MICROWAVE CROUTONS

Easy and quick, better if you use old bread, any kind.

Number Of Ingredients 4

4 c bread cubes
4 Tbsp olive or canola oil
1 Tbsp garlic powder
1 Tbsp parsley flakes

Steps:

  • 1. Mix all ingredients.
  • 2. Microwave in high 1 minute and mix.
  • 3. Microwave 1 minute and mix again.
  • 4. Microwave another minute or until the bread cubes are crunchy. Let them cool. Keep them in air tight container.

This was in a recent issue of the kids page in the Sunday paper. It's so easy that even a child can do it and yet it is very good! You can vary the seasonings to your taste.

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 tablespoons butter
1/2 teaspoon parsley flakes
1/8 teaspoon paprika
1/8 teaspoon garlic salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
2 slices bread, cut in 1/2 inch cubes (I used one whole hot dog bun)

Steps:

  • Put butter in a medium baking dish (I used a glass pie plate).
  • In a microwave oven, cook butter on high for about 25 seconds or until melted.
  • Stir in the parsley, paprika, garlic salt and pepper.
  • Then add the bread.
  • Stir until bread cubes are coated.
  • Microwave uncovered for 3 minutes; sitrring the cubes once every minute until bread is golden and crisp.
  • Sprinkle over a tossed salad.

1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
1/2 cup butter, melted

Steps:

  • Put bread in a microwave safe 7 x 11 dish. Cook in the microwave for 2-3 minutes on high.
  • Sprinkle herbs and garlic over the bread then drizzle butter over top. Toss bread to coat.
  • Return to microwave for 4-5 minutes or until crisp and dry, stirring after 2 minutes.

1 garlic clove
2 thick slices sourdough bread
½ tbsp oil
1 tbsp mixed seeds
1 tbsp parsley

Steps:

  • Heat the oven to 220C/200C fan/gas 7. Rub the whole garlic clove over both sides of the sourdough. Tear it into rough chunks and toss with the oil, a good pinch of salt and the seeds.
  • Spread out on a baking sheet and bake for 8-10 mins until golden and crisp. Mix with the chopped parsley. Sprinkle on soup or a salad for added crunch.

I use all my leftover or dried out bread by making them into croutons. These croutons are SO GOOD. People are always asking for the recipe after tasting them (I think it's the butter :)).

Number Of Ingredients 4

6 cups bread, cut into cubes
2 tablespoons italian seasoning
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
1/2 cup margarine, melted (or butter)

Steps:

  • Microwave the bread cubes on high for 6 minutes, stirring after 2 minutes, until cubes begin to dry.
  • Sprinkle Italian seasoning and garlic salt over bread cubes.
  • Drizzle with melted margarine, tossing to coat cubes.
  • Microwave at high, 4-6 minutes, stirring every minute, until crisp and dry.
