This recipe been around for a very long time. They are quick to make go even quicker from the cookie tray or jar. I'm just taking a guess at the weight of the cherry jar. I don't have one in the house.

1/3 cup butter
1/2 cup white sugar
1 unbeaten egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon grated lemon peel
2 tablespoons milk
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup raisins (seedless)
1/2 cup walnuts (chopped)
1 (4 ounce) jar maraschino cherries
1 -1 1/2 cup crushed corn flakes

Steps:

  • Cream first 2 ingredients then beat in egg.
  • Mix vanilla, lemon peel and milk into the creamed mixture.
  • Mix flour, baking powder, soda and salt and add to wet mix.
  • Stir in the raisins and walnuts.
  • Roll into balls then in crushed corn flakes.
  • Put half a cherry on top of each cookie, pushing down a bit.
  • Bake 10-15 minutes in 350 oven.

2 1/4 cups flour, sifted
1 teaspoon double-acting baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup shortening
3/4 cup corn flakes, crushed
1 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
2 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup pecans, chopped
1 cup dates, chopped or 1 cup raisins, not chopped
1/3 cup maraschino cherry, chopped
cherries, for decorating (optional)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 deg F.
  • Combine shortening and sugar, cream.
  • Add eggs, milk, and vanilla extract.
  • Sift together dry ingredients, and slowly blend in.
  • Mix well.
  • Add nuts, cherries or raisins and mix well.
  • Shape into balls using a level teaspoon of dough for each cookie.
  • Roll ball in crushed cornflakes.
  • Place on greased cookie sheet.
  • Top with ½ cherry and press the cherry down a bit.
  • Bake at 375 deg F for 10 to 12 minutes until golden brown.

3/4 cup margarine or butter, softened
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
2 Tbsp milk
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup chopped nuts
1 cup finely cut pitted dates
1/3 cup finely chopped maraschino cherries
2 2/3 cups corn flakes cereal crushed to 1 1/3 cup
15 maraschino cherries, cut into quarters

Steps:

  • Stir together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside. In large mixing bowl, beat margarine and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, beat well. Stir in milk and vanilla. Add flour mixture. Mix well. Stir in nuts, dates and chopped cherries.
  • Shape level measuring tablespoon of dough into balls. Roll in crushed corn flakes cereal. Place on greased baking sheets. Top each with cherry quarter.
  • Bake at 350 degrees F for 10 to 14 minutes or until light browned.

3/4 cup oleo
1 cup sugar
2 eggs

Steps:

  • Sift together flour, baking soda, and baking powder.

1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt (I use 2 1/4 cups of self rising flour in place of the these first four ingrediants)
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup margarine (1 1/2 sticks)
2 eggs
2 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup chopped pecans
1 cup chopped dates
1/3 cup chopped maraschino cherry
2 dozen maraschino cherries, cherry. quartered

Steps:

  • sift the first 4 ingrediants (or simply use 2 1/4 cups self rising flour).
  • Cream butter and sugar.
  • add eggs, milk and vanilla.
  • add flour.
  • add nuts dates and chopped cherries.
  • mix well (batter will be stiff).
  • spoon cookies onto buttered cookie sheet by rounded teaspoons
  • top with quartered cherries.
  • bake at 375 degrees for 12 minutes or light golden brown. makes about 4 dozen cookies.

1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2-1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup chopped dates
1/3 cup chopped maraschino cherries
1-3/4 cups finely crushed cornflakes
30 to 34 maraschino cherries, halved

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in milk and vanilla. Combine the flour, baking powder, salt and baking soda; gradually add to creamed mixture and mix well. Stir in the pecans, dates and chopped cherries. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes., Shape dough into 1-in. balls; roll in cornflakes. ¾ cup shortening
1 cup white sugar
2 eggs
2 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 ¼ cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped pecans
1 cup dates, pitted and chopped
⅓ cup maraschino cherries, chopped
2 ½ cups crushed cornflakes cereal
10 maraschino cherries, quartered

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Lightly grease baking sheets.
  • Cream the shortening with the sugar. Blend in the eggs, milk and vanilla.
  • Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Add the flour mixture to the creamed mixture and mix well. Stir in the chopped pecans, chopped dates and 1/3 cup maraschino cherries.
  • Shape teaspoonful sized chunks of dough into balls. Roll each ball in the crushed corn flakes. Place balls on the prepared baking sheets and top each cookie with 1/4 maraschino cherry.
  • Bake at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for 10 to 12 minutes. Let cool completely before storing in airtight containers.
