Need an after-dinner coffee to match the festive mood? Try this blend with nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon and orange zest. Perfect, too, for Christmas morning

Number Of Ingredients 6

4 tbsp ground coffee
1 small cinnamon stick
2 pitted dates
pinch of ground nutmeg
2 cloves
strip of pared orange zest

Steps:

  • Put the ground coffee, cinnamon stick and dates in a large cafetiere. Add the ground nutmeg, cloves and orange zest, then pour over 400ml freshly boiled water.
  • Stir gently with a wooden spoon to combine, then leave to steep for 4 mins. Slowly push down the plunger and serve in espresso cups.

I'm not a great baker, but I do love coffee. In an effort to practice my baking, I use up the morning's last bit of coffee to make this cake-literally. It is super moist and crumbly, and tastes like you dunked your cake right into a cup of hot joe. - Darla Andrews, Schertz, Texas

3 tablespoons butter, cubed
2 cups chopped peeled Gala apple
1/2 cup packed brown sugar, divided
1/4 cup brewed coffee
2/3 cup canola oil
1/2 cup sugar
1 large egg plus 1 large egg white, room temperature
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
DRIZZLE:
1/3 cup brewed coffee
1/4 cup heavy whipping cream
1-1/2 cups confectioners' sugar

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375°. In a 10-in. cast-iron or other ovenproof skillet, melt butter over low heat. Add apple and 1/4 cup brown sugar. Cook and stir until crisp-tender, about 5 minutes. Stir in coffee; remove from heat., In a large bowl, beat oil, sugar, egg, egg white, vanilla and remaining 1/4 cup brown sugar until well blended. In another bowl, whisk flour, cinnamon, salt, baking soda and nutmeg; gradually beat into oil mixture. Gently spread over apple mixture., Bake until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean, 18-22 minutes. Cool on a wire rack 10 minutes., Meanwhile, for drizzle, in a small saucepan, bring coffee and cream to a boil; cook until liquid is reduced to 1/4 cup, 10-12 minutes. Remove from heat; stir in confectioners' sugar. Let stand 10 minutes. Drizzle over cake.

12 oz boiling water
1 tsp instant coffee, decaf or reg coffe
1 tsp nestle's quik cocoa
2 tsp coffee creamer
2 pkg zero calorie aspratame or sugar
1 dash(es) ground nutmeg
1 dash(es) ground cinnamon
1 dash(es) allspice ground

Steps:

  • 1. For Instant Coffee Drinkers add all the ingredients to the boiling cup of water, stir, Enjoy!
  • 2. For Brewed Coffee add the Spices you want to use to the Coffee Grounds and then Brew in your coffee pot for a taste of fresh brewed spices. Then add the rest rest of the ingredients to individual coffee cups, Enjoy!
