The corpse reviver no. 2 is a fantastic gin cocktail. With a hint of absinthe and your choice of Lillet Blanc or Cocchi Americano, taste why people love it.

Dash absinthe
1 ounce gin
1 ounce Lillet Blanc, or Cocchi Americano, dry vermouth
1 ounce lemon juice , fresh
1 ounce orange liqueur , Cointreau
Garnish: orange peel

Steps:

  • Gather the ingredients.
  • Rinse a chilled cocktail glass with absinthe and toss the excess.
  • Pour the remaining ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
  • Shake well .
  • Strain into the rinsed glass.
  • Garnish with an orange peel. Serve and enjoy.

Who cares what is in this cocktail? The name sold me when I read it in Harry Craddock's The Savoy Cocktail Book (1930). This is one of many variations.

1/2 ounce Cointreau
1/2 ounce Lillet Blonde

Steps:

  • Combine gin, Cointreau, Lillet, lemon juice, and absinthe in a cocktail shaker. Shake with ice until well chilled. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with twist if desired.
