ORANGE DREAM ANGEL FOOD CAKE

Orange Dream Angel Food Cake image

A basic angel food cake becomes a heavenly indulgence, thanks to a hint of orange flavor swirled into every bite. The orange color makes slices of the cake look so pretty when arranged on individual dessert plates.-Lauren Osborne, Holtwood, Pennsylvania

Time 55m

Yield 16 servings.

Number Of Ingredients 11

12 large egg whites
1 cup all-purpose flour
1-3/4 cups sugar, divided
1-1/2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon almond extract
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon grated orange zest
1 teaspoon orange extract
6 drops red food coloring, optional
6 drops yellow food coloring, optional

Steps:

  • Place egg whites in a large bowl; let stand at room temperature for 30 minutes. Sift flour and 3/4 cup sugar together twice; set aside. , Add the cream of tartar, salt and almond and vanilla extracts to egg whites; beat on medium speed until soft peaks form. Gradually add remaining sugar, about 2 tablespoons at a time, beating on high until stiff glossy peaks form and sugar is dissolved. Gradually fold in flour mixture, about 1/2 cup at a time., Gently spoon half of batter into an ungreased 10-in. tube pan. To the remaining batter, stir in the orange zest, orange extract and, if desired, food colorings. Gently spoon orange batter over white batter. Cut through both layers with a knife to swirl the orange and remove air pockets., Bake on the lowest oven rack at 375° for 30-35 minutes or until lightly browned and entire top appears dry. Immediately invert pan; cool completely, about 1 hour., Run a knife around side and center tube of pan. Remove cake to a serving plate.

NO COOK PINEAPPLE ORANGE ANGEL FOOD CAKE

No Cook Pineapple Orange Angel Food Cake image

Here's one of those "no cook quickie cakes" to put together when you are busy with other things. It's cool, low fat, fairly low sugar, yet has such a good flavor. I've seen similar recipes in magazines but they use pineapple and strawberries. My mother in law makes this with mandarin oranges and everyone loves it. I made a chocolate cake and this one when we had a crowd to feed, including 12 kids. This cake was gone and there was still half a chocolate cake left. Cooking time is really chilling time.

Categories     Dessert

Time 2h2m

Yield 8-10 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 prepared angel food cake, ring (I buy the no sugar added one)
1 (20 ounce) can crushed pineapple, with liquid
1 (1 ounce) box instant vanilla pudding (sugar free, fat free)
2 (5 1/2 ounce) cans mandarin oranges, drained well
1 (8 ounce) container Cool Whip Lite, thawed
1 (5 1/2 ounce) can drained mandarin oranges (to garnish) (optional)

Steps:

  • Cut angel food cake into 2 or 3 layers.
  • Stir the crushed pineapple and vanilla pudding until blended.
  • Add madarin oranges, mixing well with pudding mixture. The orange sections will resemble the crushed pineapple when finished.
  • Fold in cool whip.
  • Frost layers of cake generously with this mixture and use remaining to "frost" the outside of the cake.
  • You can arrange more mandarin orange sections along the top of the cake if desired. Gives it some color.
  • Let chill for a couple of hours, if you can wait that long.
  • Last time I wanted to let it "chill" it was gone before the chill time was finished.

ORANGE-COCONUT ANGEL FOOD CAKE

Orange-Coconut Angel Food Cake image

This low-fat angle food cake is not your typical tasteless cake. The orange custard and the coconut add much-needed flavor to the cake. This makes a great summer treat that is very easy to assemble.

  • Pineapple Angel Food Cake. Despite its fancy appearance, this cake is effortless to make. And believe it or not, it uses only three – yes, three – ingredients.
  • Heaven on Earth Cake. I love this no-bake dessert recipe because it’s light, spongy, colorful, and just plain fun. It’s kind of a mishmash of cake, pudding, fruit, and whipped cream.
  • Heavenly Blueberries and Cream Angel Dessert. Do you prefer desserts that are more tart and tangy than purely sweet? If so, you’ll love this blueberries and cream recipe.
  • 2-Ingredient Cherry Angel Food Cake. Like the pineapple cake recipe above, this one calls for a box of angel food cake and a can of something sweet. In this case, it’s bright and sticky cherry pie filling.
  • Angel Food Cake Berry Trifle. Trifles are some of my favorite desserts. I love how light and fruity they are, and I’ve always been a Cool Whip addict.

  • Stir together oranges and their reserved juice, pomegranate arils, honey, and vanilla. Set aside (cover and refrigerate for up to a couple of days if making this topping ahead).
  • Spread the angel food cake slices on a baking sheet and broil until warmed and lightly toasted and golden on both sides (about 2-3 minutes per side). We recommend that you keep your cake slices at least a couple of inches away from the broiler’s heat source, and also keep a close eye on them. Once they begin to toast, they can go quickly from golden brown to burned.
  • To serve, drizzle a quarter of the orange-pomegranate sauce over each slice of warm angel food cake. Optionally, add a dollop of vanilla Greek yogurt alongside. Serve immediately.
