EASY HOMEMADE PLAYDOUGH (NO COOK)

Easy Homemade Playdough (No Cook) image

Celebrate sensory play with a recipe for Easy Homemade Playdough that requires just a few simple ingredients and no cooking.

Provided by Kelly Senyei

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup salt
2 Tablespoons cream of tartar
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 1/4 cups boiling water
Food coloring (optional)

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, salt and cream of tartar.
  • Add the vegetable oil and boiling water, and using a spatula, mix until combined. Once it's cool enough to handle, use your hands to knead the playdough in the bowl until it becomes smooth, about 2 minutes. (It may appear wet at first but will dry as you knead and the water gets fully absorbed.)
  • Turn the playdough onto your work surface and knead it until it is smooth, about 2 minutes.
  • Use the homemade playdough as is, or if desired, color with food coloring of your choice. (If using food coloring, it's best to mix the playdough in a bowl while wearing disposable gloves to avoid coloring your hands.)

GOOF OFF CLAY (PLAY DOUGH - NOT EDIBLE)

Goof off Clay (Play Dough - Not Edible) image

Best home made play dough recipe! No endless stirring over the stove top. No baking in the oven. I got this recipe when I was a preschool teacher and have tresured it. GREAT texture....only thing it is missing is the smell of store bought play dough. It calls for Kool Aid to color and scent...but personally I never make it with Kool Aid because I don't want my children to think it is food - it is hard enough to keep kids from eating play dough. But the new neon food colors work really good to get nice color. (DOES NOT AIR DRY OR BAKE WELL)

Time 15m

Yield 1 enough for 1 child

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 (1/4 ounce) package unsweetened Kool-Aid powdered drink mix (optional)
1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
2 tablespoons cream of tartar
1 tablespoon cooking oil
1 cup boiling water (mixed with food color if you are not using Kool Aid)

Steps:

  • Mix the dry ingredients together.
  • Add oil and water - if you wanted different colors, you can add the food color after the dough is mixed, but it is easier to mix it in with the water.
  • Mix the ingredients quickly to blend everything. The dough should be stiff and begin to form a ball.
  • Let dough cool slightly, then drop onto a floured surface and knead until smooth, about 5 minute.
  • Store in an air tight container for hours of fun whenever you want it!

Time 20m

Yield 12

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 cups water
2 ½ cups white flour
½ cup salt
1 tablespoon cream of tartar
2 (0.13 ounce) packages unsweetened, fruit-flavored soft drink mix (such as KOOL-AID®)
3 tablespoons vegetable oil

Steps:

  • Bring the water to a boil in a sauce pan; remove from heat and set aside.
  • Whisk together the flour, salt, cream of tartar, and soft drink mix in a large bowl; stir the vegetable oil into the flour mixture using a spoon, not a whisk. Pour the hot water into the bowl and continue stirring. When the dough is cool enough to handle, turn it onto a lightly-floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 8 minutes. Store unused portions in refrigerator.
