Christmas Rice Crispy Treats Recipe image

This Christmas rice crispy treats recipe is fun to make with the kids. The holiday treats are shaped into Christmas trees and then decorated.

Provided by Stephanie Gallagher

Categories     Dessert     Snack

Time 20m

Number Of Ingredients 5

3 tablespoons unsalted butter
10 ounces marshmallows (or 4 cups miniature marshmallows)
6 cups crispy rice cereal
12 to 14 candy canes
Decorations: Red and green gel icing, M&Ms, and colored sugar

Steps:

  • Gather the ingredients.
  • Line a baking sheet with waxed paper or parchment paper.
  • Melt the butter and the marshmallows in a large saucepan over medium heat, stirring frequently, until the marshmallows melt completely.
  • Immediately stir in the crispy rice cereal. Spread the mixture onto the prepared baking sheet, so that the rice crispy treats are about 1/2- to 3/4-inch thick.
  • Spray a sharp knife generously with cooking spray. Use it to cut the rice crispy treats into large triangles.
  • Break or cut the candy canes into 3-inch pieces. Insert a candy cane into the bottom of each rice crispy treat triangle to form the trunk of the Christmas tree.
  • Let the rice crispy treats cool completely before decorating with icing, candies, and colored sugar.

CLASSIC CRISPY RICE TREATS

Classic Crispy Rice Treats image

Gooey marshmallows and crispy rice cereal come together in this recipe for the all-original favorite. We added a splash of vanilla extract and pinch of salt to give these sweet treats a palatable punch. Cut into squares, store between a few pieces of wax paper (to prevent any sticking) and enjoy for up to three days.

Categories     dessert

Time 45m

Yield Makes 24 cereal treats

Number Of Ingredients 7

Nonstick cooking spray
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
One 10-ounce bag mini marshmallows
6 cups crispy rice cereal, such as Rice Krispies
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Pinch kosher salt
Decorative toppings, optional (see Cook's Note)

Steps:

  • Line a 9-by-13-inch baking dish with aluminum foil, leaving a 2-inch overhang on each of the longer sides. Spray the foil lightly with cooking spray.
  • Melt the butter in a large pot over medium heat. Add the marshmallows and cook, stirring occasionally, until melted and smooth, about 5 minutes. Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla and salt.
  • Working quickly, add the rice cereal to the pot and stir with a rubber spatula until evenly coated. Transfer to the prepared baking dish and press into an even, compact layer. (Spray your hands with a little cooking spray to keep them from sticking when pressing the cereal mixture into the pan). Decorate with toppings if using (see Cook's Note).
  • Let sit at room temperature until firm, about 30 minutes. Cut into 24 squares. Store the cereal treats at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

A classic holiday treat - these buttery, chewy Christmas Rice Krispie Treats are made into Christmas trees and topped with festive sprinkles.

Provided by Gina Kleinworth

Categories     Dessert     Snack

Time 15m

Number Of Ingredients 6

10 oz mini marshmallows
3 tablespoons salted butter
Green food coloring
6 cups rice krispie cereal
Sprinkles of your choice
14 pretzel sticks

Steps:

  • Grease a 9x13 baking pan. Set aside.
  • Melt the marshmallows and butter in a large saucepan.
  • Remove from heat and stir several drops of green food coloring until you achieve the shade of green you'd like. (Keep in mind that the shade will look slightly lighter after adding in the rice krispie cereal).
  • Stir in the rice krispie cereal until evenly coated.
  • Spread the mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  • Add an even layer of sprinkles across the top of the rice krispies.
  • Allow to fully cool before slicing your Christmas trees. You will first make one even cut lengthwise to form two rectangles, followed by cutting out 6 even triangles from each rectangle (with 4 leftover uneven pieces from the edges total, see photo for example).
  • Carefully place a pretzel stick into the bottom of each tree and they're ready to serve, enjoy!

S'MORES CRISPY TREATS

S'mores Crispy Treats image

This smile-inducing mash-up of crispy rice treats and s'mores combines the best qualities of both popular sweets. Toasty graham crackers and roasted marshmallows balance the overall sweetness, while melted butter and gooey marshmallows soften the dry graham crackers and brittle chocolate. To make these newfangled sweets, broil the marshmallows until they just start to smoke. Brown the butter to double down on the toastiness, then toss with the marshmallows, graham cereal and chocolate chips, which melt in streaks. After pressing the mixture into a pan, broil the top to get that toasted-over-the-campfire taste.

Provided by Ali Slagle

Categories     snack, cookies and bars, dessert

Time 15m

Yield 1 (8- or 9-inch) pan (about 16 pieces)

Number Of Ingredients 6

Nonstick cooking spray (or softened butter), for greasing
1 (10- to 12-ounce/283- to 340-gram) bag marshmallows
1/2 cup/113 grams unsalted butter (1 stick)
1 (10- to 12-ounce/283- to 340-gram) box graham cracker cereal (such as Golden Grahams)
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt (such as Diamond Crystal)
1/2 cup/85 grams semisweet chocolate chips

Steps:

  • Heat the broiler to high and set the rack in the upper third of the oven. Grease a broiler-safe 8- or 9-inch square pan, then add the marshmallows. (They won't fit in an even layer, and that's OK.) Broil until deeply browned and smoking, about 1 minute. (Watch closely, as broilers vary.) Stir to expose untoasted sides and broil once again until browned and just starting to smoke. Remove from oven, leaving the broiler on.
  • In a large pot, melt the 1/2 cup butter over medium-high. Stir frequently until the hissing subsides and the butter smells toasted and is speckled brown, 3 to 5 minutes. (Keep watch: This happens quickly.) Turn off the heat, then add the marshmallows (the pan may still be hot), and stir vigorously until melted. Working quickly, add the cereal and salt and stir to combine. Add the chocolate and stir to combine.
  • Immediately scrape the mixture into the prepared pan and press firmly into an even layer. Broil until the top is golden and charred in spots, about 1 minute, watching closely. Let cool completely, then cut into squares or bars. Store, covered, at room temperature for up to 3 days.

WORLD'S BEST RICE KRISPIES® TREATS

World's Best Rice Krispies® Treats image

Literally the best Rice Krispies® treats you have ever tasted due to a secret ingredient--sweetened condensed milk. You're welcome. Leftovers (there won't be any) can be placed in an airtight container on the counter for up to 3 days.

Provided by Jessie Sheehan

Categories     Desserts     Cookies     Bar Cookie Recipes     Crispy Rice Treat Recipes

Time 1h30m

Yield 16

Number Of Ingredients 9

cooking spray
½ cup unsalted butter
½ cup sweetened condensed milk
1 (10 ounce) package miniature marshmallows
1 cup miniature marshmallows
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon fine sea salt
6 cups crispy rice cereal (such as Rice Krispies®)
1 pinch Sea Salt, gray

Steps:

  • Grease an 8x8x2-inch pan with cooking spray.
  • Melt butter in a large pot over medium heat. Add sweetened condensed milk. Stir with a rubber spatula until butter and milk are uniformly combined and small bubbles are forming in the center of the mixture, about 2 minutes. (When you first begin stirring they will look separated.) Add the bag of marshmallows and stir until melted and smooth. Add vanilla extract and salt and stir again. Remove from heat.
  • Stir rice cereal and remaining cup of marshmallows into the pot to combine. Transfer to the prepared pan and press down lightly with a sheet of plastic wrap; don't pack them down too hard or they will lose their inherently soft and gooey texture. Sprinkle with flaky sea salt.
  • Let set up on the counter for at least 1 hour. Cut into 16 squares.
