45 Oreo cookies, divided (1 package)
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
2 (8 ounce) packages semisweet baking chocolate, melted

Steps:

  • Crush 9 of the cookies to fine crumbs in a food processor; reserve for later use. (This can also be done in a resealable bag with a rolling pin.).
  • Crush the remaining 36 cookies to fine crumbs and place in a medium bowl.
  • Add the cream cheese and mix until well blended.
  • Roll cookie mixture into 42 balls, about 1" in diameter.
  • Dip the balls in the melted chocolate and place them on a wax paper covered baking sheet. (Any left over chocolate can be stored at room temperature for another use.).
  • Sprinkle the tops of the truffles with the reserved cookie crumbs.
  • Refrigerate until firm, about 1 hour.
  • Store leftover truffles, covered, in the refrigerator.

1 lb Oreo cookies (3 sleeves)
8 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (using different extracts allows for subtle flavour changes...I've used mint extract, upped to 1 tsp) (optional)
1 lb milk chocolate
1/2 lb white chocolate

Steps:

  • Using a food processor, grind cookies to a fine powder. With a mixer, blend cookie powder, cream cheese and vanilla extract until thoroughly mixed (there should be no white traces of cream cheese).
  • Roll into small balls and place on wax-lined cookie sheet. Refrigerate for 45 minutes.
  • Line two cookie sheets with wax paper. In double-boiler, melt milk chocolate. Dip balls and coat thoroughly. With slotted spoon, lift balls out of chocolate and let excess chocolate drip off. Place on wax-paper-lined cookie sheet.
  • In separate double boiler, melt white chocolate. Using a fork, drizzle white chocolate over balls. Let cool.
  • Store in airtight container, in refrigerator.
  • Note: When I am exceedingly lazy (most often the case these days), I forego the chocolate 'dip' and merely roll my truffles into various mixtures - chopped nuts, chocolate sprinkles, vari-coloured candy sprinkles, cocoa powder, chocolate shavings, coloured sugars -- still pretty -- less work.

Oreo Truffles are so easy to make and are a great no bake seasonal, holiday or birthday dessert. The super soft truffle center with fan favorite Golden Oreo's are coated in melty chocolate making the crunch (and the calories!) so satisfying. These Oreo balls are also easy to make in any other Oreo flavor making variations a snap!

4 ounces cream cheese (softened)
16 golden oreos
1 teaspoon vanilla (Optional)
4 ounces chocolate

Steps:

  • Add cookies to a food processor and process for 10 seconds until fine crumbs form. Add softened cream cheese and vanilla extract. Process for an additional 10 seconds until dough turns into a ball.
  • Set out a baking sheet with parchment paper. Check to make sure baking sheet will fit in freezer and make space. Use a ta
  • Use a tablespoon-size portion scoop (or cookie scoop) to measure dough into balls and shape with hands to smooth.
  • Freeze Oreo Truffles for 30 minutes to harden and firm dough before going to the chocolate step.
  • Microwave chocolate for 90 seconds at 50% power, stirring every 15-20 seconds until melted. Other melting methods below. If your chocolate is too thick, add a tiny amount (1/2 tsp) to your chocolate and mix until smooth.
  • Dip balls into dipping chocolate and toss to coat. Let excess chocolate drip off. Place balls onto lined baking sheet and continue till all are done.
  • Sprinkle truffles with decorate sprinkles while still wet.
  • Freeze oreo truffles to harden chocolate, approx 20 minutes.
  • Keep stored in air tight container in fridge. Tuffles should keep up to 2 weeks in fridge or 2 months in freezer.

38 chocolate sandwich cookies, such as Oreos, broken into large pieces
1 8-ounce package cream cheese, at room temperature
8 oz. white chocolate, chopped
8 oz. bittersweet chocolate, chopped
Sprinkles or nonpareils, for garnish

Steps:

  • Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper. Add the sandwich cookies to a food processor and pulse to make fine crumbs. Add the cream cheese and pulse until completely combined and almost pasty.
  • Scoop and roll the cookie mixture into 1-inch balls; you should have about 36. Refrigerate until chilled, about 30 minutes.
  • Melt the white and bittersweet chocolates separately in double-boilers set up over low heat, 3 to 4 minutes. Stir until smooth and let cool slightly. Using a fork, dip half of the balls in the bittersweet chocolate and place on a prepared baking sheet; repeat with the remaining balls and the white chocolate. Let set for a few minutes, then drizzle the tops with contrasting chocolate or top with sprinkles or nonpareils, if desired. Refrigerate until the chocolate is set, about 10 minutes. Store in a tightly sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

  • Using your hands, pinch off some of the cold dough and roll into balls about 1.25 inch in diameter. (Not too big, not too small.) I laid out all my rolled balls on a cookie sheet lined with a Silpat but you could also use parchment paper. Place back into the fridge to chill while you prepare the chocolate coating.
  • In a double boiler (I use a metal mixing bowl over a small saucepan of water) gently melt the bag of chocolate chips.
