BETTER BAKED BEANS
Tangy, sweet old fashioned baked beans, are made the easy way in this side dish. This is my grandma's favorite semi home-made recipe. She makes it every Thanksgiving, and we usually end up scraping the pan clean! Never any leftovers!

Steps:
- Adjust the oven rack to the lower-middle position and preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.
- Fry the regular chopped bacon in a large, deep skillet until the bacon has partially cooked and released about 1/4 cup drippings. Add the onions, peppers and jalapenos, and saute until tender, about 5 minutes. Add the beans, barbecue sauce, brown sugar, vinegar, ketchup, mustard and chipotles, and bring to a simmer. (If the skillet is not large enough, add the beans and heat to a simmer and then transfer to a large bowl and stir in the remaining ingredients). Pour the flavored beans into an aluminum pan. Top with the uncooked slices of bacon (you can halve the slices if you like). Then bake until the beans are bubbly and the sauce is the consistency of pancake syrup, about 2 hours. Let stand to thicken slightly and serve.

DRESSED UP, SLOW COOKED CANNED BAKED BEANS
My sister turned me on to this wonderful way to dress up canned baked or barbeque beans (and she nabbed it from our cousin). They are delightful, and such an easy way to make canned taste homemade. I love to serve these with barbequed meat, and either cold slaw or potatoe salad. This recipe can easily be adjusted to serve the number of people in your party. You can also add more or less brown sugar, depending on how much sweetness you prefer.

- BUSH’S BEST BLACK BEANS + SALSA. The first time I combined black beans and salsa was with a roommate that I had while living in California. She was from Mexico and grew up in southern Texas and had all sorts of Mexican/Southwest cuisine and tricks.
- BUSH’S BLACK BEANS + SPICES. Wanna quick little tweak to those stove top beans to make them all sorts of yummy? Seriously, simply throwing a couple spices into the mix is easy-peasy and can make the flavor profile so versatile.
- BUSH’S BLACK BEANS + GARLIC (+ MASH ACTION – OPTIONAL) There’s just something about fresh garlic. It’s, what do you say….. AMAZING. Yes. That. It can turn something boring into a totally revitalized dish.
- BUSH’S BLACK BEANS + LIME. I think it is already an unspoken rule of thumb that you must generously sprinkle lime juice over everything Mexican that you ever eat.
- BUSH’S BLACK BEANS + COTIJA. Have you ever had cotija? What is this weird foreign word, you say? Well, it is a type of aged Mexican cheese (also known as queso anejo) that will win over your heart and soul the second you taste it.
