I was looking for something different to do with broccoli, and I found this quick and easy recipe from 30 Minute Meals. I don't own "grill seasoning blend" so I used a mix of salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, thyme and rosemary.

1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
6 garlic cloves, finely chopped
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 tablespoon steak seasoning (Montreal)
1 head broccoli, cut into spears

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 425°F.
  • Place olive oil, garlic and spices in a large bowl and whisk until blended.
  • Add broccoli spears, and toss to coat evenly.
  • Place broccoli onto a large roasting sheet and roast in oven until broccoli is crisp and brown on the ends, and stalks are tender (about 17-20 minutes).

1/4 cup sliced almonds
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
2 cloves garlic, roughly chopped
1 chipotle en adobo, chopped (with or without seeds)
1 lime zested and juiced (1 tablespoon)
1 bunch broccoli, stems peeled and quartered from top of florets through to bottom of stem (about 1 1/2 pounds)
2 tablespoons olive oil
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.
  • Put the almonds, butter, garlic, chipotle, zest, and juice in a mini chopper and pulse to combine. Transfer to a large bowl and set aside.
  • Scatter the broccoli in a single layer on a sheet pan, toss in the oil and season with salt and pepper. Roast until florets begin to brown but are still crisp, about 15 minutes. Stir into the bowl with the butter mixture until butter melts to completely coat the broccoli. Place back on the sheet pan and bake until tender and beginning to brown on top, about 10 minutes more. Serve.

5 to 6 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 tablespoon grill seasoning blend (recommended:Montreal Steak Seasoning by McCormick Grill Mates)
1 large head broccoli, cut into thin, long spears

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.
  • Place extra-virgin olive oil, garlic, chili powder and grill seasoning in the bottom of a large bowl and add the broccoli spears. Toss to coat broccoli evenly then transfer to a large nonstick baking sheet. Roast the broccoli until ends are crisp and brown and stalks are tender, 17 to 20 minutes.

This is a recipe of one of my friends. It was modified from a recipe with Kai-lan (Chinese broccoli) that her mom made back at home in China. She used Western broccoli because Kai-lan was usually pretty expensive where we were living. The measurements are estimates as she would do it by the look of it.

500 g broccoli (about one large head, chopped into bite sized florets, chop off the biggest ends)
1 long red chili pepper, chopped
1 garlic clove (finely minced or pressed)
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
2 tablespoons dark soy sauce (important because it is sweeter, which you need with the less sweet Western broccoli, if you don't h)

Steps:

  • Boil water for steamer.
  • Put broccoli in steamer for 4 minutes until slightly soften.
  • Heat oil in pan on medium heat and fry chili and garlic for a minute.
  • Turn up heat to high, add broccoli and stir occasionally for a minute.
  • Add soy sauce, stir, cover and cook for a minute.

  • Bring a large pan of salted water to the boil. Add the stalks and cook for 2 mins, then add the florets and cook for 2 mins more.
  • Gently heat the garlic and oil together until the garlic just starts to sizzle and brown, then remove from the heat and add the chilli. Drain the broccoli really well and toss in the garlic oil to serve.
