1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
1/4 cup hoisin sauce
1 1/2 tablespoons minced fresh ginger
1 tablespoon chopped canned chipotle chilies
1 tablespoon golden brown sugar
4 8-ounce salmon steaks (each about 1 inch thick)
Vegetable oil

Steps:

  • Stir honey, cilantro, hoisin sauce, ginger, chilies and brown sugar in bowl to blend.
  • Preheat broiler. Brush salmon steaks with oil. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Brush with some of honey-ginger glaze. Broil salmon until opaque in center, basting occasionally with remaining glaze, about 4 minutes per side. Transfer salmon steaks to plates; serve.

I found this recipe from the "easy Chinese recipes" section of About.com and modified it slightly to my taste. It is easy, not too time consuming and very few ingredients are needed.

8 chicken wings
1/2 tablespoon honey
2 1/2 tablespoons hoisin sauce (substitute with barbeque sauce if not available)
3 tablespoons soy sauce or 3 tablespoons teriyaki sauce
1/4 teaspoon salt (one or two pinches)
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 garlic clove, minced
1/4 teaspoon fresh ginger, minced
3 -4 scallions, minced

Steps:

  • Mix mix the hoisin sauce, honey, soy/Chinese teriyaki sauce, salt, black pepper, ginger, garlic and scallion together. Marinate the chicken wings in this mixture for 15 minutes.
  • Heat oven to 350°F Put the chicken wings onto skewers, two per skewer, and put on a baking tray or cookie sheet. Bake for 30-35 minutes, basting occasionally with the marinade.
  • Change oven setting to "broil" and broil for 5-8 minutes, changing sides and basting occasionally to prevent the chicken from burning.
  • Take out from the oven; remove from the skewers and serve.
  • Tip: Skewers aren't necessary, I just use skewers because basting is easier and there's lesser chances of the chicken skin getting stuck to the tin foil on the baking tray or cookie sheet.
  • Suggestion: I put in a tiny bit of extra-hot pepper paste when I make this for my boyfriend because he likes doesn't like anything too sweet. In case you don't have that, just increase the black pepper or use cayenne pepper instead.

  • Preheat broiler. Mix hoisin sauce, honey and pineapple juice., Place salmon in a foil-lined 15x10x1-in. baking pan. Broil 4-5 in. from heat 12-14 minutes or until fish just begins to flake easily with a fork. Baste occasionally with 1/4 cup hoisin mixture during the last 6 minutes of cooking. These wings are delicious after being brined and marinated, then baked and broiled. After putting chicken in the bag with the brine, I store in the refrigerator in a leak-proof bowl to avoid a possible mess! My favorite shortcut is to use the jars of prepared garlic and ginger to speed up the recipe.

2 cups water
½ cup salt
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
2 pounds chicken wings
¼ cup hoisin sauce
3 teaspoons honey
1 tablespoon chopped garlic
1 tablespoon chopped ginger
¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper
2 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds

Steps:

  • Combine water and salt in a large resealable plastic bag. Add garlic powder, ground ginger, and black pepper. Add chicken wings. Remove excess air and seal bag. Place in the refrigerator for 2 hours. Remove chicken from brine and drain in a colander. Rinse and pat dry.
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a broiling pan.
  • Combine hoisin sauce, honey, garlic, chopped ginger, and crushed red pepper in a large bowl. Add chicken and mix well to coat. Let sit while you toast sesame seeds.
  • Heat a nonstick pan over medium heat and add sesame seeds. Shake and cook until lightly toasted, 1 to 3 minutes. Transfer to a plate lined with a paper towel to cool.
  • Transfer wings to the prepared broiling pan, reserving sauce in the bowl.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, basting every 10 minutes with reserved sauce. Remove wings from the oven and baste again with sauce.
  • Set an oven rack about 6 inches from the heat source and turn on the oven's broiler. Broil wings until slightly charred, 2 to 3 minutes per side.
  • Serve topped with toasted sesame seeds.

1 teaspoon grated orange zest
½ teaspoon cayenne pepper

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

3 1/2 pounds pork of spareribs, halved crosswise, preferably by a butcher, and cut into individual ribs
1/3 cup honey
1/4 cup soy sauce
1 large garlic clove, minced and mashed to a paste with 1/4 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup hoisin sauce
1/2 teaspoon English-style dry mustard
1/4 cup distilled white vinegar

Steps:

  • In a kettle of boiling salted water simmer the ribs, covered, for 30 minutes and drain them well. In a large bowl whisk together the honey, the soy sauce, the garlic paste, the hoisin sauce, the mustard, the vinegar, and black pepper to taste, add the ribs, and toss the mixture well, coating the ribs thoroughly. Let the ribs marinate, chilled, for at least 1 hour or overnight.
  • Remove the ribs from the marinade, arrange them in one layer on the oiled rack of a foil-lined broiler pan, and broil them under a preheated broiler about 4 inches from the heat, basting them with the marinade, for 3 minutes. Turn the ribs with tongs and broil them, basting them with the marinade, for 2 to 3 minutes more, or until they are browned well and glazed. Discard the marinade.

4 bone-in chicken thighs (about 1-1/2 pounds)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400°. Place potatoes and onion in a greased 13x9-in. baking pan. In a small bowl, mix hoisin, honey, 1/4 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon pepper; add to potato mixture and toss to coat., Place chicken over vegetables; sprinkle with remaining salt and pepper.
