Time 1h30m

Yield 12 servings

Number Of Ingredients 14

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup plus 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 cups freshly squeezed orange juice, plus 2 tablespoons finely grated zest
3/4 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup confectioners' sugar
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
2 tablespoons freshly squeezed orange juice

Steps:

  • For the cake: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Mix together the softened butter and 1 tablespoon of the cocoa to make a thick paste. Use this paste to paint the inside of the Bundt pan. Set aside.
  • In an electric mixer, combine the flour, granulated sugar, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and remaining 1/2 cup cocoa and mix until blended. Add the orange juice, mayonnaise, vinegar and vanilla and mix until just combined, 1 to 2 minutes. Fold in the orange zest. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake until a toothpick inserted in the cake comes out clean, 45 minutes. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, and then turn out onto a cooling rack to cool completely.
  • For the chocolate glaze: Mix the confectioners' sugar and cocoa together. Whisk in the orange juice, 1 tablespoon at a time, until it reaches a good consistency to drizzle. Drizzle the glaze over the cake.

Bake until tester comes out clean and center springs back when lightly touched. Cool in pans for 20 minutes.
  • To assemble: Layer cake as follows: 1 layer chocolate cake, chocolate ganache, 1 layer orange cake, chocolate ganache, 1 layer chocolate cake. Frost as desired.

CHOCOLATE ORANGE SOAP CAKES

Chocolate Orange SOAP cakes image

A nice gift to your chocoholic friends, very thoughtful because they won't gain an ounce! Vary the scent by using peppermint essential oil or coconut fragrance oil instead of the orange.

Provided by PetsRus

Categories     Bath/Beauty

Time 20m

Yield 4-6 soaps

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 bars unperfumed cream bath soap (you will need approx 8 oz.)
1 tablespoon dark organic cocoa powder
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
5 teaspoons hazelnut oil or 5 teaspoons almond extract
40 drops orange essential oils, approx
5 tablespoons mineral water or 5 tablespoons bottled water
paper baking cup

Steps:

  • Using your food processor, grate the soap bars, if you want a finer texture you will have to tip out the grated soap into a bowl and put the blade into the processor, put the soap back in the processor, and grind the soap.
  • Put the soap into a glass mixing bowl and add the chocolate, cinnamon and oil, mix well.
  • Now add the essential oil and mix again.
  • Heat the water in the microwave for 40 seconds on high, add this to the soap and mix with a fork or spoon, then knead with your hands until you have a pliable dough.
  • Divide this mixture in 4 or 6 portions, roll them into a ball, and then flatten the bottom slightly, holding the ball in the palm of your hand and pushing it down gently on a flat surface, Put them on a piece of baking paper, they will need to dry for a few days, at least 2 to 3 days, in a warm airy space.
  • When ready put them in a muffin cup, dust with cacao powder or baking soda if you want, wrap the soap in clear plastic wrap.
  • Happy giving!

CHOCOLATE ORANGE MARBLE CAKE

Chocolate orange marble cake image

For a deliciously nostalgic cake, combine a classic flavour combination of orange and chocolate in this retro two-tone bake

Provided by Caroline Hire - Food writer

Categories     Dessert

Time 1h10m

Yield Cuts into 10 slices

Number Of Ingredients 9

225g very soft butter, plus extra for greasing
225g caster sugar
225g self-raising flour
4 large eggs, beaten
2 tbsp milk
3 tbsp cocoa powder, sifted
1 large orange, zest and 1 tbsp orange juice
a few drops orange food colouring (optional)
50g orange chocolate (we used Green & Black's Maya Gold), broken into pieces

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 180C/fan 160C/gas 4. Grease and line the base of a loaf tin (8 x 21cm/ 2lb) with baking parchment. Beat the butter, sugar, eggs and flour together in a large bowl with an electric whisk or in a food processor until lump free.
  • Split the mixture into two bowls, beat the milk, followed by the cocoa powder into one. Beat the orange juice, zest and orange food colouring, if using, into the other.
  • Spoon alternate dollops of the mixture into the cake tin, then use a skewer to create a marble pattern by dragging it through the mixture in swirls. Make sure you don't overmix or you won't see the pattern. Smooth the surface if necessary.
  • Bake the cake for 45 - 55 mins until golden and risen, and a skewer poked in comes out clean.
  • Leave the cake in the tin to cool, then turn out. Melt the chocolate in a bowl over barely simmering water or gently in the microwave. Use a spoon to drizzle the chocolate over the cake.
