The Best Buttercream Frosting really lives up to it's name, it definitely is the best we've ever tried and so easy to make. This Buttercream Frosting will make anything you put it on taste better - we promise!

4 cups Powdered Sugar (or 1 pound)
1 cup Butter (Softened Salted Sweet Cream)
2-3 teaspoons Vanilla
1-2 tablespoons Milk
Decorating Bags
Wilton 2D Decorating Tip
Mixer

Steps:

  • Add softened butter and vanilla to the mixing bowl and mix until completely combined.
  • Add Powdered Sugar and beat on low until it is incorporated. Then move mixer up to medium-high speed. Scrape sides and bottom of bowl often. When completely mixed the frosting may appear dry.
  • Add milk a little bit at a time until frosting is the proper consistency.

Here's the perfect frosting for Grandma's Devil's food cake or almost any cake. Peaks of this white frosting crowns a cake in regal fashion.

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 egg white
1 1/2 c sugar
dash of salt
1/3 c water
2 tsp light corn syrup
1 tsp vanilla

Steps:

  • 1. Combine egg whites, sugar, salt, water, and corn syrup in a double boiler. Beat 1 minute or until thoroughly mixed
  • 2. Then place over boiling water and beat constantly at high speed of electric mixer or with a rotary beater for 7 minutes until frosting will stand in stiff peaks. Stir frosting up from bottom and sides of pan occasionally.
  • 3. Remove from boiling water and pour at once into a large bowl Add vanilla and beat 1 minute until thick enough to spread.
  • 4. Makes about 4 1/2 cups enough to cover tops and sides of two 8 or 9 inch layers or a 10 inch tube cake.

2 cup(s) sugar
2 tablespoon(s) corn syrup, light
3 ounce(s) chocolate ( squares )
1/2 cup(s) milk
2 tablespoon(s) butter

Steps:

  • Cook sugar, and corn syrup and chocolate squares and milk on low to midume heat (232 degrees ) or until a small amount of syrup forms a very soft ball when dropped into cold water.
  • Remove from heat, add vanilla and butter. Cool to lukewarm without stirring.
  • Beat until creamy and thick enough to spread. This will cover two ( 8" ) layers top and sides.

  • Mix in peanut butter and enough milk to make spreading consistency.

1/2 cup butter (melted)
1 tablespoon butternut flavoring
1 (16 ounce) box confectioners' sugar
8 ounces cream cheese (softened)
1 cup chopped pecans (optional)

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients in order (butter, flavoring, sugar, cream cheese, then pecans).
  • Mix well.
  • Use to frost pound cake or bake cake in 3 layers and frost the butternut pound cake.

This is a a breakfast treat, it takes a little time, but worth the wate. You could always make it your own by changing the honey topping to cinnamon , raisins, sugar topping. In my Grandma's time honey twist was a unexpected treat.

1 c milk scaled
1/4 c shortening
1/2 c sugar
1 tsp salt
2 cakes of yeast
1/4 c lukewarm water
2 eggs beaten
5-6 c sifted flour
HONEY TOPPING
1/4 c butter
2/3 c confectioners sugar
1 egg white
2 Tbsp warm honey

Steps:

  • 1. Crumble yeast in a bowl with lukewarm water to soften.
  • 2. Pour scalded milk over shortening, sugar,and salt. Cool milk mixture to luckwarm , add yeast and eggs. Beat in flour to make a soft dough.
  • 3. Turn out onto a floured board and knead until smooth. Place in a large greased bowl cover, and let stand to rise until double in size.
  • 4. When light shape into a long roll about 1 " in diameter. Coil the roll into a greased cake pan begining at the outside edge and working into the center to cover the pan.
  • 5. Brush with honey topping and let stand to rise until doubled in size. Bake at 375 degrees for 25-30 minutes. It makes one large twist

My Grandma was a great baker. She made the most delicious frosting for her cakes. I could never quite get why my frosting never tasted like hers. Years later I found this recipe in her handwriting and it had coffee in it. I'm not a coffee drinker, but boy was this frosting delicious. The recipe is actually for 3 variations: white, chocolate or mocha.

1/4 lb butter, softened
1 1/2-2 cups powdered sugar
2 -3 tablespoons milk or 2 -3 tablespoons cold coffee
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon cocoa powder (optional)

Steps:

  • Cream butter and sugar together. Slowly add enough milk to make the frosting spreadable. Add the vanilla. Adjust milk and powdered sugar until desired consistency.
  • For chocolate icing, add the cocoa powder.
  • For mocha icing, delete the milk and add cocoa and cold coffee.

This is one of my Grandmothers recipes that can be changed to a lemon, or pineapple, or orange frosting by just a few simple changes.

1/2 cup(s) butter at room temp.
3 cup(s) confectioners' sugar
4 tablespoon(s) cream or evaropated milk
1 teaspoon(s) vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Soften butter to room temp, and cream in remaining ingredients and continue creaming until mixture is well blended and fluffey.
  • This will cover the top and sides of two ( 8" ) layer cakes.
  • For LEMON FROSTING : add 1/2 teaspoon graded lemon rind and use lemon juice instead of vanilla.
  • For PINEALLLE FROSTING : use 1/3 cup crushed pineapple with juice instead of cream.
  • For ORANGR FROSTING : add 1 tablespoon grated orange rind and use orange juice instead of cream.
