  • Old Fashioned. This is one of those bourbon cocktails that's best with a bourbon you really love—there's really nowhere for a sub-par spirit to hide. Get This Recipe.
  • Paradise Apple. Whiskey and cider are always great together, but as bourbon cocktail recipes go, this one is truly a stunner. Bartender Lynnette Marrero layers bourbon, cider, dry riesling, and a touch of floral liqueur for a cocktail that's sophisticated and bright.
  • Newton's Law. Here's an easy option: Bourbon, lemon, brown sugar, and storebought apple butter. The flavor is pure fall. Get This Recipe.
  • Thunderer. This spicy bourbon drink comes from bartender Christiaan Röllich's book, Bar Chef. Ginger, chile de árbol, and fresh grapefruit are wonderful together.
  • Boulevardier. This relative of the Negroni is especially great in cooler weather. You can make it with your favorite bourbon—or rye. Get This Recipe.
  • Old Pepper. In this drink from Alba Huerta's Julep, bourbon and turbinado syrup (made from Sugar in the Raw) meet savory Worcestershire sauce and Crystal hot sauce.
  • Turmeric Hot Toddy. This golden-hued hot toddy from Claire Sprouse of Brooklyn’s Hunky Dory is wonderfully savory from the combination of Amontillado sherry and earthy turmeric.

  • Old-Fashioned. Simple and fascinating, few cocktails can beat the old-fashioned. The recipe is unbelievably easy, accenting bourbon with sugar and bitters, as well as orange and soda if you like.
  • Mint Julep. Though it's a must for the Kentucky Derby, the popular mint julep is a fabulous choice year-round. The mint acts as a cooling contrast to a smooth, bold whiskey, and the sugar brings the two together wonderfully.
  • Manhattan. There are no great secrets to the success of the Manhattan, whiskey's answer to the gin martini. While you can make it with any style of whiskey, bourbon is the choice for many drinkers.
  • John Collins. Many whiskey cocktails can use any style of the brown liquor, but bourbon is often a favorite. That's certainly the case for the John Collins, one of the best tall drinks you can mix up.
  • Whiskey Smash. For a taste of a very old whiskey cocktail, try the whiskey smash. This storied drink has been around since the late 1800s, and it's just as satisfying today.
  • Perfect Manhattan. Like the martini, you can also make your Manhattan "perfect." That simply means you'll pour equal amounts of both sweet and dry vermouth.
  • Bourbon Sidecar. The sidecar is often associated with brandy, but it's intriguing when you switch to bourbon. The bourbon sidecar is a basic sour cocktail that shakes the whiskey with orange-flavored triple sec and lemon juice.
  • Bourbon Eggnog. You might get a craving for boozy eggnog around the holidays, and bourbon is an excellent choice for the traditional drink. This particular recipe makes enough for an intimate party and your guests will love the made-from-scratch flavor.
  • Kentucky Coffee. Whiskey and coffee were made for one another. In the Kentucky coffee, the duo is enhanced with a whiskey-based honey liqueur, offering a sweet touch with a little more booze.
  • Bourbon Tea. Bourbon and sweet tea are Southern staples, so it's only natural that they make a fabulous match. This bourbon tea recipe takes a unique approach to the sweetener, calling for lemon liquor rather than sugar and lemon.

  • The Bourbon Sour. It won’t come as a surprise to hear that a classic whiskey or bourbon sour recipe includes plenty of lemon juice. That said, there is sugar in the mix, too, to keep this from being out of balance.
  • Whiskey Smash. This cocktail is like a cross between a whiskey sour and a mint julep. It gets the name from the fact that you need to muddle or smash the mint with sugar and lemon.
  • Best Bourbon Old-Fashioned. The old-fashioned can be traced way back to 1806 and is one of the very first recorded definitions of the cocktail. Traditionally made with sugar, bitters, water, and a decent glug of bourbon or whiskey, it’s the kind of drink you take your time to make and then sip, rather than devour in one mouthful.
  • Classic Bourbon Manhattan Cocktail. The Manhattan is a straightforward cocktail made using three ingredients and a lot of love. It’s intense, rich, and full of bourbon flavor.
  • The Revolver Cocktail. This cocktail was created in San Francisco by a bartender with a few too many bottles of Bulleit bourbon. Since it was an unknown brand, he wanted to create something new to help it sell.
  • Mint Julep. Did you know that the mint julep is the drink of the Kentucky Derby and that over 120,000 cocktails are served over that one weekend each year?
  • Classic Hot Toddy. As the weather gets colder, the last thing I want at night is a glass full of ice. Even with warm alcohol, like bourbon, it’s just too cold to enjoy.
  • Ginger Rabbit. Other than the inclusion of ginger, I could not find out why this is called a ginger rabbit. Any ideas? This cocktail is surprisingly complex, and it’s so much more than just ginger, lemon, and bourbon.
  • Black Demure. There’s nothing demure about this bourbon cocktail. Instead, the name refers to the use of Crème de mûre, a vibrant blackberry liqueur.
  • Bourbon Sidecar. Traditional sidecars are made with Cognac and citrus. They’re sweet, and tart and are known to be a lighter version of the whiskey sour.

THE BEST COCKTAILS TO MAKE WITH BOURBON | TOP 10 RECIPES

From bespokeunit.com
  • Old Fashioned. Given the sheer popularity of the Old Fashioned (and our own fondness of the cocktail), it would have been madness to include something else in first place!
  • Mint Julep. Another classic bourbon cocktail and traditionally enjoyed at the Kentucky Derby, the Mint Julip is actually as old as the Old Fashioned! Indeed, it first appeared in a travelling book by John Davis in 1803.
  • Millionaire Cocktail. Although there are many classic cocktails that share this name, the one that interests us here is the bourbon variety that emerged during Prohibition.
  • Boulevardier. Strongly reminiscent of the classic Negroni, the Boulevardier showcases other ways to enjoy the celebrated bittersweet contrast between the Campari and vermouth.
  • Whiskey Sour. The celebrated whiskey sour has been with us since the 1870s. It’s one of the best-known cocktails to use egg white to produce a thick and foamy texture.
  • Brown Derby. Often overlooked by other cocktails, the Brown Derby was a post-Prohibition creation during the 1930s from the Vendôme Club in Los Angeles.
  • Kentucky Mule. The Kentucky Mule is the first of a few bourbon variants and riffs of famous cocktails that we’ll feature in this list. Each is well known and equally celebrated in its own way.
  • Bourbon Sazerac. Did you know that the famous cognac Sazerac cocktail was made with whiskey throughout much of its history? Indeed, French vineyards were devastated by a phylloxera outbreak during the 19th century.
  • Amaretto Sour. There are two ways to make an amaretto sour. One calls for bitters whereas the other uses bourbon. Needless to say, we’re going to be using bourbon in this one!
  • Manhattan Cocktail. An incredibly simple classic cocktail, the Manhattan is traditionally made with rye or Canadian whiskey. Like the Sazerac and cognac, the Manhattan is associated with rye due to its cultural and historical ties.
