PUMPKIN PIE PLAY DOUGH (NON-EDIBLE)

Pumpkin Pie Play Dough (Non-Edible) image

Source: FamilyFun Magazine Quote: "Your little one might not be old enough to bake holiday desserts, but they can still celebrate the season with this pumpkin-inspired play dough. In honor of the beloved fall fruit, we dyed the dough orange and added pumpkin pie spice and cinnamon to it, which makes it smell -- but not taste -- good enough to eat."

Time 9m

Yield 1 play dough, 1 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 cup water
food coloring (6 drops of red and 15 drops of yellow)

Steps:

  • Combine the dry ingredients in a nonstick saucepan.
  • Add the oil, water, and food coloring and whisk until smooth.
  • Stirring constantly with a rubber spatula, cook the mixture over medium heat until it forms a ball, about 3 to 4 minutes.
  • Turn the dough onto a counter, let it cool slightly, then knead the dough until it has a smooth texture, about 1 minute.
  • The dough will keep up to a week in a ziplock bag.
  • To make pumpkin stems, place some pasta (suggested: fusilli) in a ziplock bag.
  • Add five drops of green food coloring and a teaspoon of water.
  • Seal the bag, then let your tot squish the pasta around until it's tinted. Pour the pasta onto a piece of waxed paper and let it dry for about five minutes before pressing it into your pumpkins.

PLAY DOH - PLAY DOUGH (NO STOVE TOP COOKING REQUIRED)

Play Doh - Play Dough (No Stove Top Cooking Required) image

My daughter loves to play with play dough and she loves to make it with me, but I'm always worried about a hot stove. This recipe doesn't require cooking on the stove top, however care is still need. If your child is going to help, please note once the boiling water is added, it's HOT. It could easily burn hands even adult hands (I used heat resistant gloves). This makes heaps of play dough, approximately two kilograms. You could use more food colouring for a stronger colour or add glitter for a fun tone. For the bench flour you may need to add more or less depending on the dough

EDIBLE PLAY DOUGH - SAFE FOR KIDS WITH PEANUT ALLERGIES!

Edible Play Dough - Safe for Kids With Peanut Allergies! image

This recipe comes from one of my favorite cookbooks,"Dining on a Dime" by Tawra Kellam. I brought this dough, along with lots of kid safe kitchen utensils, to my daughter's daycare. The kids had an absolute ball with it! This recipe yields a dough similar in texture to real play dough, unlike the peanut butter dough recipes I have tried. Food color paste seems to give a brighter, truer shade than liquid but use whatever you have. Enjoy!

THE BEST PLAY DOUGH RECIPE

The Best Play Dough Recipe image

This recipe is from my children's preschool art teacher. This truly is the best ever playdough recipe. It will last for several months in an airtight container. No refrigeration is needed. In addition to the food coloring you can add extracts or spices to give it different smells, though these can change how much flour you need to add.

EDIBLE KOOL-AID PLAY DOUGH

Edible Kool-Aid Play Dough image

I made this often as a preschool teacher and now make it regularly with my own children. Smells great and you can vary the colours depending on which flavour kool-aid you choose. My little girls current favourite is grape as it makes "purple playdough!" At Christmas we make it red or green and add peppermint extract and glitter! Orange at Halloween and we even found some Halloween coloured glitter.Pick up some seasonal cookie cutters from the dollar store and your all set. Lots of possibilities and FUN!
