A popular American dessert that is made frequently in the Southern States. This light and delicious dish is very easy to make and can be easily customized to ones preferences.

½ cup Heavy cream
½ cup Sour cream
1 tablespoon Sugar
1 cup Fresh pineapple, finely chopped
1 cup Red seedless grapes, halved
2 Oranges or Clementines, peeled and segmented
2 tablespoons Grated unsweetened coconut, fresh or dried
3 tablespoons Pecans or Almonds, toasted

Steps:

  • In a chilled bowl, pour the cream and add sugar. Beat with a hand mixer or a whisk until stiff peak forms.
  • Add sour cream to the whipped cream and gently fold it in.
  • Prep all the fruit and mix them in a small bowl.
  • At this point, you can either layer them into individual serving glasses to make ambrosia parfaits. Or toss everything in a big bowl for a even quicker dish.

1/2 cup heavy cream
1 tablespoon sugar
4 ounces sour cream
6 ounces homemade mini marshmallows, approximately 3 cups
1 cup clementine orange segments, approximately 6 clementines
1 cup chopped fresh pineapple
1 cup freshly grated coconut
1 cup toasted, chopped pecans
1/2 cup drained maraschino cherries

Steps:

  • Place the cream and sugar into the bowl of a stand mixer with the whisk attachment and whip until stiff peaks are formed. Add the sour cream and whisk to combine. Add the marshmallows, orange, pineapple, coconut, pecans and cherries and stir to combine. Transfer to a glass serving bowl, cover and place in the refrigerator for 2 hours before serving.

1 can (8 oz) crushed pineapple in juice, drained
2 cups Honey Nut Cheerios™ cereal
1 medium banana, sliced (1 cup)
1 can (11 oz) mandarin orange segments in light syrup, drained
1/4 cup flaked coconut, toasted
4 fresh strawberries, sliced

Steps:

  • In medium bowl, mix yogurt and pineapple. Into each of 4 parfait glasses, place 1/4 cup of the cereal.
  • Spoon 2 tablespoons yogurt mixture on top of cereal in each glass. Top each with 1/4 cup cereal, then with 1/4 of the banana slices.
  • Spoon 2 tablespoons yogurt mixture onto banana in each; top each with orange segments. Spoon remaining yogurt mixture over orange segments. Sprinkle with coconut. Garnish with strawberries.

I got this recipe from a friend of mine who served this for dessert one evening. My husband and I raved and now everyone needs to know! I originally had the recipe with peaches, but as noted below, you could really use any canned fruit.

4 slices angel food cake (or butter pound cake, if desired)
3 cups vanilla frozen yogurt (or ice cream, if desired)
1 (8 1/4 ounce) can peaches in light syrup, no sugar added (or heavy syrup, if desired)

Steps:

  • Break up angel food slices into quarters and place at bottom of bowl/glass (depending on how you want to serve it).
  • Scoop frozen yogurt onto pound cake.
  • Add half the can of peaches (or pineapple, or fruit cocktail, etc) to top of frozen yogurt, adding syrup from the can as well.

2 (15 ounce) cans mandarin oranges, drained
1 cup maraschino cherries, halved
⅔ (3.5 ounce) package instant vanilla pudding mix
1 (12 ounce) container frozen whipped topping (such as Cool Whip®), thawed
1 (8 ounce) container sour cream
1 (8 ounce) package flaked coconut (such as Baker's®), or to taste
2 ½ cups miniature marshmallows

Steps:

  • Combine pineapple, mandarin oranges, and cherries in a large trifle bowl. Sprinkle pudding mix over top. Fold in whipped topping and sour cream. Add coconut and mix until well combined. Place in the refrigerator until firm, 4 hours to overnight.
