Breaded Deep-Fried Bananas (Banana Empanada) image

5-Ingredient Breaded Deep Fried Bananas (Banana Empanada)-- a quick and easy dish that can be served as a side for feijoada or as a dessert topped with ice cream. These can be gluten-free, Paleo,a nd Whole30.

Vegetable oil (enough to completely cover the bananas)
5 ripe but firm small bananas
1 cup all-purpose flour or whole wheat flour ((or GF flour, almond flour or coconut flour))
3 large eggs (beaten and mixed with 1 tsp water)
1 cup bread crumbs

Steps:

  • Heat the oil to 350ºF (180ºC) in a deep-fry machine or heavy-bottom saucepan over medium heat. While oil is heating, peel the bananas, remove the stringy parts that cling to the peeled fruit, and cut crosswise in half.
  • Place the flour, eggs, and bread crumbs each in a separate bowl. Dredge the banana halves in flour to get an even coating. Shake to remove excess flour. Next, soak the banana halves in the beaten eggs mixed with 1 tsp water. Finally, cover the banana halves in bread crumbs.
  • Fry each half until lightly golden (do NOT overcrowd the pan), about 1 to 2 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon. Place on a plate lined with a double layer of paper towels.

1 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 egg, large, lightly beaten
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
vegetable oil
9 bananas, firm and ripe, sliced into 1 inch pieces

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, combine the first four ingredients.
  • In a large bowl, combine the egg, oil, milk, and vanilla. Gradually add the flour mixture to the egg mixture, stirring often.
  • Pour the oil to a depth of 2 inches into a Dutch oven; heat to 375 degrees. Dip the banana slices into the batter; fry in hot oil 3 1/2 to 4 minutes or until golden. Drain on paper towels.

1 large egg
2 teaspoons instant yeast
3/4 cup water
1/2 teaspoon granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups all-purpose white flour
12 medium bananas
1/2 cup honey
2 cups vegetable oil
1/2 cup powdered sugar, if desired

Steps:

  • Mix the egg, yeast, sugar and water in a small bowl.
  • In another bowl, combine flour and salt.
  • Add the yeast mixture and mix them together well.
  • Cover the dough and let it set 1 1/2 hours.
  • Cut the bananas into 3-4 pcs each and dip pieces into dough.
  • Heat vegetable oil in heavy skillet till hot.
  • Fry the banana pieces in hot oil, turning to brown both sides -- till light golden brown.
  • Serve hot with honey to drizzle over the top.
  • May sift powdered sugar over banana before drizzling with honey, if desired.

6 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons sugar
1 egg, beaten
1/4 cup milk
1 pinch salt
4 medium bananas (the firmer they are, the better)
peanut oil (for frying)

Steps:

  • Mix together the flour, sugar, egg, milk and salt to make a smooth, paste-like batter.
  • Leave to rest for one hour.
  • Peel the bananas and slice each one in half lengthwise, then across into chunks about three inches long.
  • Dip the banana pieces into the batter and shallow fry in hot oil for a few minutes or until golden brown all over.
  • Drain quickly on a wire rack or paper towel, and serve warm.
  • If you like, serve them with real maple syrup, powdered sugar, or honey, for extra sweetness.

* 75 g sugar

* 2 tea spoon chocolate candy
* 1/2 tea spoon vanilla
25 g butter

  • Heat the butter in a large frying pan and fry the bananas for 1 to 2 minutes on each side or until slightly golden in color.

This is one of my favorite recipes. I have it every time I go to a Thai restaurant topped with coconut ice cream or drizzled with honey. If you have never tried it, now is the time, it's so good! I use Nam, a variety of banana which can be found at most Asian Markets. You can also use sweet potatoes in this recipe.

1/4 cup tapioca flour
2 tablespoons white sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup shredded coconut
1 1/4 cups water
10 bananas
3 cups oil (for frying)

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, mix rice flour, tapioca, sugar, salt and coconut. Stir in water, a little at a time, and mix to form a thick batter.
  • Peel the bananas and cut each lengthwise into 3 or 4 pieces. Heat oil in deep-fryer or deep wok to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • Completely coat each banana slice in batter, then fry in hot oil until golden. Drain on paper towels. Serve at once.
  • Serve with Coconut Ice Cream (vanilla ice cream with honey will do if coconut ice cream is not available).
