Here is a cocktail recipe perfect to warm you on Christmas - a creamy hot chocolate drink, spiked with peppermint schnapps, crème de cacao and cognac.

Ingredients

2 packages (1 oz each) instant cocoa mix
1/2 cup crème de cacao
1/4 cup peppermint schnapps
1/4 cup cognac
Sweetened whipped cream, if desired
Chocolate shavings, if desired

Steps:

Make cocoa mix as directed on package, using water instead of milk. In small bowl, stir together crème de cacao, schnapps and cognac; stir into hot cocoa.
Pour mixture evenly into 4 Irish coffee glasses. Top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings.

Ingredients

1 1/4 cups sugar
1 1/4 cups water
2 1/2 cups brandy
3 drops peppermint oil
3 drops green food coloring (optional)

Steps:

Combine the sugar and water in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil and stir to dissolve the sugar.
Stir in the peppermint oil and green food coloring if using.
Allow to cool slightly before stirring in brandy.
Pour into a bottle and seal.
Tastes best after a couple of weeks.
