8 slices of bacon
2 pounds of rinsed and trimmed fresh green beans
1/2 cup yellow onion (diced)
1 potato (diced)
1 1/2 cups chicken broth or stock
salt and pepper to taste

Steps:

  • Cut the bacon into small pieces and cook over medium heat until the bacon is fully rendered and crispy.
  • Add the onions and saute with bacon until transparent.
  • Lightly spray a slow cooker with cooking spray and add green beans. and pepper and stir making sure the bacon drippings are getting mixed in well.
  • Add bacon and onion mixture followed by the diced potatoes.
  • Add chicken broth, salt and pepper to taste. I frequently don't even add salt because the bacon has so much already.
  • Cover and cook on low heat for 6 to 8 hours or high heat for 3 to 4 hours or until beans reach your desired level of tenderness.
  • Add salt and pepper to taste. Serve immediately.

8 slices thick-cut bacon
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup ketchup
1/3 cup packed light brown sugar
1/4 cup BBQ sauce
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
4 (14.5-ounce) cans green beans, (drained)

Steps:

  • Chop bacon and cook it in a large nonstick pan. Remove bacon and set aside.
  • Discard all but 2 tablespoons bacon grease. Add onion to bacon grease left in pan and cook until soft.
  • In a medium bowl, stir together ketchup, brown sugar, BBQ sauce, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper.
  • Add green beans to a lightly greased 4 to 6 quart crock pot.
  • Add onions along with any bacon grease left in pan to crock pot.
  • Pour ketchup mixture on top and stir in.
  • Sprinkle bacon on top. Cover crock pot and cook on LOW for 4 to 5 hours.

2 cups chicken broth (plus more if needed)
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon paprika
1/4 teaspoon granulated sugar
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1 1/2 pounds fresh green beans (washed with the ends trimmed)
1 Tablespoon butter

Steps:

  • Cut the bacon into 1/4 inch pieces, and cook them in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat until they're crispy. Remove the bacon from the pan and set aside, but reserve the bacon grease.
  • Add the onions to the pan with the bacon grease and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes, add in the garlic and cook for another 1 minute, or until aromatic. Remove the onions and garlic from the pan and place into the crockpot, then discard the remaining bacon grease.
  • Add the chicken broth, garlic salt, black pepper, paprika, sugar, and red pepper flakes to a 6 quart crockpot, and stir to combine. Add in half of the bacon and mix.
  • Place the green beans into the crockpot, making sure they are all laying in the same direction and are tight together, this will ensure they cook evenly. Put additional chicken broth in if needed. The beans don't need to be fully submerged, but they do need to be about 90% covered.
  • Cook on low for 6 - 7 hours (or on high for 4 hours). If cooking on the low setting, check to see if they are at your desired tenderness after 6 hours. If not, continue to cook until tenderness is reached.
  • Once the string beans are done, drain them from the chicken broth. Toss with butter, the remainder of the bacon, and add salt and pepper to taste.

4 Tablespoons butter
water (enough to cover your beans)

  • Pour your cans of green beans in your crock pot

8 slices center cut bacon (Reserve 3 Tbsp drippings) (cooked and crumbled or 8 slices to lay on top)
1/2 medium green pepper (finely diced)
1 medium sweet onion (finely diced)
1 lb lean ground beef
seasoned salt & black pepper
2 28 oz cans hickory flavored baked beans
2/3 cup barbecue sauce
1 10 oz can chili seasoned tomatoes (i.e. Rotel Chili Fixin's)
1/2 cup brown sugar
3 Tbsp whole grain mustard
2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
2 tsp barbecue seasoning (i.e. Grill Mates Smokehouse Maple or Barbecue Magic)

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  • In a 12-inch cast iron skillet or similar, saute the green pepper, onion and ground beef in reserved bacon drippings until no pink remains in the beef. Season with seasoned salt and black pepper to your taste. After browning, drain any excess fat from the pan.
  • To the skillet add beans, barbecue sauce, chili style tomatoes, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, whole grain mustard and barbecue seasoning. Stir until the ingredients are well blended. Add crumbled bacon.
  • Place into the oven and bake for 60-75 minuites.
  • Stir well, and allow the baked beans to rest for 5-10 minutes on the counter before serving to allow the sauce to thicken.

  • In a small skillet over medium-high heat, cook the bacon until crisp. Drain on paper towels, crumble and set aside.

black pepper
1/2 cup butter
1 onion, chopped
3 cans (14.5 ounce size) green beans, drained
1 can (14.5 ounce size) green beans, undrained
1 tablespoon dark brown sugar, divided
1 tablespoon good balsamic vinegar
salt and pepper
2 tablespoons butter

Steps:

  • Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the bacon and cook until done. Remove the bacon from the pan and let drain on paper towels. Sprinkle both sides of the bacon with black pepper. Reduce the heat under the skillet to low. Add the first measure of butter to the bacon grease in the skillet and stir until it melts. Add the chopped onion and cook, stirring, until soft and slightly caramelized, about 15-20 minutes. Remove the pan from heat and set aside. Place the drained beans in the bottom of a crock pot. Season as desired with salt and pepper. Crumble the bacon and add half of it to the crock pot. Place half of the cooked onions on top of the beans. Sprinkle with half to the brown sugar. Drizzle some of the bacon/butter mixture from the skillet over the top. Evenly spread the undrained beans over the top. Top with remaining bacon, onions, and brown sugar. Drizzle the balsamic vinegar over all and then gently stir until just barely combined. Dot the top of the beans with the cut up butter. Cover the crock pot and cook on high heat for 1-2 hours or until heated through. If you don't want to cook this in the crock pot you can cook it in a baking dish in the oven or in a dutch oven on the stove.
