Categories     Beef

Time 1h

Number Of Ingredients 17

1 piece of uncooked bacon
1 cup diced yellow onion
2 pounds lean ground beef
2 tsp kosher salt
1 tsp black pepper
1 Tbsp chili powder
1 Tbsp cumin
2 tsp garlic powder
2 tsp Better than Bouillon Beef Base
1 chipotle pepper canned in adobo sauce, chopped
1 cup water
2 (15.5 oz) cans chili beans
1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
1 (6 oz) can tomato paste
½ tsp cinnamon
1 tsp cocoa powder
Toppings: Fritos, grated cheese, sour cream, diced green or red onions

Steps:

  • Turn your Instant Pot to the saute setting. When the display says HOT add in the piece of bacon and the onion. The onion will cook in the bacon grease. Stir for a couple of minutes and then add in the beef. Break up the beef and brown it for 5-10 minutes. If there is excess grease spoon it off and discard. Leave the bacon in there for added flavor.
  • Add in the kosher salt, pepper, chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, Better than Bouillon and adobo. Stir to really coat the beef in all the seasonings.
  • Pour the water into the pot and scrape the bottom of the pot so that it's clean. Turn off the saute setting.
  • Next layer the following ingredients on top of the beef and do not stir: chili beans and juices, crushed tomatoes, tomato paste (in dollops). Lastly sprinkle in the cinnamon and cocoa powder.
  • Cover the Instant Pot and secure the lid. Make sure the valve is set to sealing. Set the manual/pressure cook button to 20 minutes on high pressure. When the time is up let the pot sit for 15 minutes and then move the valve to venting. Remove the lid.
  • Stir the chili really well. Then ladle into bowls and serve with toppings. If desired refrigerate the chili and warm up the next day and serve for even better flavor.

INSTANT POT BEEF CHILI RECIPE BY TASTY

Instant Pot Beef Chili Recipe by Tasty image

Classic chili comes together in under an hour in the Instant Pot. Use the sauté function to brown the aromatics and meat, then pressure cook to meld and build that long-simmered flavor. No chili is complete without the toppings--we love sour cream, shredded cheese, and cilantro!

Categories     Dinner

Time 50m

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 17

1 tablespoon olive oil
1 medium yellow onion, diced
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 jalapeño, seeded and minced
1 lb ground beef
2 teaspoons kosher salt
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1 teaspoon chili powder
¼ cup tomato paste
1 can whole peeled tomato
1 can kidney bean, drained and rinsed
1 ½ cups chicken stock
shredded cheddar cheese, for serving
fresh cilantro, roughly chopped, for serving
sour cream, for serving

Steps:

  • Set the Instant Pot to sauté and add the olive oil. Once the oil begins to shimmer, add the onion and cook, stirring often, until starting to soften, about 5 minutes. Add the garlic and jalapeño and cook, stirring frequently, until aromatic, 1 minute.
  • Add the ground beef and cook, breaking up with a wooden spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 7 minutes. Add the salt, pepper, cumin, paprika, chili powder, and tomato paste and cook, stirring constantly, until combined, 1 minute.
  • Add the tomatoes and use a potato masher to break up, then add the kidney beans and chicken stock. Place the lid on the Instant Pot and set to pressure cook on high for 20 minutes. Once the timer goes off, set the Instant Pot to quick release.
  • Serve the chili with shredded cheddar cheese, cilantro, and sour cream.
  • Enjoy!

INSTANT POT CHILI

Instant Pot Chili image

Use your Instant Pot to make this classic, beef-and-bean chili. Canned chipotles in adobo give it an extra kick of smoky, spicy flavor.

Categories     autumn     Super Bowl     winter     comfort food     main dish     soup

Time 1h55m

Yield 6-8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 13

3 tbsp. vegetable oil
1 1/4 lb. lean ground beef
2 tsp. ground cumin
2 tsp. chili powder
2 tsp. salt, divided
1/2 small yellow onion, chopped
3 garlic cloves, finely chopped
2 c. reduced-sodium beef stock
2 (15 oz.) cans black or kidney beans, drained and rinsed
1 (15 oz.) can diced fire-roasted tomatoes
2 tbsp. tomato paste
1 tbsp. pureed chipotles in adobo (optional)
Shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream, chopped green onion, and corn chips, for serving

Steps:

  • Add the oil to the liner of a 6- or 8-quart Instant Pot and set to sauté. Add the beef then sprinkle with cumin, chili powder, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Cook, stirring often to break up the meat, until browned, about 7 minutes. Stir in onion and garlic; cook, stirring often, until onion is slightly softened, about 3 minutes more.
  • Add the beef stock to the Instant Pot, stirring to release any browned bits from the bottom of the liner. Gently stir in the remaining 1 teaspoon salt, beans, tomatoes, tomato paste, and chipotle puree, if using. Press the cancel button to reset the Instant Pot.
  • Cover the Instant Pot with the lid and lock it into place. Seal the steam release handle. Select high pressure and set the timer for 14 minutes. When the timer is up, let it rest for 10 minutes, then manually release the pressure (unseal the steam release handle). Unlock and remove the lid, being careful of any remaining steam.
  • Give the chili a good stir to recombine all of the ingredients. Serve topped with cheese, sour cream, green onion, and corn chips.

INSTANT POT® CHILI

Instant Pot® Chili image

The basis for this recipe came from another site. I modified it a bit so, rather than put my changes as comments for his recipe (I hate when people do that), I am posting it as a separate recipe. I have some hints at the bottom for night-before preparations.

Time 1h

Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 pound lean ground beef
1 large onion, diced
4 cloves garlic, crushed
½ teaspoon salt
¼ cup chili powder
1 tablespoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 ½ cups water
4 (15 ounce) cans kidney beans, drained
1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
2 tablespoons tomato paste

Steps:

  • Turn on a multi-functional pressure cooker (such as Instant Pot®) and select Saute function. Add ground beef. Cook and stir until browned and crumbly, 5 to 7 minutes. Drain and discard grease. Transfer cooked beef to a separate container.
  • Pour oil into the Instant Pot® and select Saute function. Add onion, garlic, and salt. Cook until softened, 5 to 7 minutes. Make a hole in the center of the mixture and add chili powder, cumin, and oregano. Let spices sit for 30 seconds, then stir into the onion. Return cooked beef to the pot and add water. Stir, being sure to scrape any browned bits from the bottom.
  • Stir beans, crushed tomatoes, and tomato paste into the beef mixture. Close and lock the lid. Select Chili function and set the timer for 10 minutes. Allow 10 to 15 minutes for pressure to build.
  • Release pressure using the natural-release method according to manufacturer's instructions, 10 to 40 minutes. Unlock and remove the lid.
