timer. (As mentioned above, the exact time will take some experimenting on your part. I generally set the timer for 15 minutes if I’m baking regular/thin bacon.
  • Once the timer goes off, remove baking sheet from the oven — then immediately open up the parchment paper and let it rest until the bacon stops sizzling.
  • Get a plate or cutting board, and place a couple sheets of paper towel on it. Use a spatula or tongs to lift and place the bacon onto the paper towel.
  • Place a few sheets of paper towel on top of the bacon, and press down — to absorb excess grease.

  • Prep That Bacon. Preheat the oven to 400F/205C, with the main rack in the middle position. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper, a silicone baking mat, or aluminum foil.
  • Cook That Bacon. Now place the pan of bacon in the oven and allow it to cook for 15 to 18 minutes until you have your desired crispiness. The thicker the cut of bacon the longer it will need, and of course the thinner the bacon the less time it will need.
  • Dry That Bacon. Once the bacon comes out of the oven, let it sit for a few minutes. Then use tongs to remove it and place it on a paper towel. Pat the bacon dry, which will soak up the excess grease.
  • Easy Cleanup. If you use parchment paper or foil, it allows for easy cleanup. You can also pour the excess grease into a can or mason jar and use it later, instead of throwing it out.
